The Heart's Intuitive Garden (Meditation)

Last week we discussed the Chakra System and how we can work with these wheels of energy to unlock our Intuition. Today I'm going to share a meditation that we can use to ground ourselves in Mother Nature, flex our Chakras and connect with our team of guides, angels and power animals. It's one of my favourites!

Ideally, I would suggest that you record this on your phone and play it back, as your subconscious responds to your voice. But I have linked to a Youtube video below! =)

1) Clear Your Surroundings

Find a place to sit, one where you won’t be disturbed. It can also help if the room is tidy, as a clean environment reflects on our mental clarity and our Aura. Have a look around the room, notice the décor, the furniture and color pattern. Take a couple deep breaths to calm your mind and release your day. Breathing in love and peace, breathing out stress and tension. Now bring your attention to the soles of your feet and let them relax. Work your way up through your ankles, calves and thighs letting any tension fall down through the floor to the center of the earth for cleansing and purification. Breathe into your stomach and release any tension from your abdomen and chest. Let your attention go up through your shoulders and neck to the top of your head, relaxing as you go. One more deep breath and we are ready to begin.

With your eyes closed, bring your attention to the room. See it in your mind’s eye: the color on the walls, are there curtains, hardwood floors, rugs or carpets? Let these images flash before your eyes for a moment, and watch as they are washed away by the brightest of lights. This light sweeps around the room, clearing, healing and releasing the energy as it goes. See and feel yourself surrounding by this light. It creates a bright, friendly and safe environment for you to work in. Only the highest vibrations are able to penetrate this light, letting your angels and spirit guides through and nothing else. Breathe in this light, and watch as the ceiling lifts off, carried by the power of this light. The room and your body are inundated with white light from above.

2) Connect with Mother Nature

Bring your attention back to the soles of your feet, where our foot chakras connect us with Mother Earth. Visualize and feel these energy centers as they open up ever so slightly. We’re going to ground ourselves by creating a set of grounding cords, and letting them extend down from our Foot Chakras to the center of the earth. Let your imagination bring these cords to life, as you see them cut through layers and layers of dirt, rock and lava before they reach a beautiful cave at the center of the earth. Here we see a massive crystal formation, the Heart of the Earth. Let your intuition give it a color, indicating the healing that you need right now.

Your grounding cords draw on the energy in this crystal. It goes up through the cords, to the bottoms of your feet where its brings tingles and warmth to your body. This fills your feet with healing energy and flows up, through your calves and thighs to the Root Chakra at the bottom of your spine. The Root Chakra is where we feel our connection to the earth, our surroundings and also our sense of physical safety. Let that energy clear and heal any doubts, fear or tension from your physical body and your psyche, firmly anchoring you in a place of love. Release any tension into the ground through your legs, for cleansing and renewal.

3) Activate the Lower Chakras

The Root Chakra is the gateway to the rest of the body. The more we focus on clearing and healing it, the stronger and healthier the rest of the Chakras will be. You may want to repeat this grounding process every morning to deepen your grounding and boost vitality, motivation and sense of belonging in the world. Strong grounding and deep foundations tend to yield specific, timely and helpful intuitive messages.

Next, bring your attention to Sacral Chakra in the lower abdomen, where we feel emotions, creativity and appetite for life. It’s also the Chakra that opens the door to empathy for others, and by clearing and healing it we can release any feelings that may have been absorbed from those around us. Let that earth energy wash through you Sacral Chakra, releasing tension into the ground. We are going to let our Sacral Chakra grow strong with earth energy, infusing it with creative power. This will make it easier for us to create the life we desire.

We are going to balance and heal the Solar Plexus, our personal power center. Located in the upper abdomen, the Solar Plexus is also where we draw boundaries, discover our sense of self and experiences joy. Visualize and feel this beautiful Chakra as it expands, bright yellow and full of sunshine. Know that it is safe for you to shine your light in the world. Embrace your strengths and your weaknesses, and remember that our imperfections make us unique individuals. Your Solar Plexus grows in power & tenderness as it fills with earth energy. Release any misgivings or self-doubt into the ground for purification. A strong Solar Plexus gives us permission to be ourselves.

4) Enter the Heart's Garden

Now bring your attention to the Heart Chakra, the seat of unconditional love and also where we receive the clearest guidance. We are going to work with Earth energy to clear this space and create a garden for our intuition to thrive. See and feel the earth energy as it reaches this loving center, your Heart activates and expands filled with green and pink light. Use your imagination to step into your Heart Chakra, where you see a beautiful garden, blooming with love. Sit on the warm earth and visualize a grounding cord dropping from your Root Chakra at the base of the spine, into the Earth, effectively grounding you from the Heart.

