Showing Our True Colors

So today, I’m going to tell you a little story about myself. It's about how I have taken baby steps– and I do mean baby steps – to get where I am now. Six years ago, I had just moved to London for work. Being new to the UK, I also wanted to meet people so I started signing up for a bunch of classes: starting with astrology, Kabbalah and meditation. Eventually these led me to my psychic school, where I signed up for a clairvoyance workshop. The thought of clairvoyant or clairaudient messages was exciting, but I kept it a secret so that people wouldn’t think I had gone completely mad. At that point, I myself had trouble believing it was real.

The first class I attended was a clairvoyant workshop where we tuned into our classmates' homes and described them to each other. The teacher guided us through a meditation, asking questions like: Is it a building? A house? How many rooms? How many people? Do they have pets, etc.? Our intuition filled in the blanks. I was new so I didn't expect to get much. The person I was working with, however, described my apartment down to a T. He saw a massive building, the one I lived in had almost 1000 flats. He also mentioned walking through an endless corridor before getting to my “front door” He also described the decoration inside the flat. I was blown away; it proved these abilities were real. I just had to put in the time to develop them myself.

I signed up for weekly classes right away, and eight months later, I started an anonymous blog to keep track of everything that happened in class. That blog was Diary of a Psychic Healer.  For the longest time, the blog was my little secret. I shared it with a few close friends, then with my siblings and after two years, I finally mentioned it to the rest of my family. By then I had had enough experience with intuition and healing to trust that these impressions were real. But I was still nervous about putting my name on my blog. On some level, I knew that if I wanted to remain in the corporate world, this part of my life had to stay off the Internet. Everything is on Google these days and I didn't want a potential employer ruling me out. It wasn’t until I finally worked up the courage to quit my job and pursue healing as a career, that I put my name on my Diary of a Psychic Healer Blog and Facebook Page, which by then had hundreds of thousands of views. Even then, if you Googled me, you wouldn’t find the blog so easily.

A few weeks ago I was thinking back to my final days in the corporate world. My then boss told me the story of Christopher Columbus settling down in the New World. Going home may have been tempting for his team, but Columbus was determined to make it work. So much that he burned the ships to keep himself from going back (not sure if this is true). The moral of the story was that my career change would have better chances of success if I burned my bridges.

That was nearly two years ago.

This weekend I finally took the training wheels off my blog. For a while now, I have known that I had to upgrade my blog to make it more user-friendly, but also, make myself easier to find. A few days ago I started fiddling about with the landing page, template and design. Before I knew what happened, my familiar and somewhat anonymous template had disappeared. I also updated the URL on the About Regina tab (up top) so that it includes my full name - a small detail that means my blog will soon turn up in Google searches for my name.

Constant Craving by Doreen Virtue (A Book Review)

On January 3rd, I started an informal Sugar Detox. It was going to last all month, but I cut it short after 21 days when this beautiful tempura ice cream landed on the table at Sunday Brunch. That's not bad, I'm proud of how far I have come. My goal was not about weight loss (if anything, I think my waistline resents all of the unsweetened peanut butter I had for dessert), but to be more aware of the sugar in processed foods. Mission accomplished! My sweet tooth has also been curbed, and that means a lot. The most dramatic change has been in how I take my cappuccinos, no sugar! And the fact that I'm mostly OK with fruit for dessert. It's also been three weeks since I munched on processed cereal bars. Instead I've had tons of veggies, more veggies and unsweetened peanut or macadamia butter. Yummy!

I also read a fantastic book by Doreen Virtue: Constant Craving. The food we eat fills our tummy but it often satisfies an emotional need. Especially when we tend to crave certain types of foods and not others. The ones I'm most drawn to paint an interesting picture of my personality. Here is what I discovered:

  • Spice up your life! If we're constantly craving hot sauce and spicy food, it might be excitement that we are after. Do I put hot sauce on everything because I'm bored, or because I'm from Mexico? Tough call. I might eat more spicy foods that most of my countrymen, and often I'll go looking for crunchy snacks just so that I can cover them with chilli powder. My favorite is cucumbers with lime and chili powder but potato chips work just as well.
  • Peanuts and Peanut Butter: This is about fun! Snickers and Reese's are my favorite chocolate bars. Barely any chocolate and lots of peanut. It also dawned on me that I am happy in jobs with a high fun factor. Other business school graduates look for high stakes positions and intellectual challenges. For me it's about fun. My favorite role was pribably sports and movie marketing at a cola company. Followed by product launches and advertising, which were both creative. I ended up leaving both of these jobs when the fun, creative side dried up. No fun, no joy.
  • Crunchy Snacks:  Stress buster! My jaw is often tense, and in her book Doreen tells us that crunchy snacks help us release that tension. The only thing that has made it go away for longer periods of time is acupuncture.
  • Salty Foods:  Another stress buster, if my memory is correct.

