What is Energy Healing?

This post covers the basics of energy healing and intuition through the Chakras. Scroll down for my book on creative healing, intuition and crystal magick! ❤️ Reiki hugs, Regina

What is Energy Healing?

Energy Healing takes into account the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of health & wellness. It relies on an intuitive connection with the body as well spiritual energy which is channeled through the Aura and Chakras, whirling through their themes and experiences. This aligns us with a sense of peace and flow in life.

The technique itself is simple, relying on Intention and visualization to activate the flow of energy. Below you will find an intro to the Energy Body and a meditation.

Please Note: Energy Healing is complementary to medical care, not alternative.

The Human Aura

The Aura is the energy field that surrounds our body. You may be able to feel it as heat emanating from the physical body and there are now special cameras that are able to photograph it. Beyond this, we also know that there are layers to the Aura and each of these stores particular experiences and information.

There are at least 12 layers to the Aura, but to keep it simple, let's think of 4 big layers. The Physical layer relates to the material world and how we experience it. The Emotional and Mental Aura layers are were our emotions, thoughts and beliefs are held. And finally, the Spiritual Aura layer relates to the soul, past lives and ancestors.

We can strengthen the Aura, which then makes it easier for us to set healthy boundaries. This has a direct impact on how comfortable we feel with our intuition and in our relationships.

The Aura

The Chakras

I am going to keep this short and sweet as I've written an entire book on the Chakras (read it here). Chakras are energy centres in our auric field that run through our body front to back, extending about 3 feet in either direction when fully activated. In resting mode, the Chakras sit closer to the physical body. The fluidity of our Chakras is influenced by our thoughts, actions, and experiences. Our Chakras also filter the energy that we send out into the world, and the energy that we take in. Each of our Chakras is linked to a different life function and a specific set of organs.

  • The Crown Chakra is our connection to Spirit, God, and intuitive guidance. It extends upwards out of the top of your head. When it opens you may feel a prickly sensation on your scalp.
  • The Brow Chakra is linked to the mind, also our sight, thoughts, and analytical capabilities. It is level with your forehead and sits perpendicular to your spine. Clairvoyance and imagination relate to this Chakra.
  • The Throat Chakra should be easy to locate! It has to do with communication and governs both our listening and speaking skills. A well developed and protected Throat Chakra will also help you hear your angels and guides.
  • The Heart Chakra is our centre of love, both romantic and platonic or familial. A healthy Heart Chakra will enable you to feel loved, supported and cared for in this world. It is also the gateway for abundance, receiving and sharing it.
  • Solar Plexus Chakra: I love this Chakra! It is linked to the ego, but it is also linked our personality. The Solar Plexus holds our personal identity, and that is a wonderful aspect that needs to be celebrated and encouraged. It is our center of power and outwards focus. Too much SP can also be a problem though so don't let it go wild.  =)
  • The Sacral Chakra is linked to our creative drive and passion in the world, as well as our sense of abundance. It is connected to the emotional Aura layer and is the Chakra through which we have energetic and/or emotional exchanges with other people. This is the center of passion and everything that we have an appetite for. Empaths who feel other's pain too easily may put on weight here as a physical form of protection. Where is it? The tummy!
  • The Root Chakra is linked to community, safety, grounding, and feelings of economic and material stability. It is located at the base of the spine and runs down through your legs if you are in standing position.
  • The Earth Star Chakra is likely my favorite. If you are sitting or standing, you'll find it about 10 inches below your feet in the ground. Traditionally seen as brown or black in color, it connects us with Mother Earth and makes it easier for us to feel spiritual energy in plants, rivers, crystals and other natural elements. The higher realms open up to us when we connect with the Earth Star as it gives much needed grounding.

Below is a rough guide of where they are located:

Living from the Heart...

On a subconscious level we each tend to keep our energy in a particular part of the body. People who overthink things spend a lot of time in the Brow Chakra. This won't necessarily lead to the right answer. People who see life clearly are gifted with a well developed and clear Brow Chakra. Things just make sense. For things to make sense, we may need to adopt an impartial frame of mind. And hopefully one in which we are also attuned to that higher guidance from our guides, angels, and Higher Self. Most of the books and classes I've taken point to the Heart Chakra as the "right" place to be centered. Our Heart Chakra is directly linked to our Crown Chakra which gives us that access, but also our Root Chakra which keeps us connected to earthly matters.

To center from the Heart, visualize pink or green light in your Heart Chakra and send a ray of light down to the center of the Earth. See and feel it connecting with a Rose Quartz and let that crystal’s energy flow up to meet you. Wrap yourself in that loving energy - bringing your Aura close around your body. Send any excess feelings or emotions into the ground.

