Eco Friendly Businesses

A while ago I found myself asking the question: What would I do if my books took off and I suddenly found myself making bucket loads of cash (hey! a girl can dream). What would I do with it? Aside from covering my own bills, etc?

So here it is! ... I like the idea of starting a planet friendly business. On one hand, I want to keep blogging, writing, teaching. Start an online university. I have a feeling that as time goes by I'll have lots to write about. And thanks to my marketing background, I could make that work. I would have to get over my aversion for self-promotion (igghhh).

My BIG IDEA, though, is to invest in eco friendly businesses.

I like the thought of a holding corporation where the majority stockholder is nature. Are the businesses, products and services sustainable? Will they leave the earth better off (or at least, not make it worse?). The financial bottom line matters, but not more than the environment. I could see myself owning 10% , my business partners another chunk, and the bulk of it belonging to nature.

It would be good to have a sustainability expert on-board. Not someone who is militant about saving the earth, but someone who can find a way to make it work in the short and long term. And maybe someone with financial sense to be involved in the day-to-day running of things. I have an MBA but haven't really zeroed in on finance. Maybe its time to read up on my notes from class.

Imagine what the world would be like if we all invested a bit time, energy and money into planet friendly businesses? That's what I intend for the future =)

  1. Hi Nathan! Thank you for the suggestion!

I'll look up that book =) I'd love to get more involved in green investing, down the line. Right now I think I need to learn more about sustainability so that the business ideas, etc, work. Hopefully I'll put my business/finance background to good use LOL.

On another note, I have family in Mexico who produce eco-friendly construction materials. Let me know if you'd like to learn more and I could put you in touch? =)

  2. It's nice to read about eco-friendly materials, just as long as you don't intend to transport it through half the world :P. There's a lot of eco-friendly materials in Poland: clay in the ground, stones by the river, trees in the forest and straw in the fields :D.

  3. haha funny =P

I was thinking some of their production processes could be insightful. But I guess differences in climate might mean people use different materials, etc. You don't see wood so much here because of rain and humidity (I think that is the reason). :-)