This book is a fantastic read for healers. I would recommend it to therapists as well, you can ask your clients a few  questions to get an idea of what they're looking for on a subconscious level. It was written for personal use, healing, and to analyze our cravings.

I give it Five Stars!

What are Angel Card Readings like?

Today I would like to share a few examples of Angel Card Readings. As you might guess, readings usually start with a question from the client. It could be about romance, career or family dynamics. The cards give us clues about the message and our intuition fills in the gaps. I find that it is easiest to ask for guidance on a topic without going into too much detail about the circumstances. Saying too much upfront is called Feeding the Psychic, and can sometimes confuse the reading. Asking for general guidance on love, life or career is usually enough.

A Romance Reading for Neece

Romance questions tend to focus on when a partner will appear, or if the current relationship is the one. The answer often includes emotional healing tools, and ideas on how to go about manifesting that romance. So for example, you might get the message to work on your self-esteem and self-worth so that you can attract partners with a healthier vibration. We often attract people who mirror or complement our issues. Self-healing is away to break those patterns.

Today's reading is for Neece, who asked about romance. I pulled three cards, and the first was about finances. My intuition tells me there are trust issues where money and love are concerned. The word prenup came to mind, followed by a second card about Marriage. It feels like one of the parties needs assurances about the other’s affection. Professing their love isn't enough and maybe that prenup is insurance for a rainy day. This could be interpreted literally, hinting at a question about prenups, but its more likely to be about trust. What makes us feel secure in a relationship? The general advice is to balance the Heart, Brow and Root Chakras, because trust has to be based on more than a piece of paper. Self-healing can help Neece be more objective.

A Career Reading for Armando

Our next question was submitted by Armando: Is he on the right path or is it time to move one? This is I am using two decks to answer it, the first is Doreen Virtue's Life Purpose Oracle deck. The second is the The Angel Tarot which can give us more clarity on the events leading up to this moment. Here they are:

Image: The Angel Tarot Deck, by Radleigh Valentine

The Past - Six of Earth and Books/Study: The cards  came up, were Six of Earth and Books/Study. The first card shows a young fairy dividing her gold coins in two separate piles. She’s trying to make both “projects” work, and to do this she needs a delicate balance so as not to let things topple over. This was a good way to mitigate financial risks while we test the waters with a new endeavor. The second card tells us that Armando studied this situation carefully. This will serve him well in the future.

The Present - Five of Water & Career Change: In combination, these cards tell us that things haven’t gone as planned. These cards point to the question: Does Armando need to revise his plans? I’m tempted to say “put your mistakes behind you” and chalk up any failed endeavors as personal growth lessons. The mistakes he's made so far will help Armando polish his business skills in the future. It's time to think about what could be done differently. Learn from the mistakes and build on them going forward.

The Future - Queen of Earth & Teaching: The queen of earth is grounded, practical and good with people skills. She's an expert at manifesting. The teaching card that comes up is a sharp contrast to the 1st Books/Reading card. The first is about introspection, learning and cultivating our personal skills. The teaching card is what we send out to the world. I took it to mean that Armando could be more outgoing and vocal with his business efforts. The area to look at may be marketing and communications.

A Health Reading for Tabbitha

Tabbitha sent in the last question, inquiring about her health (especially spiritual health). The headlines on the cards were: Follow Your Heart's Desires, You have the Gift of Healing, Have Faith in your Abilities and finally, The Sun Shines On You. This message is probably meant to remove self-doubt and fear. Our spiritual health is as its best when we’re fearless in the pursuit of happiness.

More on Angel Readings ...

I hope you enjoyed this introduction. You can book a reading here, or sign up for a class and learn to do it yourself. Nothing beats having that personal connection! I'll be offering live, online lessons this year so please stay tuned! My idea is to host weekly lessons online via Google Hangouts. Please get in touch to join =)

A Sugar Detox Challenge

So here we are! First week of 2015. Everyone is talking about New Year's Resolutions. The winter months are also a great time to look inward, do a bit of housekeeping. I for one have realised that I need to be more conscious of my food choices, especially where sugar is concerned. So I'm embarking on a 30 Day Sugar Detox. Rather than eliminate sugar from my life, this lightweight cleanse has two specific objectives:
  1. Increase my awareness of sugar in food, especially "hidden sugars"
  2. Retrain my palate and (fingers crossed) curb that sweet tooth.

