Awakening of the Illuminated Heart (ATIH)

A couple weeks ago I attended a lecture at the Kabbalah Centre where the teacher discussed the importance of opening our Hearts (and minds) to the wisdom in others. It's easy to fall into the ego trap of thinking that a particular person has little to teach us, maybe it's someone with a "lower consciousness" (total ego trap) or less prestige, etc. The truth is we can learn things about ourselves and life from everyone and anyone. When we think about that, the Aha! Moments start appearing en masse.

I usually shy away from certain New Age themes, but last week I went to a heart healing workshop that was wonderful, even if many of the teacher's beliefs about how we humans came to be are diametrically opposed to my own. There were lots of things that made sense and I’d like to cover them all, but the class was too darn long.

Here are the highlights:

  • The class is called Taller DESI in Mexico (in the USA, Awakening of the Illuminated Heart by The School of Remembering). It looks at healing the emotional body so we can bring our energy into the present. Out of the mind and to the Heart, where we can listen to our intuition and use the mind's analytical skills to iron out the details. "Follow your Heart but take your brain with you" (Alfred Adler)
  • Among other things, we went through a number of meditations that made it very easy for us to connect with Nature, with the Universe and then to center in the Heart, using its energy to create the life we deserve. This co-creation idea resonates with me 100% and I've already written loads on manifesting here, here, here and here. I'll be experimenting with this technique the next few weeks, so stay tuned! To learn the Illuminated Heart's process yourself, sign up for a class or read Drunvalo Melchizedek's' book: Living in the Heart: How to Enter into the Sacred Space within the Heart.
  • The technique involves New Age concepts like the Merkaba, Ascension and other ideas that I was fuzzy on prior to the class. The way I understand it, personal ascension means that we become more zen in our approach to life. You put things in perspective, ground yourself and are less likely to be shaken up by events that might have been stressful before. There's also a global aspect to this, which is when enough of us have become peaceful, collaborative, conscious and proactive, that we're not creating chaos anymore. This resonates as all of my posts leading up to the New Year were on the role we play in achieving peace and prosperity on Earth. It's on all of us, quite literally.
  • This workshop was run by Carlos Cassillas and Paola Marquez, two fantastic teachers who have both been certified by The School of Remembering in Arizona. Thank you both for a wonderful workshop!

My favorite exercise was one where we connected with our Inner Heart. It's not unlike the GAPP process that I learned at the School of Intuition and Healing. You ground yourself in Mother Nature, connect with the Universe and then centre in the heart. In Healing School, the goal is to draw on healing energies from both sources and channel them to the client, whereas Drunvalo's idea is to connect with both, ground in the heart and stay there. We were supposed to receive an influx of love from the universe, but instead I felt like it wanted to give me power. Creative power, manifesting power, who knows? It made me nervous and I didn't want to receive it. What if I hurt someone? This made me think of a book I read last year: The Essential Dalai Lama. In one of his essays, the Dalai Lama mentions that we block our creative power because we are scared of what we might do. This is why Buddhism encourages compassion and mindfulness; our thoughts have consequences. The idea is to plant a conscious seed so that we generate positive karma in our lives and our communities. There are plenty of similarities between Kabbalah, Positive Karma and this Ascensionist co-creation. Maybe this is where I need to focus my attention.

If you'd like to learn these techniques for yourself, there are certified teachers all over the world. Find them through the School of Remembering's website, or read Drunvalo's book, Living in the Heart. If you live in Mexico, visit Taller DECI's Facebook Page for available sessions. The theory behind the techniques reads like science fiction, but the techniques themselves have been a blessing.

I'm writing for OM TIMES Magazine!

It has been two weeks since my last post and I have plenty of material to make up for it. Funny how things come together sometimes; I've had three big firsts this week! My first and second published magazine articles went live with OM TIMES MAGAZINE the past week or so. One of them even landed on the cover next to the beautifully talented Colette Baron-Reid! See here for 7 Ways to Make Your Guardian Angel's Job Easier. You'll learn how to connect with your Guardian Angel and make full use of his or her angelic powers.

OM TIMES Magazine also published another article that I would love for you to read, called Self-Healing, Cancer and Forgiveness. Here we look at how the physical body stores emotions, and why it's so important to start with our self-healing journey while we are still healthy. This article picks up where my Self-Healing, Cancer & Love book left off, encouraging us to make healing a part of our daily lives.

