The Language of the Pendulum

Over the past few years I have tried different tools to connect with my Higher Self. Some have been more trustworthy than others, including runes, angel cards, automatic writing and crystal pendulums.
The latter can be least reliable; if you're not careful the pendulum will tell you what you want to hear.  I like to write questions on pieces of paper and fold them up in a pile before I start. It's important to keep a clear mind when you're writing the questions down, and when you're actually using the pendulum. The best approach is curiosity and neutral emotions.

Next comes grounding, attuning and connecting to be sure I tune into high vibrational energies. The pendulum can be guileful, if you are not clear and centred  you will tune into your emotions instead of receiving accurate messages. When I'm ready, I go one by one and ask the pendulum to show me the answer. This approach yields three sets of answers:

  • YES means whatever I'm asking about is aligned with my highest good. I will sometimes ask if a particular outcome is possible or probable and by what percentage.
  • NO usually means what I'm asking about wouldn't be aligned with my highest good, it's not an option. Sometimes it also means that I shouldn't waste my time and energy on that.
  • SILLY QUESTION comes up when the pendulum doesn't know the answer or when it can't be answered as it's been phrased (is it a yes/no question?). This doesn't come up as often.

It can also be useful to include "Am I Asking the Right Question in the pile, as we have a tendency to get bogged down in details that aren't part of the big picture. If you get a NO to that question then the issues you're concerned about are not the ones that should be top of mind. Lately I've noticed that if you do ask a relevant question, the pendulum will  highlight it by saying YES to that and NO to everything else. This happened to me recently and I assumed that I need to put my energy and action into that scenario (do I pursue a particular path).

I like to ask the pendulum questions about what is real or possible now, rather than what will happen in the future. For example, three years ago I was looking for a new job at work and decided to inquire about potential vacancies in the wider marketing team. I ask about each brand team and when I got a YES for one brand, I asked about the individuals on that team. The pendulum told me that a particular person was leaving, and 2 days later I heard she'd quit to take a new job outside the company. She quit before I asked the pendulum, so it wasn't predicting the future. It gave me visibility of what was happening behind the scenes. This can be useful if you are trying to navigate a situation with incomplete information. The pendulum can give us direction, though fact-checking the information is a good idea. And obviously, don't stake your life on the answers.

Healing with a Pendulum

A couple weeks ago I heard one of our teachers talking about pendulums. She mentioned that they can be used to find and cut chords, and that the pendulum can also balance the chakras. The past month I have been doing a lot of self healing, and one day the pendulum conversation flashed through my mind. I have a beautiful chakra pendulum, and thought, why not use this on myself? The point is carnelian, which fits well with my sacral chakra that needed healing, and the silver chain has rainbow stones to resonate with each of the 7 chakras.

Start by Minding the GAPP:

First I Ground by visualising roots, they go out the bottoms of my feet to the center of the earth. Next I Attune by connecting to the highest source of light. I visualize a beam of light that comes down from heaven, runs through me and into the earth. This beam of light connects me to the Source, God, Spirit, etc. Next, I ask for Permission to carry out the healing. The last step is to ask for Protection, I will do this by visualizing a bigger beam of white light around me, it cuts through from floor to ceiling and extends outwards in both directions - to the center of the earth and up to the Source. Sometimes I see a ring of fire, but white light is a safe and effective bet.

When people ask me how I know what I'm connecting to, this is how I know. If I tried to use any of my psychic abilities without Mind the GAPP I might connect to something or someone that isn't really looking out for me.  It would be about as unsafe as letting a stranger hitch ride at night ...

Now Back to the Pendulum Healing!

I started out by defining a healing vocabulary for the pendulum. A balanced chakra would have a clockwise swing over it, an unbalanced chakra has a counter clockwise swing. The pendulum would continue to swing in a counter clockwise direction as long as the healing energy was being channeled, and it would change when it was done. I lay down on my yoga mat and started at the crown. Using a pendulum on yourself can be tricky, especially on the crown and brow as your perspective is inverted. It took me a while to figure out which direction it was spinning. My upper chakras were clear enough so the crown, brow, throat and heart took just a little bit of effort. It was really pretty too,  the crystals glitter in the light when they're spinning and it's beautiful to watch.

The big surprises came when I got to my sacral chakra - most of my aches and pains are in the part of my body that is governed by the sacral. I used to get PMS, lower back pain and bloating when I am stressed out, especially at that time of the month. The past couple years I have been a frequent flier in the Midol camp, so it was no surprise that the pendulum made huge circles over this chakra.

