How do Flower Essences Work?

I am halfway done with writing my next book, which sounds wonderful, unless I admit I've been stuck for the past month or so. Earlier this week I booked an appointment with my favourite flower healer. More than anything, I needed to get going again and I was hoping she could help. I've been taking a mix of flower essences since Tuesday. Yesterday I finally finished that chapter I'd been stuck on. Phew!

How do flower essences work?

The way I understand it, each flower has a vibrational pattern which can be used to soften aspects of our personality. Especially quirks that sabotage your life. Say for example, it's in your nature to underestimate yourself. You could take the Bach Flower Essence Larch and with time, your confidence would increase. It would make it easier to rise to new challenges. We can also rely on essences to help us through temporary problems. For example, Elm could help a person who is feeling overwhelmed by responsibility after a big life change.

Bach Flowers are wonderful, I also really love the Australian Bush Flower Essences and the Alaskan Essences, especially their space clearing and protection sprays. I am a self-study amateur when it comes to flower healing. I'll go to Whole Foods and read through the descriptions, picking out the essences that fit my current mental and emotional state. Over time, I have accumulated maybe 15-20 essences which I take as and when I need them. One of the essences I chose also happens to relate to my star sign.

You can also used a quartz pendulum to discover which essences you need. I do this at home with the ones I already have, lining up the bottles so that the labels face away from me. This way, I am not influenced by what I think I need. Then I glide the pendulum over the bottles and let is say YES or NO. When I did this last month, I got LARCH (underestimating myself, low confidence, thinking others are more capable) as well as ASPEN (inflexible mind, being too strict with yourself or others, narrow minded).

That odd combination fit my mental state perfectly! How could I be imposing, if I was also underestimating myself? The mental flexibility helped me open up to different ways of doing things, which I needed. If you're the type to paint yourself into a corner with rigid thinking, then ASPEN is for you! I have a life long habit of underestimating myself, and then realising I could have done the job as well as anyone else. That is where Larch comes in handy. I took these essences for about two weeks and then stopped. Part of being able to choose your own essences is having the self-awareness and introspection to be honest when you're blocking your progress in some way. We all have our blind spots, and its also possible to meditate and ask your Higher Self for answers =)

Sooo, I hope you consider flower healing! I have a sneaking suspicion that you might enjoy the same effect if you fill your home with the flowers you need. Sometimes I buy flowers by color to stimulate a particular chakra. Also helps!

Read Dr Bach's Book

Dr Edward Bachs flower remedies were meant to be a Do-It-Yourself emotional and mental support system and his manual with recipes, uses and applications is available at BachCentre.com. Read it to get started with essences! Hope it helps =)

Flowers and Floral Healing

Today I have a surprise for you! Loads of flowers!

Flowers lift our spirits and heal our soul. Like many others, I'm drawn to flowers by their color, fragrance and how they make me feel. It is really nice to meditate on the flower's energy too. Below you will find pictures of the flowers that I photographed at Jamaica Flower Market in Mexico City this morning.

If you're drawn to a particular photograph, close your eyes and visualise the flowers around you. How do they make you feel? Flower meditations can be really lovely, they help us blossom. Enjoy the flowers!

Thank You and Goodbye!

Flowers, Fairies and Joy

At some point in the future, I am going to take a break from energy healing books to write something fun and light hearted. Loved writing my first book but admittedly, cancer was a difficult subject to begin with - especially when my inner hypochondriac turned up - so I asked my intuition for a lighter, brighter topic to explore next.

Initially, I thought of writing a fiction book on humanity, seen through the angels' eyes. But it's taken a turn; I want to bring flowers and fairies into the mix. Writing about nature sounds fun! Last week I sat in the park and started jotting down ideas. What came to mind was a flower shop with a human fairy as the owner.

The flower fairy sends her lovely flowers home with the townspeople, and she begins to realize that the flowers fade too quickly. They are missing something - and that elusive ingredient is joy. Without joy and happiness in their lives, the flowers die. So the fairy closes up her shop and goes in search of joy. My homework for the next few weeks is to find a path that leads to joy so that I can write about it in the tale.

I thought the story could begin when she returned with a joy guide and the town blossomed again. It's fair to say to say that joyful people benefit from their happiness, the question is how do we find that joy in the first place? So I think I might follow her instead and hope that she finds joy in her journey. Otherwise, the tale might not have a happy ending! Some of the original fairy tales had dark twists, turns, and endings but I hope this one ends well. We'll see as it goes.

Over the next few months, I will write up some of my Flower Fairy character sketches, brainstorms, and scenery. I will also play around with tone of voice and other elements on my fiction blog, called  To Bake a Hummingbird (a tribute to one of my favorite books, and to the cutest cupcake shop in London!) Please click through if you'd like to watch the story unfold. Wish me luck and inspiration LOL =)