Finally, the last "first" is a Guest Post on TinyBuddha.com, a spiritual blog with "simple wisdom for complex lives". The website is run by a lovely lady named Lori. She's brought together a community of friendly and enthusiastic folks. It's a fantastic place to go if you are looking for inspiration or support. This particular post is on an enjoyable (and patient) approach to weight loss, offering an alternative to the vicious cycle of endless diets. It addresses self-healing, especially when anxiety fuels our cravings. Read it here!

Water Blessing Meditation

Detoxes are in vogue these days. I myself tried to go an entire month without sugar this January and lasted a whole 21 days! While there are enormous benefits to passing on sugar, my gut feeling is that the best detox we can give our body is to drink plenty of water, day in and day out. It flushes out toxins and keeps us well hydrated. Clean water is something to be incredibly grateful for, even though most of us in the developed world probably take it for granted. That may change in a few decades if we don't take better care of our planet.

Water is also vital for those of us who practice Reiki, Intuitive Readings or Energy Healing. According to the psychic development blog, A State of Mind, intuitive energies travel through the physical body, using our water reserves as a conduit. That's why it's even more important for healers to drink lots of water, it keeps us fresh and ready to take on new case studies!

This is one way to look at it: drink water to replenish your intuitive energy levels. We can infuse our drinking water with healing energy to heal ourselves, intending for the water clear and release emotions that are held at a cellular level. This can be done effortlessly with a Reiki II class, though we can also use a simple water blessing meditation if we haven't been attuned to Reiki. We can add a bit of fruit, for example, yellow to boost the Solar Plexus Chakra (that burst of happiness is something I often feel with Reiki sessions).

Both meditative techniques are equally effective, it is the Intention and that counts. Just follow these steps to program your water:

  • Formulate Your Intention. Think about what you would like to accomplish with this healing. Are you uncovering your Chiron Wound or maybe, you'd like to heal your Inner Child and let go of any residual grief, confusion or stress from your early years. We can also ask for healing to follow our Highest Good, and let any issues surface when the moment is right, through our thoughts and feelings.
  • Clear Your Working Space. Get yourself a glass of water, and sit down in a quiet and comfortable place, feet on the floor and a glass of water on a table nearby. Close your eyes and visualize a white healing light coming down from the Heavens, through the roof and filling the room that you are in. This white light clears and protects the space around you so that only high-level energy can come in.
  • Ground Yourself in Mother Nature. Visualize tree roots growing out of the bottoms of your feet, into the ground. Intend for the roots to cut through layers of cement, dirt, rock, and molten lava until they reach the center of the earth and dig in. You may see a crystal formation there, let your roots wrap around the crystals anchoring you to their healing energy.
  • Attune to Universal Energies. Still firmly grounded, take your attention up through the atmosphere, past the stars, to the highest source of Light. You can call this God, the Universe, Christ Energy or Source. Connect with that Light, and let it come down to meet you. The Light enters your Crown Chakra, travels through your Core to your Heart, and to your palms. Finally we're going to visualise a bubble of healing light surrounding our Aura.
  • Call in Your Helpers. Now it's time to call in our helpers, especially any healing guides or angels. As this is a water blessing, I like to call on Archangel Haniel because she is linked to the moon, changing tides (water) and to emotional healing. Haniel will add her intuitive energy to the water.
  • Infuse Your Water.  Hold the glass of water in your hand, and Intend for your drinking water to take on gentle healing properties. With time, a steady stream of water can wear down even the toughest rocks. We're going to leverage that power to release any mental, emotional or spiritual baggage from the body and soul, slowly but surely. Intend for your entire water supply to be blessed. At this point, one could use three Reiki Level 2 symbols with the intent to program the water and heal the past, present and future.
  • It's Time to Disconnect. Thanking your angels and guides for their help, take your attention back to that highest source of light. We're going to disconnect, knowing that we can repeat this meditation whenever we like. Thank the Light for it's blessing and bring your attention back to your body. Check your grounding roots, draw your Aura in around you, and finally ...
  • Shield Your Energy. I like to visualize a protective cloak around my energy field, and intend for it to keep me warm and toasty. Think of it as wearing an energetic overcoat to keep you insulated from the elements. A bubble of light works just as well, it's the intention that counts (((heart))).

The first time I tried this with Reiki, I set the intention for my drinking water to be infused with light for a year. Since then, I've tried this with shorter time frames so that I can change the Intention when the transformation has taken place (helpful if you're trying to heal a particular pattern). The key is to carry out the meditation and to expect that it will work whenever you have a drink of water. If that feels like a stretch, just thank the Heavens for the healing before taking a sip. Gratitude opens a door for healing to come in!

