Opening to Channel - 2

This is the 2nd in a series on Channeling, click here for Part 1.

Today's topic is about releasing our fears and beliefs. There are many reasons why we would want to do this, here are a few (off the top of my head). We tend to worry about things that will never happen, or about things that have already happened. This creates an atmosphere of anxiety, worry and doubt that has little to do with reality. You might be scared that a partner will leave you, for example, because of relationships that have fallen apart in the past. These fears can influence our behavior, ironically creating tension that could in fact, lead to the end of what might have been a stable relationship.

Our fears and beliefs can also shape our experiences. My first channeling tutor, Roger Hanson, would tell us that there are no absolutes, except that whatever you believe to be true, is true for you. This parallels a magical hypothesis about individual realities. My unique and indivual belief is that healing is real, I can create or attract an event by thinking about it (or by fearing it). And that money is a pleasure to earn and spend. One can be grounded, spiritual, practical, safe and abundant. It's entirely possible.

I could write a book on this (and maybe I will one day!) but for now, let's talk about fears and beliefs as they relate to channeling. Books like Neal Donald Walsh's Conversations with God are said to be channeled by human beings who made contact with the spiritual world. The question is, who were they listening to? We each have a spirit/soul and a mind/ego. The soul has access to Divine Wisdom, to lessons learned in past lives, to our a Higher Self, etc. The mind can get in the way with self-doubt, worry and fears. If we try channeling without grounding ourselves in love and releasing those fears, it can be very easy for the fearful parts of our imagination to take the lead. The same is true for intuitive readings, automatic writing and even dreams. We can scare ourselves and others!

Luckily, we can work on healing and releasing our fears :-)

Beliefs are equally important. If we believe something is possible, we are more likely to succeed. Just about anything is possible if you check your beliefs at the door. Meditation and journaling are good ways to do this, but first, let's talk about grounding, connecting and energetic protection. Whether you're channeling your feelings, your inner wisdom or your spirit guides and angels, it's best to be grounded, centred and protected. Same is true for any kind of psychic reading. Stay tuned!

Opening to Channel - 1

I have great news! The teacher from last week's channeling class agreed to do a guest post on his technique (or to read my write-up and give feedback on it). The class was simple but effective and I am keen to share the details with you. The post won't be ready for a little while, so I thought it best to start with a little  background on grounding, connecting and channeling in general.

Before I left London, I took a wonderful class at the School of Intuition and Healing called Opening to Channel, by Roger Hanson. The course lasted eight weeks and Roger took us through several steps of preparation before we got to channeling. The first was learning to work with your chakras and energy body. This prepares us to channel energy that could otherwise overwhelm us. It is always good to start with the basics and I expect most tutors include this step.

There are lots of decent chakra meditations. My personal favorite is a Grounding, Centering and Claiming Your Space meditation by Elliot Jay Tanzer. It talks us through running earth energy through the body, sensing and clearing each chakra and opening up. It also has a non New Agey feel to it. When I was starting out with readings and healing, I did the full 30 minute meditation once a week as well as a shorter run-through every night.

The next step in the channeling process is to consciously work on releasing our fears, hang ups and "woulda, coulda, shoulda's." Otherwise, it is easy to fall into the trap of channeling the things that we are afraid of. And also things that we might feel guilty about. The goal is to channel from a place of love and trust so that we can tap into the loving and powerful wisdom in the universe.

To do that we ground our physical body in love and/or nature, and raise our vibration so that anything less than divine is filtered out. The class I took here in Mexico included a similar purification step. In my next Channeling post I will talk about opening up, closing down, and setting aside fears. The practice is useful for daily life. I would also suggest it before doing any readings, channeling, etc.

A New Psychic School?

I am mostly thrilled to be back in Mexico, and though I miss my London friends, I also miss my healing and psychic schools. It was pretty amazing having somewhere to go every week where you could practice readings, remote viewing and healing. Of course, I am sure there are similar spiritual groups in Mexico, I just have to find them.

This weekend I went to a channeling workshop (yay!) that was good fun. A friend of mine actually taught the class. We met six years ago when our business school put us in touch, he had a business idea and was looking for a partner. I was job hunting. As it turned out, I quit my job and moved to London where I found a new job (and a Healing school lol).

Quite a few of my Mexican friends have found their way into energy healing, channeling, working with guides, etc. Its funny how we're on similar paths. I'd love to attend a psychic school here. Most workshops are done at people's houses, which is OK, but I love having a catalog to choose from.

Yesterday's class was pretty cool and very helpful, I will write up the technique in my next post :-) If you would like to try it out, buy three white candles and keep an empty cup on stand by for an impromptu channeling session.

