I’m the tiger from my nightmares πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Growing up, I had a recurring nightmare where we were having lunch at my grandmother’s house. The wall came tumbling down and a roaring tiger came out from behind. Everyone went scrambling - my aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends who were there for lunch. My 8- year old self ran and hid behind a big black piano.

It didn’t look like exactly my grandparents' house, for one, we seemed to be eating on large picnic tables. I have a clear image of one of my aunts staying put, the rest of the people were hazy. The walls were made of carton too; it didn't keep anything back.

I would stay huddled behind that piano bench, scared that the tiger would eat me. It paced back and forth but it didn’t feel angry or hungry. My inner child was terrified, as you would be if a tiger suddenly appeared in front of you and you were stuck there.

After a few weeks of this recurring dream, one night I was watching the tiger and I suddenly realized that it was a dream. The tiger wasn’t there. But unfortunately, someone at school had told us that if you died in a dream you would then die in real life. So I hid from that tiger for years....

Decoding Dreams

Fast forward about 35 years and I asked a Jungian psychologist for recommendations on child psychology books. At the time, I wanted to enroll in a counseling masters but I wasn’t sure what style to adopt.

He recommended an author called Donald Kalsched and I read a book on dreams, nightmares and what they have to tell us. The ebook was super expensive so I got the Kindle in Portuguese πŸ‡§πŸ‡·: O Mundo Interior Do Trauma (The Inner World of Trauma).

My Portuguese isn’t great but this is what I learned. The book is good, by the way:

  • According to Kalsched, the elements in the recurring dream, or nightmare in my case, are parts of your psyche that are trying to protect you, while also revealing an unconscious complex. It's all you in the dream.
  • He calls those complexes archetypal self-care systems (translating from Portuguese) and they have energy and personality in our dream state and unconscious. I imagine they influence our behavior while we are awake too, in knee-jerk reactions?
  • We can revisit the dream to decode it; as far as I can tell, this is part of counseling sessions. My approach was to send healing to that part of me with Reiki and energy healing.

Here are my insights. I read the book two years ago but I'd forgotten about it until recently, when a song made it click.

  • If you die in a dream, you don’t die in real life. Obvious, but my inner child needed to hear that. Yesterday I started there and then sent healing to the part of me that went into hiding...
  • I‘d already been connecting with Inanna, the goddess of music and war, after a meditation where Katy Perry’s Roar came up. I was trying to make friends with a tiger but my inner child was still terrified. In energy healing, that’s a fragmented part of your psyche that that has to be brought back into the fold, gently.
  • A few weeks ago I realized that the tiger represents various elements (or characters) in the family tree  - it’s a pattern and an energy that is powerful and that had the intention of standing up for us. The piano and the tiger represented two sides of the same coin, funny enough. That energy represented visibility and presence.
  • But as a child, and even more recently as an adult, big displays of emotion threw me off. That energy was terrifying to me as a kid, because of the emotion and the tiger image. My adult self isn't scared; I like the idea of a tiger spirit animal.

That tiger was always larger than life in my unconscious, but when I bring it up and integrate it into my personality, it's amazing. This is what I need to go out into the world confidently and to keep from recoiling. So yes, awesome; the antihero becomes the antidote. I'm the tiger, it's me πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Intuitively, I've felt that tiger walking with me during meditations, and leaping out of my solar plexus chakra, into the world. Here is the song that inspired this aha moment!

Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift

BTW -  I’m fluent in English, Spanish, so-so French and I speak a little Italian. I don’t speak Portuguese but it’s similar enough to work it out. Got through a third of the book, just enough to decipher this dream.

For now my energy healing books are available in English and Spanish 🦁

Reiki hugs,

Regina

Release Inner Blocks to Love, Happiness and Success

There is a song that I love by the Mexican artist, Julieta Venegas, because she walks away from something (a relationship) that she might deserve, but doesn't want.

