Looking into a Reiki Meta-Analysis (Clinical Study)

A few days ago, I came across a Reiki meta-analysis that was published last year. A meta analysis is a very large study that compiles other studies, in this case randomized controlled trials, and aggregates all of their data. As I have mentioned before, one of the challenging things about holistic studies, and clinical studies in general, is making sure that they accurately measure what they intend to measure. Note: I may come back to this in the future to keep refining information and thoughts, and to simplify it.  In the meantime, my first impressions :  Effects of Reiki therapy on quality of life: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.   Syst Rev. 2025 Mar 27;14(1):72.    The participants in these studies were cancer patients, surgical patients and people with chronic issues (including high stress) who were not hospitalized. There weren't enough people in those study groups to generate reliable statistics for cancer vs surgery, but when all of them...

Remote Viewing and Clairvoyance

I recently finished a six-month class on Internal Family Systems Psychology , which looks at different parts of you and how they interact. I have two polarized parts - one is intuitive, the other wants to be rational and make sense of things, but more than that, that part of me wants to explain away intuition in logical and scientific ways.  In some way, I started this blog to document my experiences after I came across my former psychic school in 2010. If you check out the Rabbit Hole tab you'll find blog entries for that crazy fun journey.  There have been a few instances that I didn't write about, and that I don't know how to explain but that still boggled my mind. For example, in 2013, I signed up for a Remote Viewing class - where you use intuition to look at a target, and then verify what you saw. Our teacher gave us lots of different exercises.  The Time I Half-Failed Remote Viewing One day she had us sit in pairs, with your partner sitting in front of you with t...

Myth & Metric: Can we test Astrology???

I love astrology, and work with it for the metaphorical and self-actualization side that comes from integrating the Zodiac signs.  But I’ve had  planetary transits that boggle my mind, essentially when a planet’s current movements connect with a point in your natal chart. I have a hypothesis that I would like to test. I might try to organize a study that tests specific theories about natal astrology  πŸ’« Right now, I want to see what makes transits affect us more or less predictably, if at all, and that is what I would like to test.   πŸ‘‰πŸ» From a metaphorical, user-interface point of view , I see a ton of value in working with astrology but also think it's OK if it's mystical/myth based. I don't have a mode of action for astrology, but hope to test it anyway. In the meantime I'm going back to some of my math, stats and science friends for advice. If I am honest, thinking about necessary data inputs to make it verifiable and how to filter out confirmat...

Does sharing have to be selfless or painful?

One of the things that I have had to let go of is the idea that if we help someone, it has to be 100% altruistic - in order for the action to be good. I don’t know if this is an idea that I adopted in childhood seeing others hold up selflessness as good - “give till it hurts” etc. The world would be a much better place if we knew that it is always in our benefit to help others. We always get something in return, directly or indirectly πŸ’› 🫢🏻 Research shows that kindness makes for a much healthier society. I read a book last year called Shadow, Self & Spirit on transpersonal (or collective) psychology. There was a chapter on the psychology of evil and violence. People are less likely to harm others if they experience some form of compassion in their lives, or if they believe that someone cares about them - even if it’s a public figure, a politician, a celeb, or a deity like Quan Yin. Or better yet, family members, friends, and strangers. Random acts...