Invisibility Spells and Magick

There are times when I would love to be invisible. Stop lights are one of them, especially in Mexico City. It's not uncommon to see a street kid standing on a corner with a squirty soap bottle and a sponge, ready to pounce when the light turns red. They clean your windshield, even if the car has just been washed (or if their friend "cleaned" it just a few streets back). It is like you're being forced to hand over change, and even though I am sure they need the money, the experience is not fun.

Last week I drove through three of these intersections on my way to the osteopath. I groaned when I saw four guys descend on the car ahead of me, dreading the moment when they'd turn their attention to me. That moment never came. They finished squirting and wiping, stood next to me for a minute (looking the other way) and picked another car. The same thing happened at the next light. And the next.

So what happened?

Reiki happened! Last week I read a book by Christopher Penczak called The Magick of Reiki. It covers a lot of topics, mostly related to reiki, healing, crystals, flower remedies, herbs, etc. The author also mentions using reiki symbols and energy to help yourself with reiki "spells."

The book goes into lots of detail on protective circles, formulating an intention and then using reiki, visualisation and certain tools to carry it out. I have never been very theatrical so I adapted the "protection spell" and completed a short meditation to make myself invisible to certain people (helpful if you want to stay safe in a country that's not known for it's safety). I visualised an invisibility cloak around myself and intended for it to deflect unwanted attention. Mentally, I imagined a little magic and some sprinkles on the protective cloak. The meditation worked!

More on that later...

It was a fun experiment. I feel like I did when I was just starting out with angel cards, tarot and readings. You want to believe the results are more than coincidences, but you also wonder if you're reading too much into a situation. At this stage it is vital to suspend your disbelief and see where it takes you. The same is true for magic and energy work in general. Trust is a huge factor.

Ascension through Grounding

I am reading a new book called Ascension Magic by Christopher Penzack. He also wrote Magical Reiki, my favorite Reiki book so far. I like to consider myself a healer and know next to nothing about Ascension or why it matters. The impression I have so far is that some people may want to ascend their way out of the pain and suffering experienced on Earth. Fair enough ...

Buddha, Mother Mary and other spiritual figures are said to have ascended. Same is true for all of the Ascended Masters. The very word implies an upwards motion, but my gut feeling is that in my case, I will "ascend" by grounding myself. Spirituality doesn't have to be about escapism. On some level, that is what Christianity promises: behave, and whatever you are missing now will be rewarded later. Though of course, it also encourages us to do good now.

So what is grounding

For me, it is deciding to live in the present moment, on earth, not thinking about the future or holding out for a better time or place (a beach holiday, the Pleiades or the mythical land of Avalon). On an energetic level, this translates to being fully grounded in the body and in the moment. In energy healing and spiritual circles, it’s common to meet people whose attention is elsewhere. Myself included.

This is where we're supposed to be. We can begin to heal when we accept that, and realize that material and/or fear based pursuits aren't all they have cracked up to be. There has to be another way to live our lives. The Black Eyed Peace sang it best.

2024 Update: I just added the song. Let’s ground ourselves from the heart chakra and work with what is real to make it better.

Regina

Miracles, Ribbons and San Charbel

A couple weeks ago I went to Mexico City's basilica. It always strikes me how fervent Mexico is when it comes to asking Mother Mary for miracles. The basilica is built on the site of the Lady of Guadalupe's apparition to Juan Diego, an indigenous peasant who was probably the first Mexican saint (according to the church, I am sure there were plenty of spiritual people in pre-Colombian Latin America). I wonder if asking for miracles is a Catholic,  Latin or a human thing.

People pray for miracles when they feel powerless to exert any influence over their life. I would like to think of us as co-creators when it comes to shaping our lives and attracting happy coincidences, miracles and the like. This year I started reading A Course in Miracles on January 1st, a step by step guide to conditioning your mind so that you can see love instead of fear. So far, so good.

It would be wonderful to work miracles ourselves, but I don't think we can (or need to) do it alone. Wanting that could even be more of an ego trip. I like asking for help with just about anything: finding a house, a job, adopting a dog, etc. My favorite are the archangels and they can point us in the right direction. They can also help us remove the blinders that keep us from seeing the answer. How many times have you looked for something only to discover that it was right under your nose? Selective blindness is one of our biggest hurdles.

I prefer the angels but a lot of people reach out to saints, ascended masters and other guides. In Mexico, a Lebanese saint by the name of Charbel has become very popular thanks to the sheer volume of miracles that he has granted. When you walk into a church, his statue is covered with different colored ribbons for all of the favors that have been asked. When the problem is resolved, a white ribbon is added. You can hardly see the statue because of all the ribbons. Super colorful.

I'm half Lebanese, so Charbel's image has always been around. Here is a picture, if it resonates he could be a good one for you to reach out to. Meditate on it for a bit and see how it feels.
