Does sharing have to be selfless or painful?

One of the things that I have had to let go of is the idea that if we help someone, it has to be 100% altruistic - in order for the action to be good.

I don’t know if this is an idea that I adopted in childhood seeing others hold up selflessness as good - “give till it hurts” etc. The world would be a much better place if we knew that it is always in our benefit to help others. We always get something in return, directly or indirectly. We need to 💛

1) Research shows that kindness makes for a much healthier society. I read a book last year called Shadow, Self & Spirit on transpersonal (or collective) psychology. There was a chapter on the psychology of evil and violence. People are less likely to harm others if they experience some form of compassion in their lives, or if they believe that someone cares about them - even if it’s a public figure, a politician, a celeb, or a deity like Quan Yin. Or better yet, family members, friends, and strangers.

Random acts of kindness really do help create us happy and healthy communities

2) When we do well, we can become generators for kindness, love, peace and purpose. The intention to help is only effective if there is power behind it. If we are sacrificing our foundations, we won’t be able to do much for ourselves or for anyone else.

3) Another aha moment for me was that we all deserve to be happy, and my happiness does not take away from anyone else’s. As a matter of fact, it may even create a ripple effect. Happiness is contagious☀️

This isn’t to say that we should force positivity. Most of my work focuses on processing stuck emotions with Energy Healing so that we can connect with our inner sense of joy, peace and purpose. It’s about energy healing, the shadow and integrating.

4) Lastly, as an energy healer, it’s important to benefit when we help others. Whether it’s book royalties, or a sold out reiki class. We can all shine bright. I used to be shy about selling my books, especially the cancer book, but we all need emotional healing, and for the people around us to be OK. We all need to receive too 🌤️ This post isn’t about telling others to pitch in, but finding a way out for all of us.

I think we need a functional society, more than one where we are each  “good” or “bad”. Also if we each share in the way that is individually most effective (even if it’s easy for us) the end result would be a quicker fix.
