Exploring the 12 (or 13) Chakra System

When I was a healing student, circa 2011, we spent lots of time connecting with the Chakras and looking at how they influence our lives. Many of us are familiar with the seven chakra system, beginning with the Root Chakra at the base of the spine and working our way up the Crown Chakra.

In this scheme, the Heart Chakra is our center, with three chakras below and three above it. The ones found below the Heart Chakra are the Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus. In my book, Chakra Healing & Magick, I refer to these as manifesting chakras because their energy relates to how present we are in the world, and if we are able to take an idea and see it to fruition. The three Chakras above the Heart can be viewed as metaphysical in nature, taking our attention beyond the physical realm through the Throat, Brow and Crown where we experience clairaudience, clairvoyance and intuition.

Generally, we would begin with chakra meditations and healing activities to activate these seven energy centers. We can do this by meditating, practicing Reiki, yoga or other healing modalities.

"Waking Up" Your Chakras

We also have Chakras directly over our heads in the Aura and one beneath our feet, connecting us to Mother Earth. The latter is called the Earth Star Chakra. These are transpersonal, taking our awareness beyond our physical selves and identity. The Earth Star is one of the reasons we enjoy nature, making it possible for us to feel the energy in the trees, plants and flowers!

Ideally we would work with one Chakra group at a time, going up the consciousness ladder from the Root to Crown. I spent several years on the first nine Chakras before moving onto those above the head, which can be seen as transpersonal because they make it possible us to tap into the collective consciousness and our soul's plan. The more we activate the Chakras numbered 8-13, the easier it is for us to channel compassion and creative power.

The 12 (or 13) Chakra System

Below you will find a list of the Chakras along with my experience of them, starting with the Unity Chakra at the very top of the Aura, to the Earth Star Chakra below our feet. Work your way up from the bottom, focusing on grounding and on the chakras below the Heart.

The Transpersonal Chakras are in pink;

    • Unity Chakra: This one makes it possible for us to see ourselves as one with the rest of humanity, with nature and with Source. As far as I can tell, it's about the collective, and it makes it possible for us to have empathy for all beings on Earth. It connects us with 'all that is' or exists in every dimension. We can connect with the Unity Chakra by meditating on the energy of infinite compassion and letting it flow through us. I perceive it as a soft gold light that sits on top of the Aura. Whether we can fully activate it is up for debate. It is oneness and nothingness
    • Stellar Gateway: I'm not entirely sure about this one, and it sounds like science fiction, but the Stellar Gateway taps into the Universe's energy. Is this a Chakra or a doorway, or both? We receive light from all of the stars in the universe through this gateway - as much as we can handle based our seven main chakras. 2021 Update: My gut feeling is that the Stellar Gateway relates to your Higher Self 🤍🤍🤍
    • Soular (Soul Star) Chakra: This one references our Solar System as well as the Soul. This is where I focus on when I am reading someone's Natal Astrology Chart or focusing on major issues that could be seen as Karma. It helps us tap into past lives for healing and to awaken inner gifts. I tend to see it as a shining light over my head. Sometimes a moon.
    • Causal Chakra* I see and feel this as a Selenite circle or hoop near the Crown Chakra. Like all of the transpersonal Chakras, it begins to awaken naturally when we bring light down from above in energy healing meditations. It makes it easier for us to receive messages from angels and universal light from above. My feeling is that the Causal Chakra is not stationary, creating a halo effect when active. It acts as a light switch between the Unity, Stellar and Soular Chakras, and the Crown👇🏻

Here is a summary of the seven main chakras as well as two transpersonal chakras. In my student Healer days I focused almost exclusively on healing the seven main chakras; they are covered in both of my energy healing books.

