A Personal Guide to Self-Healing, Cancer & Love

I’m pleased to share my book with you: A Personal Guide to Self-Healing, Cancer & Love. Read it and learn to channel energy healing - whether it’s peace, emotional support or perspective that you seek.

My intention for this book was to create a short Energy Healing guide for cancer patients. The idea was to share my family’s experience with cancer - how it changed our lives - and to share the perspective I have gained since then through my own healing journey. I also wanted to give others a chance to apply some of the techniques from my energy healing studies.

The end result was more expansive, looking at a variety of risk factors that we can influence: diet, weight, smoking, lifestyle, alcohol and even genetics. And how energy healing, meditation and other techniques are needed to help the whole family cope with feelings of fear, grief and anger after a cancer diagnosis.

Energy Healing & the Role of Complementary Therapies

Energy Healing involves guided meditations through the Aura, the Chakras and the body. The general theory is that spiritual energy flows through the mental (beliefs), emotional and physical layers in the Aura, releasing stress and facilitating the body’s natural healing process. This book will give you the tools to practice energy healing yourself, though in difficult situations, it would help to visit a qualified healer.

Energy healing is complementary to medical care, not alternative. Please note that it is NOT a treatment for cancer, even if we do visualize health in energy healing sessions. Energy Healing helps in many ways that go beyond the physical.

Benefits for the patient:
  • Relaxation, stress relief and an emotional outlet.
  • Some patients report increased energy levels, making it easier for them to maintain quality of life through chemotherapy treatments.
  • Healing can also help terminal cancer patients draw on their inner strength, allowing them to face their fears and move on peacefully.
  • The peace and stillness felt during an Energy Healing session allow their intuition to speak to them, giving clarity on the challenges faced.
  • Energy Healing can also give the patient a fresh perspective on life.

Benefits for the family:
  • Self-Healing can be used to manage their grief, shock and stress.
  • It releases the emotional stress and burden in a healthy, productive way.
  • Engaging with self-healing can help family members stay mentally and emotionally clear, which will do a lot for their well-being.
  • By learning to give Energy Healing, family members can play an active role in the cancer patient’s healing process. I describe this in detail, as there are important health and safety considerations for the Healer.

Clairaudience and Psychic Sounds

This is my 400th blog post! I can't believe it! =)

I thought it would be cool to focus on clairaudience today, the psychic sense that I was most excited about when I started blogging. It's about sound, listening to our guides, etc. Clairaudience is also one of the seven senses that I introduced on last week's A1R Psychic Radio show. As you may have guessed, clairaudience is when we receive intuitive messages in the forms of words or sentences, essentially messages that we hear. Song lyrics also come to mind. It helps to keep our mind relaxed, otherwise our guides have to make a huge effort to cut through the chatter.

Here's an example of a clairaudient message and how it might help us. A few days ago I was getting ready for an energy healing session. My first session with this client was spectacular. She came in with an old sports injury that had been bothering her for two years (she played through the pain), and the pain vanished two days after the healing session. I don't know who was more surprised, my skeptical client or myself! She went away a complete believer =)

Yesterday she came back with a new (minor) injury in her lower back. Could I give her healing? She was travelling in a few days and had to be in tip-top shape. I agreed to see her, but I couldn't promise anything. Finally the moment came when she was lying on the couch waiting for the healing to begin. I was a little bit nervous, I didn't want to let her down but I didn't know what I had done "right" last time. My ego started acting up, putting pressure on me, when the words NO EXPECTATIONS flashed across my mind. That was the attitude I had to adopt during the session. It was a reminder from my guides that as a healer, I am just a channel for the energy. And that I should go with my usual "anything goes" approach. I put any thoughts of success or failure to one side. The "NO EXPECTATIONS" cue had me check my ego at the door, so that the lovely reiki energy could flow without any interference.

Today I sent her a message, asking how she felt. Funny enough her lower back didn't hurt anymore, but the pain shifted to her leg, indicating that we still need to do some work with the flow of energy in her body. Rather than suggest another Reiki session, I suggested that she follow a grounding meditation: bringing earth energy up through her left leg, across her hips and then down her right leg into the ground. This should help to reestablish the flow of energy in her body, so that she can release what no longer serves her. In this case a bit of self-healing will also come in handy. We can all learn to heal ourselves (click here for my Self-Healing book). From a complementary healing point of view, it's also worth mentioning that this was a minor muscle strain. I am not a physical therapist and Reiki isn't a replacement for treatment.

Intuitive Healing Cards? Yes please!