Let's start with Awareness. We all expect obvious things like cookies, cakes and ice cream to be high in sugar. That's probably why we eat them in the first place. But what about everyday items like salad dressings, ketchup, low fat yogurt or my favourite Chipotle hot sauce. All of these items are sweetened! Even healthy sounding treats like natural peanut butter are sweetened, when plain old PB is so delicious! According to SugarDetox.me, 75% of packaged goods sold in supermarkets are sweetened. I'm guessing it’s the result of consumer taste testing, where our natural affinity for sugar wins out time and time again. Our sugar preferences were an asset in the old days when our ancestors had to hunt for food an energy. Now that food is so readily available, these cravings have turned into a public health crisis. It's time to educate ourselves on food. This book in the photo is highly recommended by a friend. It's on my To Read List (but not related to my current Sugar Detox).

It would be so much easier to cut back on sweets if I didn't like them so much, which brings me to the second goal of my Sugar Detox: Retraining the Palate. The next 30 days I'll be avoiding sugar, starting with the obvious, but also checking ingredient lists to see where sugar ranks in the recipe (Here's a tip, ingredients are ordered by quantity, so if sugar is near the top, what you are eating is probably sugar disguised as something else). I'm hoping my palate will get used to unsweetened foods. This is the first time I try a sugar cleanse, but cutting back has been an ongoing process. Two years ago I was one of those people who loved Caramel Macchiatos, having one almost every day. The truth is, even if you're thin it's not healthy to have that much sugar. Sugar consumption has been linked with cancer and diabetes, not to mention obesity.

Wrapping Up. I'm not a nutritionist so this Sugar Detox is driven partly by common sense, but also because I listen to my body. It's telling me, enough with the sweets! At this point, I have no intention of giving up sugar completely. I like Nutella too much for that. But what I would like to accomplish, is to eat less sugar, and to choose when and how much. For that to happen one has to become aware of hidden sugars in food, so that we can start to choose unsweetened options and hopefully, enjoy them too.

Happy New Year! 2015

Happy New Year! May all of our heart felt wishes come true this 2015! The Heart's desires are the quickest route to fulfilling our highest good, full of loving-kindness for ourselves and for others.

Whereas our ego consciousness may have to be "careful" what it wishes for, our heart's desires come from the soul, and once we release any internal blocks, they are also quick to manifest.

Meditate on a wish, focus on how it feels, and bring that feeling down to your heart for completion. This simple meditation can open doors that we never knew existed.

Happy 2015!

10 Tips for a Prosperous Life

In business school (yes, I did an MBA) we were encouraged to think about our strengths - what we were good at or passionate about - but also where we needed to improve to be well rounded.

This approach has been incredibly helpful for me. And surprise, surprise! Intuition is the secret; it points us towards our uniqueness or genius (that inner spark of creativity), which makes it easy for us to shine without being overly competitive.

Along those lines, here are 10 Tips for a Prosperous Life. I need to come back to these more often myself. Enjoy!

  • Gratitude is the attitude! A prosperous life includes health, wealth, love, and emotional stability among other things. Take a moment to feel appreciation for what is going well in your life. Pay some of it forward - by sharing with friends or reaching out to those in need (of a hug, too!) Kindness goes a long way.
  • Hold yourself accountable for habits that influence your finances. Don't stick your head in the sand, hoping for a miracle. Ask yourself if you could be more motivated, disciplined or proactive. Make a commitment to yourself. Ask for professional guidance if needed.
  • Find a hobby you are passionate about and see how far it takes you! The resulting joy and enthusiasm will spill over to other areas of your life.
  • Invest in yourself and in your personal relationships. When you look back on your life, these are the connections that will make you feel blessed. If a friend is great at something you’d like to learn, ask for mentoring. Do the same for others.
  • Think Value Added: Ask your intuition how you can add value - where can you make a concrete difference in other people's lives. Add value, share confidently, and the money will follow. Solve a problem. Read this post on generating higher earnings (from my Kabbalah days)
  • Generosity: Time, money, energy and knowledge are valuable resources. Sharing is a good way to grease your manifesting wheels and break out of a scarcity mindset.
  • Talk Yourself Up! Know your self-worth and use affirmations to boost your confidence. If we believe in ourselves it's likely others will too, and in what we have to offer. We all have strengths and weaknesses; focus on what you do well. If a specific phrase rings untrue, choose one that boosts your confidence and is believable.
  • Branch Out! Think about turning that hobby we discussed into a side business, whether it's photography, organic farming, or even angel card readings. Start small and let it snowball with time. You'll be surprised!
  • Be more productive: When planning your week, start with the most loathsome task on your list. The one you'd love to ignore. With that done, the rest of your week will be a breeze! One of my dad’s friends gave me this piece of advice years ago and it has made a huge difference.
  • Visualise Success! Think about where you'd like to be in 5 or 10 years. Make an action plan and visualise yourself doing well! It helps to come back to this every year. Ask yourself if you’re still taking steps in that direction and if the goal is still relevant. Thank the Universe for guiding you. You'll still do the work, but it will help!

With that in mind, add a dash of magick💛
