I’m the tiger from my nightmares 🔥🔥🔥

Growing up, I had a recurring nightmare where we were having lunch at my grandmother’s house. The wall came tumbling down and a roaring tiger came out from behind. Everyone went scrambling - my aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends who were there for lunch. My 8- year old self ran and hid behind a big black piano.

It didn’t look like exactly my grandparents' house, for one, we seemed to be eating on large picnic tables. I have a clear image of one of my aunts staying put, the rest of the people were hazy. The walls were made of carton too; it didn't keep anything back.

I would stay huddled behind that piano bench, scared that the tiger would eat me. It paced back and forth but it didn’t feel angry or hungry. My inner child was terrified, as you would be if a tiger suddenly appeared in front of you and you were stuck there.

After a few weeks of this recurring dream, one night I was watching the tiger and I suddenly realized that it was a dream. The tiger wasn’t there. But unfortunately, someone at school had told us that if you died in a dream you would then die in real life. So I hid from that tiger for years....

Decoding Dreams

Fast forward about 35 years and I asked a Jungian psychologist for recommendations on child psychology books. At the time, I wanted to enroll in a counseling masters but I wasn’t sure what style to adopt.

He recommended an author called Donald Kalsched and I read a book on dreams, nightmares and what they have to tell us. The ebook was super expensive so I got the Kindle in Portuguese 🇧🇷: O Mundo Interior Do Trauma (The Inner World of Trauma).

My Portuguese isn’t great but this is what I learned. The book is good, by the way:

  • According to Kalsched, the elements in the recurring dream, or nightmare in my case, are parts of your psyche that are trying to protect you, while also revealing an unconscious complex. It's all you in the dream.
  • He calls those complexes archetypal self-care systems (translating from Portuguese) and they have energy and personality in our dream state and unconscious. I imagine they influence our behavior while we are awake too, in knee-jerk reactions?
  • We can revisit the dream to decode it; as far as I can tell, this is part of counseling sessions. My approach was to send healing to that part of me with Reiki and energy healing.

Here are my insights. I read the book two years ago but I'd forgotten about it until recently, when a song made it click.

  • If you die in a dream, you don’t die in real life. Obvious, but my inner child needed to hear that. Yesterday I started there and then sent healing to the part of me that went into hiding...
  • I‘d already been connecting with Inanna, the goddess of music and war, after a meditation where Katy Perry’s Roar came up. I was trying to make friends with a tiger but my inner child was still terrified. In energy healing, that’s a fragmented part of your psyche that that has to be brought back into the fold, gently.
  • A few weeks ago I realized that the tiger represents someone in my family - it’s a person and an energy that is powerful and that had the intention of standing up for me. That tiger energy was there for all of us. It represented visibility and presence.
  • But as a child, and even more recently as an adult, big displays of emotion threw me off. That energy was terrifying to me as a child, because of the emotion and the tiger image. My adult self isn't scared; I like the idea of a tiger spirit animal.

That tiger was always larger than life in my unconscious, but when I bring it up and integrate it into my personality, it's amazing. This is what I need to go out into the world confidently and to keep from recoiling. So yes, awesome; the antihero becomes the antidote. I'm the tiger, it's me 🔥

Intuitively, I've felt that tiger walking with me during meditations, and leaping out of my solar plexus chakra, into the world. Here is the song that inspired this aha moment!

BTW -  I’m fluent in English, Spanish, French and I speak a little Italian. I don’t speak Portuguese but it’s similar enough to work it out. Got through a third of the book, just enough to decipher this dream.

For now my energy healing books are available in English and Spanish 🦁

Songs To Manifest From the Heart

The past year I have been attending a yoga class where we sing mantras and sometimes dance songs. It is called Naam Yoga; I love that it puts me in a fantastic mood. One of my favourites is a mantra called Sacred Aum, by Dr Joseph Michael Levry. Listen to the clip here.

Some call Aum the sound of creation. This sound exists in several spiritual traditions: Amen in Christianity, OM in Hinduism and Aum in Kabbalah (one of the 72 Names of God from the Exodus). I love listening to music, but I didn't understand how it went with mantras until I came across Aum again last week while reading Wayne Dyer's book, Manifest Your Destiny

In the book, Dyer walks us through nine principles that shift our worldview to one that is compassionate, collaborative and loving towards the people that we encounter. From this place of respect - where we genuinely listen to understand instead of listening to reply - he recommends meditations to manifest our heart's desires with sound, specifically AUM in the mornings and then another sound at night to reflect gratitude for what we have already experienced. I won't spoil it for you, read the book to learn about his approach!