Still firmly grounded, turn your attention to the sky where we find the Sun’s warmth and the Moon’s intuition. Connect with these luminaries and bring their light through the atmosphere, to your garden where the light reaches your body. Your Crown Chakra opens up to receive that light, letting it flow down through your Brow and Throat Chakras illuminating them as it goes. The moonlight comes to rest in your Heart, while the sunlight flows past the Solar Plexus and Sacral Chakras to the Root, shedding light on any aspects of your life that may need healing right now. Observe without judgement and intend for your Heart's loving energy to follow suit, healing that space. Stay as long as you like.

Now that we’re grounded, clear and attuned to earth and sky energy; it’s time to tend to the intuitive garden in our Heart. Look for weeds, dry flowers and gently remove them. In their place, we are going to plant new flowers, letting our imagination bring the colors to life. These flowers represent the different psychic abilities that are available to us:  red for physical sensations, orange for empathy, yellow to help us feels the vibes in our surroundings, sky blue for clairaudience, indigo blue for clairvoyance and violet for just knowing. There are many ways for us to receive intuitive guidance, the colors that stand out merely clue us into your intuitive strengths. We can plant seeds for new flowers to grow and new abilities to develop. For now we will observe with compassion, showering the flowers with love & light.

5) Spirit Guides and Angels

Sit in the garden and feel the energy around you, taking in the light. We’re going to call one of our Spirit Guides or Angels, asking them to join us. Don’t be surprised if they look like a bird or a squirrel. Take a few moments to feel your guide’s energy and get to know them. They know how you feel but they’d like to hear it anyway. Share your thoughts and feelings with them, ask for guidance or help if there’s a particular issue that is troubling you. The answer may come now as a thought or intuition, or it may come to you during the day. We can come back to this place of loving guidance at anytime simply by checking in with our Heart. When you feel ready, thank your guides, angels and your flower garden and say goodbye for now.

6) The End: Closing Down

It's important to close down properly at the end of any intuitive meditation. Sit in the garden and look up at the sky, thanking Father Sun and Mother Moon for their love, support and guidance. Disconnect from their lovely energy, knowing full well that they are always there for you and let your Crown Chakra close down gently. Your Brow and Throat Chakras follow suit. We are going to close and protect our Heart Chakra by visualizing a beautiful fence around the garden, and closing the gate behind us as we leave. Bring your attention back to your body on the chair. Draw your Solar Plexus in closer to your body, protecting it with a gold plate at the front and back. Follow suit with the Sacral Chakra, before bringing your attention to the Root. We’re going to draw our Root Chakra in just a little bit, so that it’s still drawing in warm earth energy. Check your grounding roots, and visualize a bubble of protective light around your body. When you are ready, open your eyes, stretch and have a sip of water. Give yourself some time to come around before getting up.

Psychic Development 101: The Chakra System

Yesterday I discussed the Chakras on my A1R Psychic Radio Show; specifically how they relate to psychic development. As you may know, there are many layers to the Chakra System and we can work with these beautiful energy centres to stimulate different aspects of our lives including spirituality, long term vision, self-expression, personal power and confidence, appetite for life and core foundations.

We use chakra meditations and energy healing to unlock our psychic abilities. Next week I intend to go through a meditation that we can use to flex our Chakras, for now I thought it best to lay the foundations with a bit of theory. And yes, we can all unlock these gifts!

I learned to develop my intuition by healing and stimulating the Base Chakra and working my way up slowly, even though the upper Chakras are traditionally associated with clairaudience, clairvoyance and intuition. If you're new to psychic development and are excited by the possibility of seeing angels, spirit guides or receiving clairvoyant images, you may be tempted to start with the Brow Chakra. Please consider this approach as it is likely to pay off big time in the future.

>> Read my book Chakra Healing & Magick and learn to activate your intuition. Find it on Amazon Here.