The Transpersonal Chakras awaken on their own when we channel energy healing. I’d start with the seven main chakras. You’ll find a basic chakra meditation HERE

    • The Crown: Connection to Source, your Soul & Intuition.
    • The Brow: Thought, belief, logic, imagination, ideas.
    • The Throat:  Communication skills, self-expression.
    • The Higher Heart Chakra: Compassion and unconditional love. This chakra funnels energy from a deeper level of being, bringing our intention and soul purpose to life. We can ground ourselves from this energy center, which then makes it easier for us to channel lots of healing. Activate your Higher Heart Chakra.
    • The Heart: Self-love, love in relationships, abundance.
    • The Solar Plexus: Confidence, joy, power, miracles.
    • The Sacral Chakra:  Creativity, appetite for life, passion.
    • The Root Chakra:  Roots, security, belonging.
    • Earth Star Chakra: Our connection with Nature. Accessing this Chakra gives us deep enough grounding so that we can tap into the rest . Here is an Earth Star Meditation

Back To The Basics

Waking up the Chakras is a lot of fun, especially when you start to access the transpersonal energy centers. This is when meditation becomes an actual adventure. But before we flex the non-physical Chakras that take our consciousness out into the Universe (and potentially beyond!) we have to ground ourselves 100%

Think of a tree and how deep its roots have to be for it to stand tall without blowing over. Our energy works the same way, regardless of the type of healing that we practice. It is vital to develop a grounding practice before flexing any of the Chakras above the Heart.

Finding Our True Center...

So this dawned on me last week. When we start thinking of 13 Chakras instead of seven, the Heart is no longer the bridge between the physical realm and the non-physical. The Throat Chakra is our energy center when we consider our energy body (or Aura). This was a pleasant surprise because the last year I have been attending a yoga class that focuses on sound and music as tools for self-healing and consciousness boosting. In class we tend to activate healing energy by singing mantras, but also the occasional pop or dance song.

🫶🏻 Read my books below for an intro to energy healing and intuition. Please note, they lay the foundations but my books do NOT include the transpersonal chakras 🤍

Does eating meat make us less intuitive?

Last month I went on a yoga retreat in tiny resort called Ollinyotl, Mexico. The place is amazing, surrounded by mountains that give off a constant vibe. We were in the middle of nowhere, with no internet and hardly any phone reception.

I am on-again-off-again with yoga, and sadly, I sprained my neck a few days before the retreat so I missed most of the yoga sessions and spent time in nature instead. The teachers were super kind and added a restorative yoga class.

Yoga Nidra was a nice surprise too: a guided meditation that puts us in a deep sleep. I'm sure I went somewhere else entirely!

Ollinyotl means "Movement from the Heart" in the Nahuatl language.

The yoga-psychology part of the retreat was amazing. We learned tools to raise our physical vibration so that it is easier to connect with our spirit. The goal was to reach Sattvic mode (more on that later), so for example, we woke up at 6:30 AM for breathing exercises, followed a strictly vegetarian diet for three days, and skipped coffee and black tea. Skipping coffee was the hardest part for me. In 2016 I tried being a weekday vegetarian for 6 months and I'm thinking of going back. Not for intuitive reasons, but because it feels good and I like veggies.

Back to Square 1

Does eating meat make us less intuitive or spiritual? I'd be tempted to say NO. Less rational YES, because the farmed food industry has terrible consequences on the planet. If we are aware of the environmental damage, continuing to eat animal products is bonkers (See Here).

This is the main reason why I attempted to become a weekday vegetarian. At the time I felt good physically, but I didn't think it had any effect on my intuitive readings. I said as much in my latest book, Chakra Healing & Magick, though in hindsight, I was able to write it in a very short time. Maybe the diet let the insights flow...

Does it make us less spiritual?

Part of me feels that we only eat factory-raised animals because we never see the way they are kept in the run-up to being killed. Once you've watched videos of cows hooked up to machines that milk them, it is easy to become disgusted and switch to almond milk or soy. But this is related to empathy and compassion, which are human traits. So no, I don't think skipping meat is spiritual - rather, it is an emotional response that is 100% human.