It got me thinking about whether we get what we deserve - or what we reach for. And in many cases, what we tolerate. That's in terms of creating the life you want to experience. We need to think bigger.

It's cool to work on healing your self-worth, your boundaries, and to revisit what you think you deserve in life and relationships. Believing that you don't deserve a particular experience is a block; it takes away from your personal initiative and negotiating power. But objectively, lean into what you want to experience, regardless of whether you or others think you deserve X, Y or Z.

Today I'm asking myself what is possible, not what people think should happen. The realm of possibilities is the playing field.

On a side-note, most healers and empaths are very tuned into other people's feelings and needs. I know this applies to me. Often, I find myself wondering if a lucky break isn't more deserved or needed elsewhere. This is one of the patterns that I needed to heal and release. It clicked for me a few weeks ago, when I listened to this lovely song:

Listen to your intuition, not the voice of your ego. The ego makes us feel smaller, its sabotage keeps us from achieving our potential. The flip side would be to assume we deserve more than others (also ego).

One of my spiritual psychology teachers suggests connecting with that part of yourself, understanding how it seeks to protect you, and having an inner dialogue so that its energy can be repurposed to empower you. Release the belief that leads to self-sabotage. You can do this in any energy healing session, simply by setting the intention to fill that part of yourself with love, forgiveness and lots of healing.

I’m working on this now but I wanted to share these insights. Self-healing is a work in progress; we don’t have to be perfect and aiming for that keeps us from reaching our potential. As my middle school soccer coach used to tell us, if you wait for the perfect shot you’ll never score a goal.

Is there a Goddess of Music?

Psychic meditations are similar to dream analysis; we receive messages as images, sounds, scents and then interpret it when we are done. Sometimes the message comes to life completely in one session, but often it builds with time. In school, when we were doing psychic readings for another person we'd ask for their visuals and discuss it with them at the end.

This Fall I signed up for an online class at my former psychic school. One of my classmates now teaches there, Liesl Duffy. It has been so much fun to be back in the student seat. We have been connecting with different angels and guides every week.

The weekly theme is always a surprise. Last month, I finally understood the music that I’d hearing in my personal meditations for nearly two years. Liesl told us that we would be connecting with a goddess and the meditation consisted of a journey to a temple where we would meet her. We would find out who she was once we arrived, not before.

Everything that I describe below came to me intuitively, without any music playing in class, and little narration.

From the outset I heard songs running through my mind. It felt (more than sounded) like a feminine voice ringing out from the jungle on our way into the temple. I am from Mexico and love the Pacific coast, hence the jungle. The clairaudient meditations that I have had the past few years have been similar - a powerful female voice echoing my words - but she has what feels like limitless reach. I will often get clips of music videos that I like too.

As we continued through the meditation, we were guided to approach a temple. The teacher who facilitates the class doesn't give many details and this leaves space for our intuition to fill in the blanks. I kept hearing music, often Shakira's DARE or Katy Perry's ROAR. Every now and then I heard snippets of Rihanna's "What's my name" with a variation on the lyrics, so that it went: INANNA, WHAT'S MY NAME. Then back to Roar.

I also got the impression that we could only enter if we danced our way in. All along the path there were people dancing - almost like they were listening to a cosmic concert. I am not much a dancer (but I do love music) so I was relieved to be the only witness to this meditation lol.

When we finally made it into the temple, Liesl told us that we were there to connect with an ancient goddess known as Inanna. I had connected with her intuitively in the past, usually a passing thought, but hadn't made a link between her and the music. Inanna was a fierce Sumerian goddess, looking after love, beauty, fertility, war, justice and political power.

In the past, when I have asked why this Goddess is relevant for me, the word ASTARTE came to mind; the name used for Inanna in Phoenicia, from where the Lebanese (Maronite) side of my family hails. Not entirely sure what it means, and Inanna rings a bell more than Astarte does, but the musical vibration feels amazing. In previous posts I have written about manifesting with music; I believe this goddess amplifies the effect. We can connect with that beautiful energy.