The Root (or Base) Chakra: Located at the bottom of the spine, this beautiful red Chakra connects us to Mother Earth, providing a sense of grounding, comfort and joy in our physical surroundings. A healthy Root Chakra enhances our sense of grounding: picture an energetic chord extending down from your spine into the Earth. The deeper it goes, the stronger and more robust your energy will be, making it possible for you to channel powerful energy and insights without toppling over or burning out. Deep grounding also makes it possible for us to receive timely messages that are detailed enough to be actionable. The Root Chakra is our subconscious link to the physicality around us, including obstacles, events and surprises. Deep grounding also brings your God-given, creative energy to Earth.
The Sacral Chakra is often seen as orange in color. It is located in the lower abdomen and is our subconscious link to the magical albeit confusing world of human emotions. A healthy and open Sacral Chakra makes it possible for us to feel and express our emotions, though it can also overwhelm us with other people's issues. Empaths will recognise this phenomenon, and it is one of the reasons why it's so important to ground, clear and protect your energy. We want to be there for our loved ones without feeling their emotions so intensely, and many empaths carry extra weight in this area to add a physical layer of protection. During psychic readings however, it is important to tune into the sitter's energy field and the Sacral Chakra makes it possible for us to get a sense of what they're going through.
The Sacral Chakra also plays a very important role when it comes to shaping the future. We may receive all sorts of information, visions and ideas from our intuition but without a strong Sacral Chakra, it will be hard for us to channel that vision into the physical world. Having strong grounding (Root) and an open, active Sacral Chakra will help us make our dreams a reality. This alone is reason enough to work on our lower Chakras. It will give our presence more oomph, more power and more creativity. Of course, a strong Solar Plexus will also give us the confidence to make it happen.
The Solar Plexus Chakra is located in the upper abdomen and it relates to our sense of self, our likes, dislikes and personal power. Having a strong and clear Solar Plexus will give you a better sense of who you are, what you stand for and where your boundaries lie. It may also give us a nudge if we're sacrificing our integrity to please another. It's also known to be our psychic alert system. You may get a sense that a particular situation isn't right or safe for you. Our Solar Plexus can let us know when we need to distance ourselves from a person or situation, though our fears and beliefs can also trigger false alarms. If you're ever in a situation where you don't know who (or what to trust), bring your attention up a notch to your Heart.
The Heart Chakra is known as the seat of unconditional love. It is the bridge between our lower and upper Chakras, integrating the information received from the physical world through the Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus with messages of love and divine guidance, typically accessible through the Throat, Brow and Crown Chakras. It can be helpful and empowering to ground from your Heart Chakra, sending a grounding chord from the Heart, down past the Root and into the Earth. This can make it easier for us to experience life and react to challenges from a place of love and trust, instead of fear. The Heart is also connected to our Higher Self or Soul. Check in with your Heart when you're looking for quick intuitive guidance on your life.

Once these four Earthly Chakras are strong, active and healthy we will have the energetic and physical foundations to channel information through the Throat, Brow and Crown. Those of us who are naturally oriented towards the upper Chakras may need to spend more time on the Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus so that we can give them a chance to catch up. Once this solid foundation is in place, you'll be able to access your intuition and channel it into the real world. How exciting!

The Throat Chakra is blue in color, linked to clairaudience. It governs communication and self-expression, whether we are communicating with our friends, family, angels or guides. I have always experienced my Throat Chakra like a little speaker in my voice box, and the loudest voice tends to be my own Inner Voice. When you let your intuition speak through your Throat you'll receive insights from your physical body, your angels, and spirit guides. Our spirit helpers tend to speak to us in our thoughts, so if your mind is going 100 miles an hour it can be hard for them to break through.
Mindfulness and meditation create quiet space for intuitive guidance to appear. The trick is to act on the guidance, keeping mind that ultimately you are responsible for your actions and their consequences. If the "guidance" makes you feel uneasy, just ignore it and ground, centre and protect yourself. The mind can play tricks on us, telling us what we want to believe or what we're scared of. Intuitive guidance is usually timely, helpful and it feels like a stroke of good luck or a blessing when we receive the word.
The Brow Chakra is one of the most exciting because it opens the door for clairvoyance to come into your life. This Chakra is usually seen as indigo in color and I would recommend letting it open up when it's ready to. It's not the only way to receive guidance, keep in mind that there are seven psychic abilities and only one of them is related to sight so you'll still receive information as words, hunches, emotions, tactile sensations and even taste or smell. For me clairvoyance has always been a game of Pictionary; my Mind's Eye will show images, pictures, cartoons, tarot cards, symbols or even scenes from movies and it's up to me to figure out what it means.
If you receive a message for someone else it's good to tell them exactly what you saw because the image may have significance. For example, I once gave a classmate a clairvoyant reading about a book she was writing and the last image was a lighthouse. I had no clue what it meant, but she identified the lighthouse as one of the potential cover designs. It resonated with her even though I had trouble explaining the image.
The Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head, you may feel your scalp tingling when it opens. This is where we draw in light, love and intuition from the Universe. When we channel healing or messages they enter our consciousness through the Crown, and travel down our central column through the Brow Chakra where they may manifest as images, or the Throat where they take the form of thoughts or words.
This light and knowledge can also reach the Heart Chakra and that's when we just know something. I like to draw on that energy and bring it all the way down to the Root Chakra so that I can work with it on a physical level too. Psychic and intuitive work involves clearing the path for these energies to flow freely along our central column to all of our Chakras, grounding, clearing and protecting ourselves with love and light.