I use oracle cards all the time for readings, usually the Angel Tarot deck. The messages I receive won't always relate to the description on the card; they are triggered by a visual cue that takes me somewhere else. By now I've probably given hundreds of readings on Facebook over the past few years.

Yesterday I had an idea, what if I took the "healing element" in those readings and translated them into my very own intuitive healing deck? I might just start with a pack of blank index cards, write the message on one side and draw stick figures on the other. Pictograms are the best I can do, but the image will be clear in my mind.

Down the road, I will find someone to illustrate the cards, but for now it will be good to use them myself and experiment with the images, concepts, etc. So that's on the horizon! I could also share them on here and on Facebook if they are pretty. I'll start with one or two images each week and take it from there. =)

I also pulled a card for myself to get a bit more insight on this idea. The image that came up referenced wisdom; it tells me that I'll be able to access my soul's wisdom by creating these. Inspiration comes when we're being creative and this may be the step that I have to take now.

The Seven Psychic Senses

It's time to write about a topic that I should have covered years ago: Psychic Abilities! Last week I wrote about intuition: what it is and how it helps (also where it comes from). We can all use meditation, crystals and other tools to develop our psychic senses, making it easier for us to notice our intuition. So far I have come across seven: clairvoyance, sound, touch, smell, taste, emotional empathy and "just knowing." Some people call them skills or gifts. In my experience it has been a mix of both. We can use guided meditations to develop all of these senses, but most of us will be naturally gifted in one of them. And we don’t get to choose the “psychic sense” we are good at. It's a surprise!

In my case, clairvoyance was the quickest to develop, I tend to get a combination of images, symbols, colors, even cartoons and movie clips running through my mind. Tarot also works for me because of the imagery. Clairvoyance can be like playing Pictionary, someone draws an image and you have to guess what they are trying to say. Sometimes I wish I could just hear the message and be done with it. But it wouldn't be nearly as much fun. To give an example, a couple years ago I was giving readings in class, and I got a series of apples: Snow White’s Poisoned Apple, indicating that our guest that week was not in a particularly trusting mood. Adam and Eve’s Apple, referencing the Tree of Life and mystical spirituality, and finally Steve Job’s and Isaac’s Newton’s apples, essentially two apples that changed the world. I described each of the apples carefully, adding my interpretations and inviting our guest to do the same. Wow! That reading was about a deep personal transformation.

Clairvoyance is accessed through the Brow Chakra, which is also linked to telepathy. It is possible to sense other people’s thoughts and concerns, but both parties have to be energetically open and available. I learned a technique at school called mind transference, where we send visuals, colors and images from Brow Chakra to Brow Chakra. The receiver would write down what they got and we compared notes at the end. It was a lot of fun! And in that case at least 80% accurate. We can also get a sense of our clients persistent thoughts & feelings through the aura. These can be incredibly useful for Energy Healers, it gives us an idea of what to focus during a session. Otherwise, I’d suggest grounding and protecting your energy to desensitize it, because hearing people's thoughts can be awkward. =)

The most common skills are probably Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, Emotional Empathy, and Just Knowing. Fragrances do come through a lot in mediumship readings. I am most familiar with clairvoyance, but this is how I experience the others:

  • Clairaudience is when answers come as thoughts, or words. If you ask a question you’ll get a yes or no answer, maybe a short phrase. Its related to the THROAT Chakra. Taste & Smell are less common.
  • Emotional Empathy is when we know what other people are feeling. This information is accessed through our Sacral Chakra and the emotional Aura layer. It makes it easier to relate emotionally.
  • Clair-Cognizance: is when we just know something for no reason. It is filtered through our Heart Chakra. This may be the skill that people think of when they hear the word psychic. Some assume it means we think we know everything, but we only "know" the information we are given.

I tend to get a mix of all of these, with the bulk coming through clairvoyantly. If you'd like to develop your own psychic gifts, Elliot Jay Tanzer has an excellent meditation (available for 99 cents on Amazon). It takes us through grounding the body, before starting at the Root Chakra and working our way up to clear, balance and activate each of these. Even though most of the psychic abilities are accessed through the upper chakras, we need strong foundations and very strong grounding in place first. I am also going to be teaching weekly lessons via Google Hangouts, for those of you who want to learn in a group setting. Look for the Online Lessons Tab above, for details!

Connecting with the Formless

I went for a long walk along Paseo de la Reforma today, one of the main avenues in Mexico City. The mayors office closes it on Sundays so that pedestrians and cyclists can enjoy the sights. It may be the only activity where people from all backgrounds come together. There are also free meditation, dance and yoga classes at different points. I took my five month old yorkie puppy for a long walk while the rest of my family rode their bikes on Reforma.