One of the things that struck a chord with me in Manifest Your Destiny was the practice of vibrating visions through the chakras, beginning at the base of the spine and working our way up to the Brow so that we can bring it into being. When I was writing Chakra Healing & Magick, I felt like it would be best to describe those Chakras (or energy centers) above the Heart as metaphysical in nature - allowing us to see, feel and hear archangels, God and all of the spiritual support that surrounds us. And that the Chakras below the Heart were more involved in manifesting - hence the classification of manifesting & metaphysical chakras.

Dr Levry's Sacred Aum track can be found on the Rootlight website. I have been listening to the full version while doing the chakra visualizations that Wayne Dyer describes in his book. Listen to the clip first to see if you like it! =)

Lastly, A Song For Healing

I am enjoying Dyer's Manifest Your Destiny book and how it fits in so seamlessly with the concepts that we have been covering in Naam Yoga. Especially the focus on music as a tool to heal ourselves, as the seven musical notes resonate with the chakras (details here). Below you'll find my go-to-song for energy healing sessions. Lately I've been playing it for friends and family before surgeries or other medical procedures as it helps us relax and trust the process.

Please share your experiences with music or sound healing in the comment box. And follow the links below to my books for more on energy healing and meditation.

BBC Music Festivals, Lenny Kravitz and Telepathy

This is one of those days when I wonder if I am really psychic or if I am just making stuff up! For those of you who follow my Facebook page you may have noticed that I went to Festival in Hyde Park yesterday. A friend had extra tickets to see Lionel Ritchie and I tagged along.  I'm not a massive Lionel Ritchie fan but I do like his music, and I love the park! Had no idea who else was on the agenda ...

As it turns out, Lionel Ritchie canceled because of illness which was a shame, but soon after we found out that Lenny Kravitz was playing!!! And James Blunt! And the Pierces! I expected the best show to come from Lenny, but I'm a huge Pierces fan so I was thrilled to see them on the set list. As it turns out, I didn't reconize any of the songs The Pierces played, so I'm not as big a fan as I thought. They were great though, one of the sisters wore a flowy white dress with bell sleeves, the other sister wore a  long black dress. With the full moon over the stage it looked very black-and-white-witch-magical. Loved the music, loved the look and feel, but I was still left without my favorite Pierces songs. Listen to the songs, or scroll down to read about my first attempt at telepathy (really!)

Now back to the psychic side of this post ...

Don't ask me why, but I desperately had to hear Lenny Kravitz sing American Woman. He started out singing some of the newer songs, like Stand, he went back to the Cab Driver single that was apparantly popular when he 1st played London 22 years ago, and then moved into a rocking rendition of Fly Away.  There were thousands of people in Hyde Park, the crowd was going wild. I was close to the stage which was also awesome, maybe in the front 1/5 of the crowd. At this point, Fly Away was winding down, I really reallyyyy wanted him to sing American Woman but wasn't sure how much longer he'd be on stage. What's a girl to do?

I grounded myself,  visualized a dark blue beam going from my brow chakra to his brow chakra and I sent the intention to "Sing American Woman" his way. That went on for about 10 seconds, then Lenny turned to talk to his band - as he does after every song - and they started playing American Woman!

It was amazing! These are the songs I enjoyed most:

Healing with Song

Healing can come in many different ways, some of us like to channel energy and clear blockages. Other people like to go for a  walk, talk to a friend or watch a funny movie. At the end of the day we need to release pent up emotions, and our weapon of choice can be as varied as our hairstyles and our wardrobes. Learning to channel our emotions is the corner stone in self-healing, without it we will have a tough time getting to the root of our physical discomfort.

One of the authors I am reading at the moment describes emotions as the language that the body and soul use to communicate with each other. In her book, Your Aura and Your Chakras: The Owner’s Manual, Karla McLaren explains that our soul floods our consciousness with emotions when it needs to communicate, mainly because our conscious physical self doesn't speak the required spiritual language.