As far as history is concerned, there was a religious following of Inanna thousands of years ago. It is likely the beliefs and practices were reflective of Sumerian culture at the time. I don't know much about it as the intuitive meditations are experiential in nature, focused on healing and personal development. The meditation was freeing, full of life and reflective of Katy Perry's Roar or Shakira's Dare. Just what I needed lol.

When class was wrapping up, Liesl mentioned Rihanna's What's My Name (Inanna) and talked about that feminine energy expressing itself through music, with confidence. This is common in psychic meditations as we are all tuned into the same current of energy.

Reiki hugs,

Regina

Manifesting Miracles With Music

Last year I gave a tarot reading where manifesting desires came up; specifically, how easy it was for the client's family to score tickets and freebies to see their favourite bands playing. When it came to other wants, like a business taking off, the process was much slower. The complexity of a business is just bigger, but why was it that anything musical took off quickly?

Why are some things easier to manifest?

The message that came through was about the bliss we feel when we are at a concert, or even listening to music that we love. It is not a stepping stone to anything else, you just want to enjoy the moment. It is not a fancy purse or a car that will do X, Y or Z for you. Not that there is anything wrong with wanting a beautiful bag or a piece of jewellery that we genuinely love ;-)

If we want to manifest other things with the same level of ease, we have to connect with the end goal and not the vehicle that may get us there. On a side note, this reminds me of my marketing days, but don’t get me started on that. (Treat yourself to things and experiences that you genuinely need and love; don’t fall for misdirection). We can manifest our Heart's desires quicker than the Ego's wants because the Ego wants security and focuses on things that appear to offer security, whereas the Heart will sense joy and taps into it naturally.

Allowing vs Forcing Manifestations

A few years ago, I signed up for a friend’s spiritual psychology class. We looked at manifesting and resonance, as well as psychology. she explained that the Universe responds to how we feel about situations. When we see something and think "oh I like that!" the Universe takes note. The more often we respond with appreciation, the clearer our signal. Every time we respond positively to an idea, we tell the Universe to bring it closer to us. Until poof!!! It comes about in the best way. I've had a few gifts come along this way…

To recap, the key is to respond with a joyful "I love that!" when we come across anything that we'd like to have in our lives. Whether it is a new purse, a new relationship, a promotion at work, a solid group of friends or even a house on a specific street. This is how I found my apartment in Notting Hill years ago - felt it in my Heart Chakra and I wound up on the most beautiful street.

Why Envy Has The Opposite Effect

If instead, we respond with envy to the world around us, that unhappy and slightly bitter feeling sends mixed signals to the Universe. The Universe isn't a psychologist who thinks "she responds with irritation but deep down, wants it, so I'll give it to her anyway." Instead, the Universe registers envy as an unhappy feeling that arises in response to X, Y or Z. To help us, it pushes the object away from us so that we can be at peace. Not helpful at all is it???

All emotions are valid, but some lead to self sabotage. Envy is a tricky one because it shows us what we think we can’t have (in some cases, it might be true). It also repels the object of our desires. The Universe can move us into a position where we can satisfy our needs and wants for growth, love and abundance - but we have to give it time and space to do so, on its terms. That might mean getting something that looks different, but feels right. Working through envy is key from a soul growth point of view. More on that in the future, but it’s a gateway to your soul’s purpose and uniqueness.

The trick is to heal the source of envy, knowing that we too can shine; all the while feeling joy for others. The more we celebrate others, the better off we are.

Some Musical Inspiration!

My book, Chakra Healing & Magick, looks at tools designed to create a life of love, joy and power. Whenever I sit down to visualize an intended future I will listen to my favorite songs to feel that joy, asking for This or Something Better for my Highest Good, a manifesting phrase from Camila's class. We can also sing; the intention is for your voice to send that vibe out to the world.