Chiron the Wounded Healer

In Greek mythology, Chiron is the Immortal Healer, unable to heal his own wounds, though he does heal others. He is often associated with the King of Cups, someone who is great at helping others but unable to help himself. A lot of us get into healing because we start out healing ourselves, and then move onto sharing that knowledge with others. Whereas the myth says that Chiron is unable to heal himself, I don't believe that to be true for us. The theory is that if we find the placement of the asteroid Chiron in our birth charts, we can figure out where our soul bears the deepest past life wounds. Any efforts to heal that aspect will have the biggest pay-out.

Again, the Chiron myth tells us that this scar will be with us through life, but my intuition tells me that we can heal and release it with water, especially if that water is charged with the intention to clear and heal the soul. Running water is gentle, but with time, it is powerful enough to carve out canyons and wear down rocks. By infusing our drinking water with healing energy and intending for it to reach the soul, we can heal even the deepest spiritual wounds. There's one more point, and that's the fact that Chiron (the asteroid) was only discovered in 1977. In astrology, the theory is that planets, asteroids and star systems are discovered when their effects become relevant. We may be the first generation to have the self-awareness necessary for this soul healing to occur. I'm still a Chiron Rookie and it will take a good deal of meditation before I make sense of things.

If you would like to find your Chiron, you can generate a Free Birth Chart on Astro.com. Then read this article on Chiron in the Houses and Signs, to see what it all means. In my case, it was quite interesting because my Chiron is in Taurus (a 2nd House sign) and I don't have any planets in that quadrant on self, possessions or community. Chiron in Taurus is supposed to be about my relationship with material things, and I am prone to leaving things behind. For example, when I moved from London to Mexico last year, a back injury kept me from moving my things, and rather than pack I gave almost everything to charity. Not sure what that means but Chiron in Taurus says it's about a wound in the "body" and also an irrational relationship with material things. This can lead to "lots of waste" or lots of "economy." I do tend to travel extremely light, my wardrobe is typically small and slow to replenish itself.

I’m not sure what any of this means just yet. Please let us know what comes up for you and if it resonates. Leave your comments below, or click through to my FB page and comment here. If by the most amazing twist of fate, an astrologer reads this, please share your insights on Chiron with us! =)

My next post will be on water and how we can charge it with healing energy. Stay tuned!

Choose Your Own Flower Remedies - Part 3

Years ago, I walked into a supermarket in search of Bach Flowers. I knew very little, only that there were remedies for different mental and emotional states, for example; anxiety, jealousy, self-doubt, undue optimism or even arrogance. Going by the descriptions, I chose the ones that sounded like me. Since then I've discovered that my choice of remedies corresponds to the more influential signs in my birth chart: Moon in Capricorn, North Node in 4th House, Past and Present Life Suns in Aquarius (maybe I flunked and got a do-over?)

Apparently, we can use our birth charts to narrow down the range of Bach Flowers, making the selection process easier. We can then leverage the healing qualities in the flowers to soften our limitations and unlock our strengths, which often coincide with our star signs.

Bach’s original remedies were just 12, he called them the The Twelve Healers. Bach hypothesized that they corresponded to the Moon Sign in our birth charts. He didn't connect the dots, that was done by Peter Damian in his book, The 12 Healers of the Zodiac. His book is great, I work with it myself. When clients need an extra nudge, or if they are really stuck in the shadow of their zodiac signs, I use a different set of association that I came up with myself. You’ll find those associations in an article of mind with OM Times Magazine HERE.

A Few Parting Words ...
  • Bach Flower Remedies are complementary to medical care, not alternative. Please see a doctor if you are worried about a medical condition or symptom. Take care of yourself =)
  • Birth charts have a lot going on, with aspects or conjunctions playing the planets and signs off each other to dial up (or down) the effects. Go by your intuition and self-awareness when deciding which remedies to take. For example, my sun is in Aquarius but Water Violet wasn't my first choice.
  • I haven't explored the Zodiac in depth as that would take ages and I still feel like a beginner with astrology. If you'd like to know more about the meaning of the planets, signs or houses in your birth chart, visit CafeAstrology.comSee here for Sun SignsMoon Signs and Nodes of the Moon/Past Lives.

Choose Your Own Flower Remedies - Part 2

Last year I booked a session with a flower healer in Mexico, hoping to ground my energy and cool my nerves. I had just landed a gig as a weekly radio host with A1R Psychic Radio, and truth be told, I was terrified about giving angel and tarot readings on air. What if I froze and couldn't say anything? In any other setting, it wouldn't matter if the messages took a minute or two. I cringed at the thought of radio silence. So I went to Cati the Flower Healer and asked her to give me liquid courage and clarity. Her consultation room is small but gorgeous. A glass desk full of angels, buddhas and flowers. Behind her, a bookcase filled with hundreds of flower essences: Bach Flowers, Australian Bush Flowers and a few Planetary Elixirs.

