Healing, Halloween and Family Constellations

Happy Halloween Everyone!

As you know I moved back to Mexico two years ago. Here we celebrate Day of the Dead on November 1st; a night when we celebrate and remember the dearly departed family members. As an energy healer, I have learned that honoring, blessing and working through issues in our family line is very important. My blog post today is fit for Dia de los Muertos.

A few weeks ago I stood in as an extra at a healing session that looks like theatre work, but turned out to be a form of mediumship or channeling - you may have heard of the system known as family constellations. It was a weird experience and personally, I am not sure that I enjoy the process although I certainly see the benefit for the person receiving the healing.

There are situations where healing has to go beyond the person receiving the healing as an individual, so that we can heal an issue that "runs in the family" whether the symptom being healed is a physical illness that appears to be hereditary, or behavioural patterns, belief systems and even emotional wounds that handicap us. An example might be the pain that is handed down through the family when one of the ancestors (say a great-grandparent) was an alcoholic, and how subsequent family members act out that same pattern until the trait is healed and released.

There are different techniques for these healing and "constellations" are one of them - a technique that was new to me (more on that in a second).

At the School of Intuition & Healing we learned to carry out ancestral healing sessions where the Healer calls on the spirits of the parents, grandparents and great grandparents on either side, and sends healing to the one who requests it or who needs it most - while also having a dialogue with them on a telepathic level so that we can gain clarity on the issue at hand. Once that issue has been addressed, the healing light flows down from that ancestor to all of his descendants, including the Healee, essentially clearing and healing the issue so that it is no longer replicated down the line.

With family constellations, a similar process unfolds albeit in a theatrical way. Volunteers are brought in to represent the different people involved in the conflict or issue, as well as energies, such as "Femininity" or "Abundance" or "Empowerment." If for example, the client feels that her relationship with her husband, her father and other significant men in her life block her from feeling "empowered" then a volunteer might represent "male energy" as a whole as well as specific people standing in for the different family members.

The volunteers feel the energy of the person being represented and share it with the person receiving the healing. The goal is to eventually realise that the people we share our lives with do the best they can, with the tools and insecurities that they are given so that we can eventually accept and forgive them for their mistakes - healing through that forgiveness.

I was called on to stand in for a grandparent and was blown away by how the grandparent's energy blended with mine so that all I felt was love for the client, despite the fact that the client in question felt "judgement" where there was none. It showed us how we place filters on our relationships and the way that we experience people may have more to do with us than with them. It took a lot of role playing, dialogue and many many attempts at communicating the love from the grandparent before they finally come to an understanding.

On my side it felt like "mediumship theatre" and while the session was very helpful for the person who received it, I can't say that I enjoyed the process because mediumship (channeling departed loved ones) has never been one of my hobbies; I'm not a fan of that energy. Even so,  the healing modality appears to work well and I would recommend it if you are looking to heal dynamics in the family, especially with people who are no longer there or can't be dialogued with (if they're not talking, etc).

I would love to hear from you if you have tried constellation work - did you enjoy the process and was it beneficial for you?  Would you recommend it? Please comment below! Here is a snapshot from Dia de los Muertos, in 2014.

Also, if you're wondering, the man in the painting is the Lebanese saint known as San Charbel. He was a mystic and I believe also a healer. In Mexico, San Charbel is hugely popular for miracles of healing, and just miracles in general. If you would like to learn more about him, read: Miracles, Ribbons and San Charbel

Healing Ancestral Lines with Mediumship and Reiki

A couple weeks ago I was feeling fearful about my future. The thing with fear is it is completely irrational. Some risks are meant to give us the jitters but if it's calculated risk, I think you make the decision and go for it. Don't look back. That is what I did when I decided to go part-time in September and then to leave my job at the end of January.

I also had a specific plan and it is on track:
  • Publish my book on Self-Healing and Cancer. The writing, revising and editing are done! The cover design and pictures are in process. Next week I'll start on the layout design and then I am sending it off to Amazon to Kindle publish. =)
  • I am going home to Mexico for 2 months in the summer to start writing book #2 and to promote this first one, which should help because I won't have to pay rent for a couple months.
  • In the meantime I have one-off Reiki Sessions, Angel Readings and my savings to pay the bills. In August I might take a part-time job or a healing job and I feel good about that.
My mind tells me everything is going well and I kept trying to visualize success and go for it. Why was I feeling this irrational fear? I made a resolution to meditate on it and heal any traces of fear and worry from my system (and my solar plexus). The question was: where is that fear coming from? My dad kept popping into my mind but I could not figure out what that meant. I thought it might have something to do with wanting to live up to his expectations but that was not it. I was puzzled.