The bigger the swing, the stronger the healing. The root [base] chakra did the same thing, coincidentally one of my teachers told me that I had to work on my root. If you have any health issues, you should always focus on establishing the flow between the chakra that governs the affected organ and the root chakra.  The root links to the symptoms that manifest on a physical level, it's responsible for our etheric template. So if you need to work on your liver, one of the things you can do is to establish the flow between your root chakra and your solar plexus.  The good news is I made it through the month without taking Midol as much, only on the first day!

This nice success story has gotten me a new practice client for the Fall Term assignments!

So there is one more thing that I forgot to mention. The pendulum will also correct the flow of energy between the chakras.  At one point it would switch between a counter clockwise spin, and a vertical spin that went up and down my spinal colum. When it did this, I could feel energy swinging out in both directions - say from the sacral to the solar plexus, and then again from the sacral to the root. It was really fun to watch, because looking at what the pendulum does will give you an idea of the energy shifts in the body.  The healee will feel the tingles, and the healer can see it happen. I've practiced with the pendulum a couple times now, when it does something new I always ask what it means. The answer comes through clair-knowing or even clairaudience. This gives an understanding of what is going on, and that constant flow of information is useful.

Watching the pendulum also helps me understand my role as a channel, there is definately a higher power that is sending the energy my way. There is something about watching it swing, without any input or direction from me. It makes me feel like a fly on the wall,  someone else is healing. Don't get me wrong, all the while I am very much in the GAPP, still attuned, but my attitude is that of a student asking questions. It's an opportunity to learn. Most healing sessions come with little surprises that show me new techniques or meanings. The pendulum is a fun one to try out. It has also taught me that I need to take more time with each of the individual chakras.  If I'm doing the healing by myself,  I usually zip through them pretty quickly. When I am waiting for the pendulum to change directions I get bored and tired and want to move on, but it's really about the client and how much healing they need. The sessions haven't lasted more than 30 minutes, which is pretty decent but if I ever do this professionally I need to be able to heal for an hour. Or an hour minus 10 minutes for the basic chat.

The Early Days

If on Day 1 you'd asked me what I wanted to get out psychic school, I would have told you that I wanted to learn to hear voices so that I could talk to my spirit guides. I also had these crazy ideas about learning telepathy, astral travel and maybe predicting the future. I was pretty much interested in all those fun things we see in movies, in the back of my mind I was also hoping that telekinesis might prove to be real – and it hasn’t, if you’re wondering!

The novelty wore off and I started losing interest in quirky psychic powers that might help me win the lottery. I started asking questions about some of the tougher questions in life – the job, family, relationships, what decisions to make. It suddenly dawned on me that all of these fun psychic tools could actually help find the answers to these problems. I was still too much of a psychic rookie to see or hear my guides, so I went out and bought myself a quartz pendulum to get YES/NO answers out of my guides.

After reading an article called "How To Train Your Pendulum" and I spent the better part of an evening trying to get it to swing one way for YES and the for NO.  My efforts reminded me of the hours I spent training the family dog not to pee in the house; you have to be very patient.  I started out by asking it to show me the sign for YES. The 1st few times it danced around on the chain, bouncing in every direction. After a few tries it finally moved in a slow but deliberate circle.  I was so shocked I almost dropped it; this was the 1st time that I saw something that couldn’t be in my imagination. I managed to get through 5-6 clockwise swings before freaking out and putting the pendulum back in its pouch.

When I finally worked up the courage to take it out, I went through the signs for NO & SILLY QUESTION. I got a lot of SILLY responses the first few times I used a pendulum, I was constantly asking questions that couldn’t be answered by a YES or a NO. I also asked things that my guides couldn’t possibly know – like what were other people thinking? After a while I started noticing that I usually got the answer I was expecting, I would ask a question an automatically jump to conclusions (forcing the outcome of the swing). Looking back on it, this was pretty funny but for a few weeks my pendulum played mind games on me.

I have resorted to writing questions on Post-Its, folding them up and then randomly pulling them out of a pile to get the answers. Once I've asked all the "blind questions" I'll start with the YES pile and open those up. More often than not the order in which they're opened also tells a story, almost like a personalized tarot reading. The NO pile can be repetitive but it still helps to get confirmation. The SILLY QUESTION pile is my favorite, if the question is phrased correctly you can pretty much dismiss this question because it's not something you should be worrying about, or trying to fix.
