Home for the Holidays

I am home for the holidays visiting family and friends. Its been wonderful catching up with everyone and one of the nicest surprises was finding out that a couple of my friends are also into healing and other kinds of light working. Some of them have been into self healing for a while and I had no idea because in the year and a half that I've been studying healing, I hadn't mentioned it. Maybe I didn't think they would get it. I am glad to know my assumption was wrong.

The experience reminds me of one of Doreen Virtue's Unicorn cards, the one that talks about how sharing thoughts, feelings and ideas brings us closer to others. If you don't open up and talk about whatever you're going through, you'll never know how others feel or if they empathise. And you would meet people never knowing that they are on the same path. Sharing brings people closer together and it also helps to establish that consciousness of one-ness that my classmates go on and on about. I haven't experienced it fully but I am starting get a glimpse of what it's like. As I am writing this, I am getting a sense of another Unicorn card that tells us to see the Light in everyone around us.

Does sharing have to be selfless or painful?

One of the things that I have had to let go of is the idea that if we help someone, it has to be 100% altruistic - in order for the action to be good. I don’t know if this is an idea that I adopted in childhood seeing others hold up selflessness as good - “give till it hurts” etc. The world would be a much better place if we knew that it is always in our benefit to help others. We always get something in return, directly or indirectly 💛 🫶🏻 Research shows that kindness makes for a much healthier society. I read a book last year called Shadow, Self & Spirit on transpersonal (or collective) psychology. There was a chapter on the psychology of evil and violence. People are less likely to harm others if they experience some form of compassion in their lives, or if they believe that someone cares about them - even if it’s a public figure, a politician, a celeb, or a deity like Quan Yin. Or better yet, family members, friends, and strangers. Random acts of kin...

Looking into a Reiki Meta-Analysis (Clinical Study)

A few days ago, I came across a Reiki meta-analysis that was published last year. A meta analysis is a very large study that compiles other studies, in this case randomized controlled trials, and aggregates all of their data. As I have mentioned before, one of the challenging things about holistic studies, and clinical studies in general, is making sure that they accurately measure what they intend to measure. Note: I may come back to this in the future to keep refining information and thoughts, and to simplify it.  In the meantime, my first impressions :  Effects of Reiki therapy on quality of life: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.   Syst Rev. 2025 Mar 27;14(1):72.    The participants in these studies were cancer patients, surgical patients and people with chronic issues (including high stress) who were not hospitalized. There weren't enough people in those study groups to generate reliable statistics for cancer vs surgery, but when all of them...

Vibrational Medicine by Dr Richard Gerber (Book Review)

People often ask if energy healing depends on the belief of the client - the placebo effect is real .  And while we   can  harness it by working through feelings and beliefs  that may undermine the healing process,   when I worked in  consumer  healthcare, research was  expected to outperform the placebo.   This is why I was happy to find a  book called  Vibrational Medicine,  by Dr Richard Gerber. It goes  through research done in labs and clinical settings. The book is a brick: 500 pages and almost too technical, but worth reading as an energy healer.   Below you will find highlights from Chapter 8 on Psychic Healing. Please note ,  Energy Healing is complementary to medical care, not alternative.   Dr. Gerber uses the term  'Psychic Healing'  throughout the book; however, in my own practice, I refer to these concepts as  'Energy Healing' based on my studies . Vibrational Medicine, by Richar...
