I love astrology, and work with it for the metaphorical and self-actualization side that comes from integrating the Zodiac signs. But I’ve had planetary transits that boggle my mind, essentially when a planet’s current movements connect with a point in your natal chart. I have a hypothesis that I would like to test. I might try to organize a study that tests specific theories about natal astrology 💫
Right now, I want to see what makes transits affect us more or less predictably, if at all, and that is what I would like to test.
👉🏻 From a metaphorical, user-interface point of view, I see a ton of value in working with astrology but also think it's OK if it's mystical/myth based. I don't have a mode of action for astrology, but hope to test it anyway.
In the meantime I'm going back to some of my math, stats and science friends for advice. If I am honest, thinking about necessary data inputs to make it verifiable and how to filter out confirmation bias - it's a lot. For example, would the event have to relate to the pizza slice it hits? It would be qualitative - I don’t think I will have the volume for a quant. I am not feeling the workload for a huge study, but it would be interesting. Right now this is an intention. Stay tuned!
I have thoughts on how to blind the experiment, to filter out at least the participant's confirmation bias - my thought is to give people say 6 dates in their past, half with a planetary transit, half without, and to ask them when they had high stress events, if any at all. Without them knowing which is which or which planet is tested for. Ideally the people running the study wouldn't know either. But as a solo-blogger, I am not looking to take on a super robust study. In my old day jobs, there were formal research teams.
Also, the events would have to be memorable enough that people would immediately remember what happened to them in a six-month window, 15 years ago. Or that they can verify the dates, as is the case with the example below. I looked at Uranus crossing mercury, and without thinking about it too much, the work project below came to mind. It was a high impact event where I often thought, if this works out it will be amazing. If not, a career limiting move? I've had a lot of high stress events at work, but this is the only one that I never want to actually talk about because the pain was not fun.
How does this look in real life?
I have documented a few transits on my blog - you’ll find them below. There was also a Uranus transit to my 10th House in 2006, the part of the chart that relates to career and public image. Uranus is the planet of disruption. It coincided with a very hectic time at work, and the rapid changes lined up with me moving into higher visibility projects with film and sports licenses 🏈 It happened when Uranus passed my Mercury and my Lunar Eclipse, at 10’43 and 13’13 degrees of Pisces. I did well in spite of the chaos, and it ended up helping my career lol.
I wish I had my old work emails, but I have the movie release date in June 2006. The work chaos led up to that. We signed a major movie, at the last minute - a really really really short turn around. The campaign won a prize for best new client/partner with the studio in Mexico 🇲🇽 I didn't go the awards ceremony and one of my colleagues accepted on my behalf. Like I mention in my book, Chakra Healing & Magick, I didn’t like the spotlight back then. But I have the statue. They made me keep it lol.
My next few projects were awesome too - ending with a trip to the Super Bowl, as a partner in 2008. I had been hoping the San Diego Chargers would make it, sadly they were eliminatedin the semi finals. Wore my Charger jersey to the big game. Saw the helmet catch in person (or rather, didn’t see it), when Uranus was three degrees past my Lunar Eclipse. The lunar eclipse is things you do for fun, that make you grow. That in itself, is a once in a lifetime thing. Then I quit, and moved to London. Looked for a job and found one quickly, because of my past experience. Despite being a newcomer ⚡️
Since then, I haven't worked with film, sports or music, which does have visibility. My career went in a different direction and that type of project hasn't presented itself. Though this blog has a creative streak, and it's also public facing. If smaller.
So a transparency check: I work with astrology for self-awareness and healing not predictions. I don't have predictive client data because I don't work with it. But just looking at myself, I have noticed marked external events with specific planets (Saturn and Uranus, mainly) and with others, it goes by and nothing happens. And the moon with feelings, but it’s hard to say, how did you feel on a tuesday three years ago. So the majority of times, nothing happens. Or nothing super memorable. I have had Uranus transits to three planets and all three coincided with a phase that impacted my life. Uranus transiting Mercury less than the other two, but it was notable. I have a hypothesis as to why Uranus leaves a mark in my life, and want to see if that holds up with others. The planets that have an effect on others would change, based on their natal charts.
I can imagine the skeptical pushback that jumps in automatically about how you test it, but say, there are studies that track correlations across populations - I think astrology and energy healing are more quickly dismissed because people assume they don't work, to begin with. Or because we can't imagine how they would have an effect. I am aware of the challenges in creating a study, the goal would be to test and prove or disprove various hypotheses. For that, it wouls have to have a narrow scope to begin with, and receipts.

>> I have this thing where I stopped erasing most personal emails 20 years ago and in hindsight, it helps. At one point, I could match when I quit the corporate world to a Saturn transit that crossed my Natal Pluto twice, in 2 weeks. The problem is searching for it, so many years later. Similarly: Mapping out my career with astrology.