There is another component to intuitive and energy work that I haven't touched on today, which is the Aura. Each of these Chakras has it's own Aura layer, and we can also receive information by activating our Aura and amplifying our listening skills. It's really important to close down by clearing and protecting our energy when we're done meditating, otherwise we may get a lot more than we bargained for. I hope this introduction to the Chakras was helpful. The Value of Mindfulness vs Meditation

Today I would like to talk about Mindfulness - essentially being present and focused in our daily lives, as opposed to Meditation, which  usually involves quieting the mind and focusing it for a brief period of time.

So for example, you could meditate for 20 minutes by listening to your breath, picturing a candle in your mind's eye or by following a guided meditation. I love meditations, especially when they talk us through healing mind, body and spirit. Or better yet, when we access our intuition to ask for guidance. Eventually the meditation has to come to an end and we bring ourselves back to our senses so we can go about our daily lives.

This is where Mindfulness comes into play. It's about hanging onto that sense of peace, awareness and grounding in our waking hours. In my case, it's usually about coming out of my cloud of thoughts so that I'm aware of my energy, my surroundings and my mind. A quick way to switch off our thoughts would be to focus on our breath as we go about our daily tasks. Another would be to take stock of your surroundings and your physical sensations. Is it warm? How do your clothes feel against your skin? What are the make and model of the cars that are parked on the street as you walk by. Listen for sounds of birds, traffic, etc. Our five senses can bring us into a moment of complete awareness.

Being mindful is also about noticing our thought patterns and staying in the moment, instead of getting lost in a daydream or worrying about the future. It can be hard to be present 24/7, but we can set reminders to bring us back. I recently asked for advice on Reddit and got a few wonderful suggestions:

  • Focus on your breath during the day, take deep breaths to calm down.
  • Set an alarm on your phone throughout the day and make a note of where your thoughts are. Take the opportunity to bring yourself back to the moment, and if you notice a thought pattern make sure to write it down. This may be what needs to be healed and released on a subconscious level.
  • Wear a mindfulness bracelet as a reminder. My version of this is to wear my watch on the wrong wrist one or two days a week. The odd physical sensation brings me back to the moment and also makes me more aware.
  • Start by sitting down to meditate for 15 minutes and then transition into a mindfulness meditation, where you focus your attention on something like housework, cooking or doing the dishes.

The end result is a welcome mental vacation because worrying, fretting and scenario planning can add a lot of stress to our lives. I really like Eckhart Tolle's approach to mindfulness and I'm a huge fan of his book, A New Earth. Tolle suggests that we can observe our thoughts to get some distance and slowly break the habit of worrying. Planning for our future and carefully reacting to changes is necessary, but constantly worrying about potential obstacles is not. It's also been said that 70/80/90% of the things we worry about never happen, and that life happens when we're in the moment, not wrapped up in our thoughts. So don't worry, be happy and be mindful and grateful for everything.

Psychic Astrology and the Soul

It's been ten days since my last blog post! I'm usually good at sitting down to write about my experiences. Last week I had an awful cold and I was locked up for days. It's finally worn off and I'm back to my summer of fun in London. At the moment I am taking three classes: angels, psychic astrology and tarot. So far I'm most intrigued by astrology as it's completely new for me. Unfortunately I missed the first class because of this awful cold, so I missed the introduction to the Zodiac signs but I hope I can catch up with some reading. Next week we are going to start looking at our birth charts. I'm curious about this because I have a lot of Aquarius. My sun is in Aquarius, and if you look at the nodes of the moon, my South Node (Past Life Sign) is also in Aquarius. I asked my Kabbalah teacher about this; I may have flunked the lessons I was supposed to learn last time, and here I am with Sun in Aquarius again.

In Astrology of the Soul, Jan Spiller tells us that our South Node reflects personality traits developed over many past lives. They come second nature us, creating a comfort zone that we need to balance out by adopting the qualities of our North Node sign - the exact opposite of our South Node. According to Jan Spiller's theory, I would be happier and more well rounded if I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and adopted behavioural traits that are common to Leo's, the opposite of Aquarius. It's been five years since I read the book and I could probably do with a refresher, but the gist of it was working closely with others, putting myself centre stage (instead of watching or coaching from the sidelines). Leo's like being at the heart of a group, whereas Aquarius does her own thing and won't necessarily wait for others.

