The Astrology of Mars: Be Your Best Self

Today I would like to talk about meditating to connect with the planets in our solar system. It is similar to connecting with Mother Earth; each of the planets and fixed stars relates to a quality that we can heal and integrate. Venus relates to frienship, love and beauty; Mercury to how we think and communicate ourselves. As the planet of War, Mars helps us deal with issues around competition, strength and confidence.

In his book, The Healing Touch, William Rand says that fear of competition creates more problems for the Reiki world than competition itself. Even if we think of ourselves as light workers, in the real world, we often act out of defensiveness or insecurity when someone moves into our sphere of influence. True for Reiki, also true for the yoga/wellness/healing worlds. If we don't acknowledge those feelings, eventually everyone loses.

The past six years I have been teaching and practicing healing in Mexico City, and while the experience has been pretty much amazing to say the least, there have been moments where feathers were ruffled and boats were rocked. I thought I had cleared most of my foibles and insecurities - even some push back and discomfort for touching on broad topics that other healers focused on. Some of it lingered; I have been thinking about the things that I might have done wrong, but also the times when I made myself a bit smaller to avoid rocking the boat...

One day I felt guided to do a healing meditation with the planet Mars, wanting to fill myself with courage, confidence and integrating the healthy aspects of the red planet; this inevitably means taking a close look at the unhealthy Martian aspects that play out in our personal lives. As always I began by grounding myself and bringing down a ray of starlight from above, before sending a beam of light from my Heart Chakra to Mars (visible in the night sky!). I asked forgiveness and healing in instances where I was not as transparent, assertive or communicative as I would have liked to be, while forgiving others for their actions too.

I was then prompted to make a list of anyone I might view as a competitor - whether it was another teacher, energy healer, author or practitioners of other healing modalities. What came to mind next was an interview where a campaigning politician was asked to name one good thing their opponent had done while in office; she replied saying "not a one". I was disappointed by that answer and while she was probably avoiding a self-defeating soundbite, we have to be capable of witnessing other people's strengths and triumphs.

At this point I went back to the list of so-called competitors and wrote at least one thing they did extremely well: Some are fab at Instagram videos, others captivate the room with their sense of humor, still others simplify complex topics making them easily digestible. I realised we each triumph in our unique way; what I wound up seeing clairvoyantly was a diamond that was full of light, with each of us on a different facet. The meditative exercise ended with me making a list of three things that I did well and how I fit into the whole.

This resonates with my experience so far: collaboration is fun and enriching when we play to each other's strengths

The energy healing was fantastic and I felt like a different person. Since then I've been connecting with Mars and with Archangel Tystiel, who I recently met in an angel meditation class at The College of Psychic Studies (led by Liesl Duffy). He is one of the archangels that relates to Mars, helping us find our footing, our courage and our gamesmanship. Archangel Chamuel is also linked with Mars - as the angel of unconditional love, Chamuel brings relief to situations where we feel like we have been in an uphill battle for months.

  1. Hey Regina, Shared with a healing friend.
Enjoyed your article. I have to mention during last Thursday I was doodling during a Healers meeting on Zoom, I drew a diamond with many facets with light streaming from above down on the diamond and facets.