If we don't acknowledge these emotions and deal with them, that message will then manifest in the physical body as pain or disease. Based on this rationale it becomes extremely useful to welcome even our dark feelings, and even to marinade in them befor moving on. I don't know about you, but I don't want to end up with chronic pain in my left knee.

Some of us can fall into the trap of over analyzing our problems, and rather than bask in our emotions we're too busy thinking to acknowledge them. I'm definately guilty as charged, so I've come up with a neat trick to make sure I give myself a chance to listen to what my soul is telling me.

One of the greatest outlets I've found is music. I will often put my iTunes on shuffle and wait for the right song to come along. When it does I will sit back and let it wash over me, listening to the melody and the voice rather than the words. When the song is over you can play it again, or turn the music off and meditate on that emotion until it is no longer needed.

Now Time For An Experiment

I am going to link to three songs on Youtube, listen to them and try to feel their mood. They won't all be in English but if you pay attention to the melody and the tone of voice, you'll be suprised by how much you understand. Write about how you felt with each song and please leave a comment with your impressions.

Musical Chairs and Psychometry

I went back to school today for a full day healing workshop. The first lesson had to do becoming aware of our own energy field so that we could detect intrusions. At one point our teacher had us play something like musical chairs, imagine yourself sitting on a chair and feeling your own energy before you get up and swap with the person to your left. We were instructed to sense our classmates' energy, with the intention of spotting the differences. We made note of what we saw, then focused on sending our own energy into the chair and owning the space - thus eliminating our classmate's energetic imprint.

We started out by sensing our own energy. The teacher asked us to pay attention to the way we felt and to scan our body for anything that might be out of place. My left leg felt heavy, I spent all day yesterday on a transatlantic flight and this will usually affect my circulation. A couple years ago I had a thrombosis after a long flight, and I usually make myself walk every hour or so to make sure the circulation keeps going. I was wearing my compression stockings during the class and it was a little uncomfortable, so that didn't surprise me.

That was the strongest sensation in my physical and etheric body. The classmate that I swapped chairs with sensed this, telling me that she felt pain down my left leg. The mental layer had a big surprise, as you may recall I had an eye infection a few weeks ago and have been complaining of tired eyes. This was actually manifesting in the mental layer, about a foot and a half in front of my eyes! I could sense it very strongly, and I'm guessing that my eyes were still getting cloudy because I hadn't cleared it out. Thankfully one of my classmates cleared my brow chakra during a distant healing later that afternoon.

This went on for a few minutes and then we switched chairs. Once again, the instruction was to observe without passing judgment or trying to change anything. We have used this chair swapping technique a couple times in my psychic development classes and my brain instantly switched to psychometry/psychic reading mode. Rather than feel her energy, my third eye popped open and I saw was the big seashell from Disney's The Little Mermaid, if you remember the story the evil sea monster Ursula takes Ariel's voice  and gives her human legs.

Ariel then sets off for dry land, looking to win over the prince that she fell in love with. The problem is that without her voice, the prince doesn't recognize her and he keeps looking for the girl he met on the beach, who he recalls by her song.  With the visual of the seashell came the sound of Ariel's voice, which I heard clearly the melodic Ah-Ah-Ah from the movie.

If you remember the story, Ursula uses the seashell to lure the prince away from her, and its only when she gets her voice back that the humans recognize her for who she is. The moral of the story, was that my classmate needed to use her voice to express her personality and her opinions, instead of censuring herself. I think this resonated with her, but unfortunately we only had about a minute to talk it through so I'm not sure I got the message across.

All in all the exercise was really cool, and it served to illustrate how we can sense other people's energies. In my case, I went straight into clairvoyant reading mode, but if I had been working clairsentiently I might have felt a constriction on my throat. The way that my classmate sensed the pain in my leg illustrates the danger - for lack of a better word - that mixing with other people's energy can pose.

If we take a seat on the subway and the person who was there before us had a headache, we might feel the headache and mistake it for our own pain. The idea is that we can absorb other people's energies and feel their pain, and if we're not careful we can hang on to it. The practice of owning the chair by infusing it with your own energy will be a lifesaver on the public transport system. I like to fill the seat with white light before I sit down, and then concentrate on sending my energy down through the chair and into the earth. This begs the question of what the next person will feel when we leave, so responsible energy management might call for a little light shower before we move on.