Suddenly, I wasn't all that nervous and spent most of the hour asking about flower remedies and vibrational healing. This is what I learned:

When Edward Bach created his flower essences in the 1930's, the original set was known as The Twelve Healers. The remedies corresponded to common personality types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Bach's theory was that we could use flower remedies to soften each personality type's limitations, and tap into its strengths. If I'm not mistaken, Bach also hypothesized that our personality types may overlap with our Moon Signs, but he didn't connect the dots. Others have gone on to connect individual remedies with their corresponding essence. The big surprise that day, was that I had intuitively chosen the correct essence for my Moon in Capricorn. You wouldn't guess it, but I can be very fearful, prone to worst-case-scenario thinking. The Bach Centre tells us that Mimulus is for people with a:
"Fear of worldly things, illness, pain, accidents, poverty, of dark, of being alone, of misfortune. The fears of everyday life. These people quietly and secretly bear their dread, they do not freely speak of it to others"
My first experience with Flower Remedies was at a supermarket shelf. I read the descriptions and chose the ones that were right for me. It wasn't until I had this impromptu Q&A with Cati the Flower Healer, that I realized these remedies corresponded to my Sun, Moon and Past Life signs. These essences soften aspects of our personality that get in the way of our happiness. I'm no expert on astrology, but as far as I can tell, we have the most to gain by balancing and healing these placements:

  • Sun Sign: How we channel our energy into the world.
  • Moon Sign: Inner feelings, emotions and personal life.
  • Ascendant: How we relate to the world and those around us.
  • Mercury: How we communicate our thoughts to others.
  • Venus: Our relationship with love, money and creativity.
  • Mars: How we channel desires into the realm of action.
  • South Node Moon: Lessons brought forward from a past life.

Your astrological chart will tell you what House and Sign the planets were in at the time of your birth (see here for a free birth chart). The zodiac sign refers to the attitude or energy that you bring to a particular situation, and the house is that situation (career, family life, spirituality, etc). The essences that I chose intuitively corresponded to the zodiac signs for my sun, moon and three other planets that are all placed in the same sign (Virgo). I think it was the preponderance of Virgo energy that made me gravitate to that particular essence, so keep an eye out for lots of planets in a particular sign or House.
That's not all! The Houses also have intrinsic zodiac signs; and we can be influenced by their energy, rather than the transiting sign's. For example, my North Node is in the 4th House, and even though Leo was transiting through the 4th house at the time of my birth, I was drawn to the remedy for Cancer. My karma is theoretically in the 4th & 10th houses, and that's where I'd do well to focus my energy *

Here is a quick summary of the Houses and their native signs:
  • 1st House:  Our personal identity, who we are in the world. ARIES.
  • 2nd House: The material world, riches, resources. TAURUS.
  • 3rd House:  Our community environment, siblings. GEMINI.
  • 4th House:  Family life, the home, childhood. CANCER
  • 5th House:  How we express our creativity: art, music & love affairs. LEO
  • 6th House:  Vocations, teamwork, help, service to others (or not). VIRGO
  • 7th House:  Marriage, romantic relationships, partnership. LIBRA
  • 8th House:  Shared resources, monetary gain, legacies. SCORPIO
  • 9th House:  What is the meaning of life? Philosophy. SAGITTARIUS
  • 10th House: Social and career status, ambition, ripple effect. CAPRICORN
  • 11th House: Do we identify with all of humanity? Oneness.  AQUARIUS
  • 12th House: The realm of past lives, karma & family secrets. PISCES.

If this sounds complicated, go by your intuition and let it guide you. Read the descriptions and see how they feel. We can take up to 6-7 remedies at a time, so its a good idea to choose the ones that sound like they will benefit us the most. We can also use a pendulum to select the remedies. I have done this in the past by putting eight or nine bottles on the table in front of me, turning them around so that I can't see the labels (I don't want to bias the results) and letting the pendulum choose them for me. Maybe it's magic, but the pendulum usually says Yes to the remedies that resonate with my life at the time.

That's all for today! I hope this crash course in astrology was useful, and not too confusing. There is so much to learn, I am very much an amateur myself. Please have your birth charts ready for my next post. We'll explore Bach's original remedies and the Zodiac signs they've been linked to. If you don't know your star signs, generate a chart at Astro.com
