Retrogrades: Your Astrological Survival Guide

We have all heard phrases like Aries energy is full of spirit but sometimes impatient, or Capricorn is reliable but overly concerned with material gain. Each of the Zodiac signs has a spectrum of traits that range from highly functional benefits, to quirks that can easily become stumbling blocks (or let's face it, pitfalls). While we should never stereotype, this is what it means to be human. Developing self-awareness makes a huge difference. From this perspective, an astrology chart is a roadmap. It tells you a lot about yourself.  Astrology spells out the limiting behaviors that are common in each sign. By combining this with self awareness and energy healing, we can retrain our instincts so they are no longer based on fear or false beliefs. For example, an Aries female can stop herself if her impatience starts to get the better of her. Or a Virgo man can see his attention to detail devolving into obsessive or compulsive behavior. Rather than say “I was built this” way, we make a...

The Indian & Tibetan River of Buddhism (Class Review)

I’m enrolled in an online class at Columbia University called The Indian & Tibetan River of Buddhism . Signed up when quarantine began and I am glad I did.  The class is taught by Dr Robert Thurman - one of the founders of Tibet House in NYC. We are only on the second week, but I wanted to share it now as you can still  sign up .  We’ve covered the history of Buddhism: what society, culture and government were like 2600 years ago and why the Buddha's approach to happiness, compassion and freedom was appealing to so many people, especially freedom from the hierarchy of the caste systems. It also feels like a  lot of the concepts are still relevant today, for example, the study of the nature of reality and how we can find happiness.   The class looks at the concepts of Dharma (as far as I can tell, a search for truth), the Eightfold Path and how these lay the groundwork for enlightenment through meditation. To become enlightened is to have y...

Theta Healing Basic DNA Course (Review)

It has been a while since I was super excited about a healing class. The last time I signed up for something totally new was Tibetan Reiki in 2012. There are different kinds of energy healing and generally, I’d say it’s a good idea to pick one and run with it until you understand its applications, before moving onto something else (assuming it suits you).  The past seven years I’ve been focusing on Energy Healing, as taught at the School of Intuition & Healing in London, and on Usui Tibetan Reiki. The two are similar, although Reiki courses tend to be lighter in terms of theory, guidelines and practice. Already having the Energy Healing qualification helped loads. Though Reiki is enough.  Whenever I mention energy healing, people ask me if it is like X, Y or Z that they are familiar with - most often Reiki or Qigong. After moving to Mexico, I started getting lots of questions about Vianna Stibal's Theta Healing classes and I even met a fe...

A Practical Guide to Runes, by Lisa Peschel (Book Review)

Four years ago I bought a box of runes at the British Museum in London, and believe it not, I hadn't  used them at all. Not sure why I kept them around all this time, maybe it's because they felt magical and I knew that someday I'd be able to connect with that magical energy.  When I quit my job three years ago my colleagues gave me an Amazon gift certificate, and one of my pressies was a book by Lisa Peschel, called   A Practical Guide to Runes . Again, I had it in my closet but didn't read it, until last week. WOW. The book starts out by telling us how Nordic Runes were used in ancient times, doubling up as an alphabet and an oracle system. Villagers used runes to ask their gods for guidance on practical matters, and they also used the runes to channel their desired intent into the world with a bit of ritual magic. Peschel's book talks us through all of these steps, including how to make your own runes so that unlike me, you don't need to buy them in a mus...