With this in mind, here is a link to a live performance by Coldplay. It also brings in a bit of color vibration (yellow) for the Solar Plexus Chakra, the chakra for joy, confidence and personal power =)

One Last Healing Tip!

There are many ways to heal ourselves. I find that the changes we seek come about quicker when we combine energy healing with music. Listen to songs that match your mood - whatever needs healing. My books will get you started. Chakra Healing & Magick includes the healing tools that I use every day. Music and magic in chapter 3.

The secret ingredient: live recordings amplify the effect with the audience's energy. If you speak Spanish, another favorite! Tap into that sense of joy. Their Super Bowl performance, also a fave - with appearances by Beyoncé & Bruno 🍫

Follow the links below for Chakra Healing & Magick! The book goes through the basics of energy healing and intuition, aiming to empower our lives by releasing doubt and limiting beliefs 🌺 Happy manifesting!

The 12 Zodiac Signs 🌀️

Astrology is a fascinating subject. One of the easiest places to start is with the Elements in your chart: how much Fire, Water, Earth and Air do you have? The Elements shape your personality.

In my case, most of my planets are in Earth and Air signs which makes me very practical, analytical and logical (believe it or not!) though my saving grace is Mercury in Pisces, putting the planet of communication, ideas and writing in a very intuitive and creative sign that can, at times, be easily distracted by the watery world of the fish.

It is a good thing I have a ton of planets in the Earth sign of Virgo, grounding that spacey energy. Nevertheless I'm still lopsided when it comes to the Elements so I have taken to wearing crystals that balance me out by adding Fire and Water to my energy field. My latest discovery have been red coral mala beads, with both fire and water. We can integrate what is missing.

Keep reading for an overview of the Zodiac. And check out the Astrology Tab for an intro to natal astrology readings.

The Fire Signs

One of the things I love about astrology is how it overlaps with Tarot (another love of mine). In the cards, the suit of Fire represents inspiration, passion, drive and the impetus to pursue our goals and dreams. Self-starters have a healthy dose of fire in their energy. You could say it's representative of the Sacral Chakra as it reflects our spiritual & physical desires, and how we go about satisfying them.
Aries. Arguably the most impatient and driven sign of the zodiac. Aries knows what it wants as soon as it sees it, and it wants it yesterday. If obstacles get in the way however, Aries energy loses interest (or confidence) and goes elsewhere. The first sign in the Zodiac, Aries is good at kicking off new projects. Ruled by Mars, the planet of action and assertion, Aries gets things going.
Leo. This one makes me think of Mustafa from the Lion King: majestic, royal, a heart of gold though sometimes a bit imposing like any king. Leos take pride in family, home and their place at the heart of it. Comfortable in the limelight, a healthy dose of Leo energy can result confident leadership skills. Ruled by the Sun, Leo tells us where we can shine in our lives - enjoying it!

Sagittarius. Represented by the Archer, our dear Sagg's are always pursuing new horizons, whether geographical or philosophical. A very intuitive sign, they follow their passions, their flashes of inspiration and come home with amazing stories and insights that will ultimately benefit their community. Ruled by Jupiter, the planet of good fortune and expansion, Sagg is a lucky adventurer.

Let's Get this Started (BEP)

The Water Signs

Water is all about feelings, emotion and intuition. It's feminine energy is perhaps best expressed by one of my favourite songs Las de La Intuition - by Shakira =)