It was hot, I was tired and thirsty (so was the puppy), so I stopped for an iced coffee near the Angel of Independence. I sat down to write a few thoughts while my puppy tangled herself around the table legs with her leash. The past few weeks I've been thinking about how atheists have it right. Does God exist or is He just a concept we've come up with to make sense of things? There are so many religions, belief systems, etc. What is the chance that anyone is "right"?

Then I started thinking about the possibility that nothing we believe in matters. Not even our own identities, what we think of ourselves or the rest of the world. The universe is massive, if other dimensions exist then our "planet" is even smaller and more insignificant than we think. And that our lives, our struggles, etc, are just a drop in an endless ocean. Or a speck of light in an endless light.

It felt right to connect with that formlessness. To lose myself in it. Any concept of a human ego is irrelevant against the backdrop of that nothingness. What other people think of me, what I think of myself, what I think of my book and if anyone agrees with what I've written. My concept of angels, guides and intuition also disappears. It sounds crazy but connecting with that formlessness makes me feel more 'confident' than I've ever been, because the concept of right and wrong ceases to exist. I don't feel the need to label my experiences. Life is what it is and none of the things I worry about matter. With this as a starting point, anything is possible. It's the beginning ...

Where does intuition come from?

My Facebook Friends chose this week's topic: Intuition.
Some even volunteered personal stories. Thank you so much for your help! =)

What is Intuition?

The dictionary refers to Intuition as "a feeling that makes a person act a certain way without fully understanding why?" Webster's Dictionary also references "a natural ability or a power that makes it possible for us to know something without proof or evidence." A hunch, if you will. Both of these definitions resonate with me. The only thing I would add, is that intuition comes to us as a series of extrasensory messages. I honestly believe we are being given the answers, all the time. Every now and then we get a head's up too. The more we listen to these messages, the easier it is for us to navigate our way through life. But where does this information come from? Who sends the message? As far as I can tell, Intuition has two main sources: our guides and angels, and our Soul.

1)  Angels and Spirit Helpers: We all have a team of angels & guides looking out for us. They send messages, coincidences and direction to help us out. They can also send people to intervene on our behalf. Sometimes they give us direct messages (advice), other times they show us kindness when we need it most.

This was the case with one of my Facebook friends. Let's call her Lucy. A few days ago she was getting ready to leave for her history class. She was almost out the door, when a little voice told her that it would be a good day to stay home. Lucy decided to skip class. Her upstairs neighbour fell down and hurt herself (or himself?!?). They were home alone, and Lucy was there to help. Its worth mentioning that the reason only became apparent after the fall, as is often the case with our intuitive hunches. Our special team talks to us through thoughts, feelings, visions and also through other people. Next week, we'll talk about psychic skills you can develop to receive these messages, loud and clear.

2) Our Higher Self (Our Soul) is the 2nd source of intuition. We have a huge amount of common sense stored away, even forgotten. By listening to our body, we can tap into the wisdom that's tucked away in our subconscious. The Soul is the repository of everything we have lived and been in multiple lives, whereas I feel that the Higher Self is the wisdom or awareness above that, guiding our steps

This is how we can go about it:

We all have an energy body, it consists of our Aura and Chakra, which are continuously scanning the outside world for information. Whenever we walk into a new situation or meet a new person, our energy scans theirs and makes an assessment. Are they trustworthy, honest and genuine? Would we get along? Is this someone I want to spend my time with, etc. That information is filtered through the Chakras to the physical body, who sends us signs. You might get good vibes from one person. Another makes us feel uneasy and we don't know why. If our energy was clear to begin with, we can trust those vibes. These intuitive feelings can register anywhere, but the Solar Plexus is a common spot.

Another one of my lovely Facebook Friends volunteered an anecdote to illustrate this point (thank you Kassandra!). Her intuition is in her gut (not uncommon!) and when someone tells a big lie, she gets sick to her stomach. It only goes away when she uncovers the truth. This is probably extreme, but lots of us get funny feelings in our stomachs when something is off kilter. These gut feelings are tied into the Solar Plexus's role as an intuitive alert system. Its also the Chakra through which we handle negotiations and power struggles with other people. So long as our energy is clear, grounded and protected, listening to those intuitive hunches is probably a good idea. We can also work on clearing and healing our Brow and Solar Plexus Chakras of fears that trigger "false alarms."  Try this Stress Relief Meditation to learn how!