With all this, I still eat meat and I love burgers, barbecue and some Lebanese dishes that would be impossible to eat sans meat. But a part of me wants to cut back for a million different reasons, and the easiest way to do it, I think, is to become mostly vegetarian so that when you do eat meat, it's free-range animals. The fact that you can have a steak or fish on weekends makes it easier to go without on weekdays. Below you'll find a clip from a Ted Talk that I like: Why I'm a weekday vegetarian, by Graham Hill.

And Some Exciting News!

My Chakra Healing & Magick book is getting an update - the Kindle book will be offline for a few weeks. The revised paperback is already on Amazon. I made a few changes: rewriting my intro to the Solar Plexus Chakra to reflect the insights I have had in healing sessions lately, and swapping out one of the affirmations that I had included in the section on healing with mandalas and color. We also have a new grounding visualisation in Chapter 1 that will be easier to practice - with flashes of red, to activate the Root Chakra.

Those are the updates! For those of you who already have the paperback, I will post them on the blog soon. If you have the Kindle version you'll be able to download the updated file.

Reiki hugs!

A Mystical Parting of The Red Sea

About two years ago I signed up for a Kabbalah class were we learn about the mystical side of Judaism. The idea is that any passage in the Torah or Old Testament can be interpreted on four levels; the first being a literal interpretation, the next levels being allegorical and figurative, and deep down, a mystical side that Kabbalists will look for. Below you will find an example.

The Exodus: A Closer Look

In the Exodus there is a passage that most of us are familiar with, where Moses leads enslaved Jews out of Egypt. At one point, they are trapped in front an ocean with the Egyptian army coming up behind them. Something happens (a bit of singing is involved), the Red Sea parts and they make their way to safety.

In a literal sense, you would say that historically, the Jews escaped with this miracle, and that may be the case. I am just wondering how it might have happened.

Metaphorically, you could say that Egypt and the pharaohs represented the enslavement of the human spirit to the ego, fear and material reality. Israel is the eternal aspect of the soul. And the miracle is when our thoughts and feelings get out of the way, and we can see clearly.

In Kabbalah, the interpretation goes a bit deeper and turns almost magical when we look at the Hebrew letters that are involved in that passage. Namely, 72 combinations of three letter words that appear for the very first time in the Exodus. Kabbalists would tell you that these combinations of Hebrew letters parted the Sea.

The 72 Names of God

These combinations are known as the 72 Names of God, though we could view them as attributes or qualities of God. The idea is that by meditating on them, you bring some of those qualities into yourself - and they are really lovely. For example, the Miracle Making combination involves healing yourself to release any and all traces of envy, doubt, self-pity and anger, making way for miracles, blessings and light to enter. If you read my post on Attracting with Joy vs Repelling with Envy, this is exactly what we need to experience all kinds of miracles in our lives.

If you would like to know more about the 72 Names of God, the Kabbalah Centre has a meditation deck that is really easy to use.

Comparing Old & New Testaments

If you have noticed, I am a bit of a geek. One of the things I like reading up on is different belief systems to see where there is an overlap. A few months ago I was looking at the Lord's Prayer and when I saw the line "Give us this day our daily bread," the Hebrew letters Resh Hei Ayin flashed through my mind. It turned out that the numerology from these letters matches the number of fish and bread that are multiplied in the Gospels. I wrote about this a year ago in a post called Miracle Making With Hebrew Letters

Over the years I have read a dozen Kabbalah books and gone to class with teachers from different schools, at the Berg's Kabbalah Centre and also other unaffiliated schools. Several have implied that the New Testament has quite a few Kabbalistic elements, and given the fact that Jesus was Jewish and that Kabbalah has been around for thousands of years; he would have known about it.

So on a whim, I spent a few weeks going through the 72 Names and thinking about ones that might fit other lines in the Lords Prayer. It felt like a wild goose chase; it's on my blog HERE.