As luck would have it I went for a jog in the park and found myself outside a bookstore. On a whim I went in and found a lovely deck of cards: Doreen Virtue's Angel Therapy Deck. It was exactly what I needed. I sat in the park and pulled two angel cards:

  • Vacuum Away Your Fears: Essentially this card suggested that I ask Archangel Michael to vacuum any fears from my solar plexus and take them away so that I wouldn't feel anxious. Archangel Michael could then step in to heal the solar plexus, make it strong again and help me feel confident. I also like to give myself Reiki when I ask for healing. Gives it a boost!
  • Parents:  Ahh, this card pointed back to my dad. The picture shows a man and woman sitting on a log, playing the guitar and singing. My eyes kept going to the "dad" in the picture and I felt like my dad (who passed away 10 yrs ago) was trying to send me a message. I asked my angels to tell me what this card meant and what I got was a visual of my dad being very fearful and anxious about taking financial risks. Hmmm, it rang a bell.

I picked up the booklet and read the description for this card. One of the things it mentioned is how children can sometimes absorb their parents beliefs, feelings and attitudes. As a highly sensitive kid I learned to be anxious and risk-averse from my dad. He was not completely risk averse but I do think worrying about that things might go wrong undermined his willingness to take risks. I think he was coming to me now because he wanted to let me know that I was feeling his fears, not mine. Funny thing is I am not risk averse: I go for it, but I'm a nervous wreck LOL. But then it works out in the end.

It was time to let go of those fears. This made tons of sense to me. The few months I always pulled the same card in the Angel Tarot when I asked about this new adventure: The Knight of Fire. The card shows a Knight on horseback, the horse looks like it's taking a few steps back and the knight pushes it forward. I take the horse to be the nervousness we feel when we're taking risks. The knight is our resolution to persevere and win. It tells me it's time to tame my subconscious and lead with confidence. That was easier to do once I was able to pinpoint the source of my fears and heal them.

A Little Ancestral Clearing ...

What a great week! I had two great readings and a distant healing all the way from Mexico! I actually feel much better because of it, and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The 1st reading was about my job and how I should just chill out and enjoy it. What I'm going through now is a stepping stone that will help me reach my goals in the next couple years.

"Enjoy it!"

The second reading actually came with the distant healing, and it was about family, career, relationships and a bit of ancestral issues that needed clearing and healing. My mom went to see a healer in Mexico who worked on clearing my family's spiritual DNA, and then cleared me through my mom. Based on what my mom told me after the session, the healer worked on clearing psychological and emotional traits that can be passed down through the generations. For example, someone might have a stubborn streak running through the family.  There can also be positive streaks like optimism, joy. The positives you want to keep, the negatives you want to clear so that you can move upwards and onwards.

What I really like about healing is that you can take something that is pretty good to begin with and make it even better. We have no idea how great we can have it. It isn't until someone shows you what life could be like if only you worked on your ego, etc, that you start to register the possibilities. The other great thing about healing (as if there were only two great things about healing!) is that the healer can clear blocks that the client isn't aware of. If you've been wearing blinders all your life, you wouldn't realise it until someone takes them off. The healer may also be able to pinpoint something that the client is already working on, and facilitate the process by shifting stuck energy. I think this is what the distant healing session has done for me. Will let you know when I start seeing major breakthroughs in my life.  =)

How Do They See Us from the Other Side?

This is something I've wondered on more than one occasion: will family members be able to witness our accomplishments after they've passed on? And what about our Spirit Guides and Angels, how much of our daily lives are they privy to? Will they notice when we've failed a math test, or if we ran a red light?

I can't pretend to know the answer to this one, but I just read a quote that inspired me. Its from the book Ponder on This, a compilation of thoughts from one woman's spirit guide (a little too science-fiction for me, but still a good read). At one point he tells her: "I have watched you succeed and I have seen you fail, this I do through the pulsation of your light not in watching the detail of your daily living."

The thought of humans as light beings is comforting, what a shame that we haven't learned to see each other this way. I imagine swarms of light all over the planet, with dark patches in areas of intense pain and conflict. But there are beacons of light even in the darkest areas, and we each have what it takes to turn it on. The book went on to describe the process and to my surprise it wasn't through meditation, but through "high thinking, right living and loving activity. "

Our thoughts and actions can raise our vibration and make us better, brighter beings - the idea is so simple and so true. The past few months I've been focusing too much on meditation, as the year draws to a close it is time to think of habits to foster in the New Year. Is it cheesy to think that we can make the world a brighter place? In my mind I see them looking down at us from above, and marvelling at the sphere of light.