I'm not sure how prominent the nodes are in most birth charts. The information in Spiller's book certainly resonated with me, but we haven't covered them in class yet. Instead we focused the zodiac signs and the planets. Personally, I've always been interested in astrology, but I shied away from it because it also felt like a never ending ocean of information (planets, houses, aspects, signs, etc). This class lasts 10 weeks and so far it's great, so hopefully I'll have a better understanding of the stars. Fingers crossed I will also be capable of reading a birth chart. Please drop by my Facebook page if you'd like a practice reading from an astrology newbie :-)

The Ace of Pentacles in my Life

My first week in London has been quiet, except for the cough that keeps pulling me out of my cold medicine-induced sleep. That's right! As soon as the jet lag wore off, the cold symptoms came. I even went to the doctor yesterday with a terrible sore throat. That didn't keep me from attending my first tarot class with Avril Price. It was loads of fun. There were about twelve students in the group, an equal split of men and women. Funny how tarot and mediumship draw more guys than say, angels, healing and crystals. We each pulled a card from our tarot decks and the group read them as an introduction. Mine was the Ace of Pentacles. The card represents my current situation: a new beginning, an influx of productivity, or an exciting project that I may not have stumbled upon just yet. Given the fact that I flew around the world to study intuition, healing and tarot this summer, sounds about right.

We also have an assignment that I'm already excited about! At the end of the term we each get to present a creative interpretation of the Major Arcana cards, linking them back to a theme of our choosing. I think I might do movie scenes, or just movies. For example, the naïveté of the Fool reminds me of Forrest Gump and how a character that is so innocently optimistic get's so far in life. The Emperor could be Russell Crowe's character in the Gladiator. Even if the character isn't an emperor, he certainly reflects the qualities of leadership, discipline and honour. The idea behind the assignment is to help us connect with the cards and give them three dimensional meanings. I like the idea of referencing movies in readings, it makes it easier to get the point across. Once upon a time, I gave a reading that included a scene from Pretty Woman. It's been one of my favorites, and it resonated with the lady who received it, too. It also happened to be her favourite scene from the movie.

There is also one humongous coincidence that I have to mention. If you're new to my blog, you won't know that I actually lived in London for five years. This is where I discovered energy healing, intuition, angels, all of it. A year and a half ago I moved back to Mexico City, my hometown, where I hope to stay. I'm only here for the summer, and it just so happens that I'm staying in the very same flat where I lived for three years. As a matter of fact, I'm sitting on the couch writing this post, and it's the same couch where I edited and revised my book, A Personal Guide to Self-Healing, Cancer & Love. Who would have thought this would be possible? I'm thanking my fairy godmother. This is also where I lived during my two years as a healing student. I still can't believe my luck, it feels like I'm time travelling and even being locked up with a cold here is pretty cool. This is one of those synchronicities that we just get to be very grateful for! This used to be my playground, as Madonna's song says, but I'm in a great mood so let's listen to something more up beat instead! I'm looking forward a summer of angels, intuition and friends!

Holiday, by Madonna

Book Review: Real Magic by Wayne Dyer

Wayne Dyer talks about purpose being the key to the universe in his book, Real Magic. The book has been sitting on my mom's shelf for a the past couple of years and every time I come home it winks at me. I finally caved a couple days ago and I haven't been able to put it down! The description on the back is though provoking because it hints at all of those things that so many of us want to achieve: successful relationships, careers, the big house, heaps of creativity, good health, etc. It hints at that famous rat race, and how we never seem to have enough. Where is this abundance that people talk about?

I had never read anything by Wayne Dyer and was expecting a how-to-get-rich-quick-with-visualisation book, like The Secret. Boy was I wrong! It has really tested my ego and opened up my eyes, especially when it comes to Dr Dyer's suggesting that we shift our career mindset from a "work-for-money-and-riches" point of view, to a "work for quality of life" attitude. His point is that as long as we are incentivised by the external status symbols like cars, big houses, travels, etc we will be limited by the physical world that we are so keen to master. And no matter how much we have, it will never be enough. Dr Dyer has a checklist of 12 attitudes that define spiritual living.

Here are the ones that resonated with me:

  • There is more to the world than what we see with our 5 senses.
  • Focus on the good you want to create, don't waste your energy fighting the bad things that we want to do away with.
  • Know that you can manifest miracles (I'm not quite there).

Finally, Know that your life has a purpose! Everything you do right will bring you closer to that purpose and it will also make you feel like a more fulfilled person. This book has quickly become one of my favourites, totally worth reading! I even gifted it to my sister. It's part of my year in magical training - how to manifest your best life. The video below is also a good one to watch, I hope you enjoy it!