The Unexplained Phenomena

I might have left it there, but after I posted this article on my blog, something weird happened. If you go to Diary of a Psychic Healer on your phone and view the mobile version, you will always see six posts on the front page. When a new one is published, it sits at the top of the list, and the post that had been at the bottom is pushed to the second page, which can be accessed by clicking on a small arrow at the very bottom of the mobile view....

This didn't happen with the 72 Names of God post. I do not know what happened, but a cyber-bookmark was inserted, separating that post from all of the posts that came before it. At first, I thought the post was just really long, and that is why it was the only one showing on the front page. As I continued publishing, the ones that came later are shown above it, but none below.

Have a look for yourself by browsing from your phones. I have also included pictures here, though my phone is small and I can't zoom out to show the whole picture. This is what it looks like.

The Current Front Page:

I am including two separate screenshots for my current front page, so it is obvious I didn't manipulate it. We have "Songs To Manifest From the Heart" at the top (until I publish the post I'm writing now, on the Red Sea) and then all of my recent posts below.

And The 72 Names of God:

This is the post that I referenced earlier, with the cyber bookmark. If you scroll down the front page and click on the arrows pointing left and right, it will show you posts written before an after. For some reason, this one is either at the bottom of a very short list, with none below it, or all by itself. That's my weird unexplained phenomena - and fitting, as the post was about parting the Red Sea (in this case, the blog).

This morning I made a small revision to that post about the 72 names and the Lords Prayer, changing two of the names that I had chosen. I was half expecting something to change but it didn't. And I'm curious to see what happens when I publish this new post at noon, on September 11th 2018. I expect the front page to rearrange itself, and we'll see how long the cyber-bookmark stays in place. Hope this makes sense.

Thank you for reading this long-winded post - I wanted to share it with you.

Reiki hugs,

Regina

Songs To Manifest From the Heart

The past year I have been attending a yoga class where we sing mantras and sometimes dance songs. It is called Naam Yoga; I love that it puts me in a fantastic mood. One of my favourites is a mantra called Sacred Aum, by Dr Joseph Michael Levry. Listen to the clip HERE

Some call Aum the sound of creation. This sound exists in several spiritual traditions: Amen in Christianity, OM in Hinduism and Aum in Kabbalah (one of the 72 Names of God from the Exodus). I love listening to music, but I didn't understand how it went with mantras until I came across Aum again last week while reading Wayne Dyer's book, Manifest Your Destiny

In the book, Dyer walks us through nine principles that shift our worldview to one that is compassionate, collaborative and loving towards the people that we encounter. From this place of respect - where we genuinely listen to understand instead of listening to reply - he recommends meditations to manifest our heart's desires with sound, specifically AUM in the mornings and then another sound at night to reflect gratitude for what we have already experienced. I won't spoil it for you, read the book to learn about his approach!

One of the things that struck a chord with me in Manifest Your Destiny was the practice of vibrating visions through the chakras, beginning at the base of the spine and working our way up to the Brow so that we can bring it into being. When I was writing Chakra Healing & Magick, I felt like it would be best to describe those Chakras (or energy centers) above the Heart as metaphysical in nature - allowing us to see, feel and hear archangels, God and all of the spiritual support that surrounds us. And that the Chakras below the Heart were more involved in manifesting - hence the classification of manifesting & metaphysical chakras.

Dr Levry's Sacred Aum track can be found on the Rootlight website. I have been listening to the full version while doing the chakra visualizations that Wayne Dyer describes in his book. Listen to the clip first to see if you like it! =)

Lastly, A Song For Healing

I am enjoying Dyer's Manifest Your Destiny book and how it fits in so seamlessly with the concepts that we have been covering in Naam Yoga. Especially the focus on music as a tool to heal ourselves, as the seven musical notes resonate with the chakras (details here). Below you'll find my go-to-song for energy healing sessions. Lately I've been playing it for friends and family before surgeries or other medical procedures as it helps us relax and trust the process.

Please share your experiences with music or sound healing in the comment box. And follow the links below to my books for more on energy healing and meditation.

Reiki hugs,

Regina