Getting Past The Magical Learning Curve

The past six months I’ve been taking part in a spiritual circle where we study a variety of topics ranging from healing to astrology, and most recently, how to create a magick wand. This week’s homework involved making use of the New Moon to find a suitable wand and attune it to your energy. I had one already that, oddly enough, used to be part of a set of chopsticks (though I never used it to eat, LOL!)

The funny thing about magick wands is they do work, as I discovered when I tried to activate a carnelian crystal with the help of my wand a few years ago. Wands are associated with the element of Fire, and that fiery energy flows through the wand into our physical reality. I don’t know what I was thinking (probably that the wand wouldn't do anything) and I held the crystal in my left hand and pointed the wand at it. After a few seconds I felt a burning sensation in my palm and I had to stop what I was doing. My mistake! One that I learned from quickly.

For months after that day, whenever I thought about the wand or that “rookie mistake,” my palm would start to hurt all over again. It was like the memory triggered the sensation. Not unlike Harry Potter’s scar, the one on his forehead, and how it was triggered whenever he thought about the person who created it. But as an energy healer, I couldn’t leave the psychic wound in my palm and eventually I stumbled across a crystal that can be used to repair tears in the energy field: Fluorite. A few months after the incident, I healed the tear by placing a fluorite crystal in my left palm, using my right to heal my energy field with Reiki. It worked - my left hand is healed!

While that experience was the result of improper use of magical wands, it made me think about emotional wounds. When we think about pain from the past, we relive it. Rather than dwell on the past or bury it, we can work with energy healing and crystals to heal it. Send love to the part of yourself that feels hurt, without pressuring it to heal. The feeling will slowly melt away.

If you haven't read Chakra Healing & Magick, I’d encourage you to go through the creative healing techniques slowly - healing every aspect of your life through the Chakras before approaching the chapters on crystal magick.
The book relies on energy healing to peel back layers of doubt and false beliefs so that we can let our inner light shine brightly in the world.

Open Your Heart With Rose Quartz

I tend to write about healing techniques as I try them out and a few months ago, I was meditating with a Rose Quartz Crystal when I suddenly felt the urge to hold it in my hands and circulate its warm, loving and healing energy through my arms. The feeling was that by doing this, I could also intend for it to flow through my Heart Chakra. Instantly I felt like it opened my Heart Chakra, making it easier for me to give and receive love which is a key step in opening ourselves up to abundance of all kinds. I should also mention that I began by grounding myself, as I always do

If you have a rose quartz please try this at home - if you don't you can still do this meditation by visualizing a huge rose stone in the center of the earth and bringing its energy up through your legs, to your heart, and then circling it through your arms.

I am still figuring out the tech details for my video blog but I will be recording quite a few of these to complement my Chakra Healing & Magick bookRead it and please follow me on YouTube!

The Affirmation Coloring Book by Louise Hay (Review)

I turned thirty six last week! My third Jupiter Return is something to celebrate and hopefully it will send me into the future with a lot more oomph. My favorite presents this year were the goodies in the picture to your left: an Affirmations Coloring Book by Hay House, the Chrysalis Tarot deck and a neat little tarot bag with a yin-yang sign on the cover.

The tarot deck I was expecting and I love it; the past couple of months I had been using the iPhone app so I already knew how beautiful the cards were. The coloring book was a complete surprise and I have already spent at least a few hours filling in the mandalas while reciting the affirmations that go with them. The coloring book was created by Louise Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life, and Alberta Hutchinson, a mandala artist and author.

The funny thing about coloring books is they take you back to childhood, when things didn't have to be perfect to be beautiful (This might be the Virgo in me speaking up). At first I was stressing, yes stressing, over the colors I wanted to use and if they would match. My first task was to color in the border around the affirmation, I Breathe in Love and I Flow with Life. Blue is one of my favorite colors so I used that on one of the threads that weaves all around the page. Then I wanted to use a second color to interweave with that one and I reached for purple. I colored in one link, decided I didn't like it, and reached for green, then red, then turquoise. Eventually I decided to alternate between the lot of them, and the final result was even prettier than I had imagined. Mistakes can be beautiful too, and art (if you call coloring art) doesn't have to be perfect to be your very own masterpiece. This whole time I went on repeating the affirmation while consciously breathing in love and breathing out stress. The end result is one that I was pleased with.

Anyhooo, I thought I would share my experience, if anyone wants to work with mandalas or affirmations. Until now I had only done repetitions, following the suggestions on the popular psychic blog A State of Mind. I have to confess that I prefer the coloring book because it is more fun, and it feels like you are coloring the affirmation into your subconscious. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

Here is my Finished Mandala! =)
