Exploring the 12 (or 13) Chakra System

When I was a student at the School of Intuition & Healing (circa 2011) we spent lots of time connecting with the Chakras and looking at how they influence our lives. Many of us are familiar with the seven chakra system, beginning with the Root Chakra at the base of the spine and working our way up the Crown.

In this scheme, the Heart Chakra is our center, with three chakras below and three above it. The ones found below the Heart Chakra are the Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus. If you have read my Chakra Healing & Magick book, I refer to these as the manifesting chakras because their energy is related to how present we are in the world, and if we're able to take an idea and see it to fruition.

The three Chakras above the Heart can be viewed as metaphysical in nature, taking our attention beyond the physical realm through the Throat, Brow and Crown where we experience clairaudience, clairvoyance and intuition.

Generally, we would begin with chakra meditations and healing activities to activate these seven energy centers. We can do this by meditating, practicing Reiki, yoga or other healing modalities.

"Waking Up" Your Chakras

The more we work with the Chakras, the easier it is for us to access their energy consciously. It's almost like they wake up, and then we can use that energy to our advantage. We can do this with guided meditations, like the ones on Youtube HERE

There are also at least three Chakras directly over our heads in the Aura, and one beneath our feet that connects us with Mother Earth. The latter is called the Earth Star Chakra. It is one of the reasons why we enjoy nature walks, making it possible for us to feel the energy in the trees, plants and flowers!

We can work with one Chakra at a time, working our way up the ladder from the Root to Crown, spending months or years on these Chakras; Before moving onto those above the head, which can be seen as transpersonal because they make it possible us to tap into the collective consciousness and our soul's plan.

The more we activate the Chakras numbered 8-13, the easier it becomes for us to experience compassion and creative power.

The 12 (or 13) Chakra System

Below you'll find a list of all the Chakras. I am including them for informational purposes. Please don't attempt to activate all of them in one go because we can get dizzy or ungrounded. As mentioned in my book, the deeper our grounding and the stronger our 'manifesting' Chakras, the higher we go in meditations.

The Transpersonal Chakras are in pink:

    • Unity Chakra: This one makes it possible for us to see ourselves as one with the rest of humanity, with nature and with animals. As far as I can tell, it's about the collective, and it makes it possible for us to have empathy for all beings on Earth. On some level it connects us with all that is or exists in every dimension. I perceive it as a soft gold light that sits atop the Aura.
    • Stellar Gateway: I'm not entirely sure about this one, and it sounds like science fiction, but the Stellar Gateway taps into the Universe's energy. Is this a Chakra or a doorway, or both? We receive light from all of the stars in the universe through this gateway - as much as we can handle based our seven main chakras.
    • Soular Chakra: This one references our Solar System as well as the Soul. This is where I focus on when I am reading someone's Natal Astrology Chart or focusing on major issues that could be seen as Karma. It helps us tap into past lives for healing and to awaken inner gifts. I tend to picture it as a moon over my head.
    • Causal Chakra: I see and feel this as a Selenite circle above the Crown Chakra. Like all of the transpersonal Chakras, it begins to awaken naturally when we bring light down from above in chakra meditations. This energy center makes it easier for us to receive messages from angels.

The transpersonal Chakras awaken on their own when we follow meditations that bring light through the Crown Chakra into the physical body (like the one mentioned above).

*** For the first years of my journey, I focused almost exclusively on the Chakras in the physical body. Below is a rundown of these Chakras:

    • The Crown: Connection to Source, your Soul & Intuition.
    • The Brow: Thought, belief, logic, imagination, ideas.
    • The Throat:  Communication skills, self-expression.
    • The Higher Heart:  Compassion and unconditional love.
    • The Heart: Self-love, love in relationships, abundance.
    • The Solar Plexus: Confidence, joy, power, miracles.
    • The Sacral Chakra:  Creativity, appetite for life, passion.
    • The Root Chakra:  Roots, security, belonging.
    • Earth Star Chakra: Our connection with Nature.

Back To The Basics

Waking up the Chakras is a lot of fun, especially when you start to access the transpersonal energy centers. This is when meditation becomes an actual adventure. But before we flex the non-physical Chakras that take our consciousness out into the Universe (and potentially beyond!) we have to ground ourselves 100%

Think of a tree and how deep its roots have to be for it to stand tall without blowing over. Our energy works the same way, regardless of the type of healing that we practice. Before working on any of the Chakras above the Heart, read the first chapter from my book. It is available as a gift, HERE

Finding Our True Center...

So this dawned on me last week. When we start thinking of 13 Chakras instead of seven, the Heart is no longer the bridge between the physical realm and the non-physical. The Throat Chakra is our energy center when we consider our energy body (or Aura). This was a pleasant surprise because the last year I have been attending a Naam Yoga class that focuses on sound and music as tools for self-healing and consciousness boosting. We tend to sing mantras for healing and the occasional pop or dance song.

On a side note, before working with all 13 Chakras, we  ground ourselves from the Heart or Higher Heart.

If you are interested in finding your unique sound and power, I would love to recommend Stewart Pearce's Alchemy of Voice. He teaches at The College of Psychic Studies and I remember his workshops being very popular. I was never able to sign up, but I did read his book and really like the focus on finding your signature voice. It aso includes breathing tools to activate it's power.