It is not a logical element, but still one that can be as accurate as math or statistics, even if our water signs might not be able to tell you how they arrived at their conclusions. They just know, processing information subconsciously. Being a very sensitive element, water signs are also likely to be empaths and the feelings they sense in others can lead to confusion.
Cancer. Ruled by the Moon, Cancerian energy is intuitive, a bit elusive, a gifted homemaker and nurturing. A strong boundary is also drawn around the family, whether it be a biological family or a broader group. The Crab puts up defenses when it feels threatened, retreating into its shell. Hard shell, tender on the inside and sometimes moody.
Scorpio. Ruled by Pluto, the planet of power, creation, death and transformation, Scorpio may be the most powerful, loving and intimidating sign in the Zodiac. It's impossible to fool a Scorpio, and don't even think about betraying them because the Scorpion's tail can be lethal. That said, Scorpio heals by shining a light on the truth and by embracing our shadow side fully. For this reason, it may also be the most accepting, standing by us in our discomfort.
Pisces. We've finally touched on the very last sign in the Zodiac: the Fish. Highly intuitive, Pisces is ruled by Neptune, the planet of Cosmic Awareness, sacrifice and oneness. The lack of boundaries experienced by Pisceans means they carry the emotional weight of the world on their shoulders, often mistaking other people's problems for their own. Pisces can play the role of the victim, martyr or the rescuer. Of all the signs, Pisces benefits most from grounding and shielding their energy.
Las de La Intuition - Shakira

The Air Signs

Air is about thoughts, speech, communication and ultimately, how much time we spend analysing and discussing our options. Too much air can bog us down if we overthink things (Libra, I'm looking at you) though it can also keep us from exploring the depths of life if we are too easily distracted (Gemini). Obviously, as the visionary in the Zodiac, Aquarius can do no wrong (as if!).

Libra. Most of us count at least one Libra amongst our friends. A very tactful and fair sign, Libra looks after other people's interests as much as their own. It's also ruled by Venus, the planet of love, friendship and social functions. This can make Libra very popular, they cherish relationships, but weighing pros and cons for all involved can be a show stopper, as we can't make everyone happy.
Aquarius. Ruled by Uranus, the planet of disruption, equality and technology, Aquarius loves the information age. Often described a eccentric thinkers with wacky ideas, Aquarius can be tempted to rebel just for the sake of it. The challenge can be to work with others on gradual & profound changes.
Gemini. Ruled by Mercury, Gemini is a quick and versatile thinker. Rooted in the element of air, the planet of communication moves as fast as a pinball machine. Gemini loves learning and can go back and forth between several topics. Its a dynamic sign that can come across as being scattered at times.

The Earth Signs

The qualities of Earth are fairly obvious; it grounds us in the physical and material world, helping us become more conscious of our surroundings, our physical health as well as the work ethic and effort that can help us flourish on the earthly plane. There are three earth signs, each ruled by a particular planet.

Capricorn. This is the work horse in the Zodiac. If Capricorn was voted most likely to succeed in school, it was because of his (or her) unwavering effort rather than the "charisma" of Leo. Capricorn finds a sense of security in material and economic success, giving them the determination to climb a mountain no matter how long and arduous the terrain be. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the planet of reality checks, boundaries, limitation and earned success.
Taurus. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty and friendship, Taurus is represented by the Hierophant in tarot. The mythical custodian of our traditions, belief systems and social structures. Taurus energy is slow and steady, with a deep appreciation of comfort, but also a very strong and practical work ethic.
Virgo. Meticulous, perfectionist, helpful, and friendly are just a few words that we can use to describe the qualities of Virgo. Ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, Virgo is good with with concepts, choosing their words carefully and with great attention to detail. Virgo energy is also health conscious, looking at nutrition, exercise, and how specific lifestyle changes lead to good health.

One Last Note On Elements

It is worth mentioning that we have all 12 Zodiac signs in our natal charts, even if we don't have many planets in a specific Element. You can run your birth chart at www.astro.com to find out what Elements are strongest in your chart. So for example, I have most of my planets and luminaries in Earth and Air, with hardly any in Fire or Water.  Though I am pretty intuitive, possibly because Moon & Pluto are squaring off in my natal astrology chart. With this in mind, I have been working with crystals to balance out my personal energy.

And one for the road ...
