Are You a Love or a Happiness?

I have had the weirdest dreams since I started studying intuition. Last night I had one where it felt like I was traveling to another dimension or to a new kind of planet. The people there were made of energy and light. I didn't get a sense of physical bodies but they were conscious. They had light bodies and individuality.

When I was approached by someone who seemed like he was of the opposite gender, I began comparing my energy to his and a question came to mind:

Regina, what are you?

And without missing a light-beat, I replied: I am a Happiness.

The one asking was a Love. And the feeling was that in that dimension - in this dream of mine - Loves paired up with Happinesses. Yin and Yang in a world of light.

This idea definitely rang a bell...

One of the biggest lessons for me has been to define the word Happiness on my own terms and what it means to live a life that makes me happy. Is it selfish to prioritize happiness? On some level, I used to think so. That is what my latest book is about and what Holy Fire® and Karuna Reiki® are about, happiness and compassion.

A few years ago I had the idea of writing a novel about a flower fairy who noticed that flowers faded faster if they went home with unhappy families. The fairy closed up her shop to go looking for happiness so she could put it in her bouquets.

I am not sure if I have found "it" yet, but energy healing has made a huge difference in my life. If you would like to know more, both of my books are geared towards self-healing as a road to peace, love and empowerment. 💛

Use Reiki to Lift Your Mood (Authentically)

I taught an Usui Holy Fire ® Reiki class and something odd happened with the energy. It felt like Reiki was talking for me - I’m still trying to wrap my head around it 😅

Towards the end of the class I was talking about how I use Reiki in my daily life.  For example, we can jot down our goals and fill the paper with energy before brainstorming on how to bring those plans to life. Reiki opens the door to our intuitive faculties, tapping into the unlimited creativity that surrounds us, including the knowledge that your higher self has to share. It opens our eyes to new ways of doing things. Placing your hands on your Brow Chakra also opens up the mind.

I was talking about these practical uses when my palms started to buzz the way they do at the beginning of a Reiki session. The energy usually feels like electric tingles, before becoming hotter and hotter as I am ready to approach the client in the healing session. But in class, the heat never came, the tingles never left and instead, I clairvoyantly saw a white mist floating out from my palms into the room. Fifteen minutes later, it felt like I was looking at the students through the mist!

Then on Monday I gave a one-to-one Reiki class. The student was curious about using Reiki with personal triggers, psychology and emotional healing. I mentioned that Reiki and journaling go well together and how I use it in my own life - and funny enough, that white misty Reiki started to flow out from my palm chakras! It's like Reiki was talking for me LOL.

Back to the Mood Lifting Tip!

Journaling has always been one of my favorite activities since childhood, hence this blog 😇 Then in 2017 I signed up for a psychology class where we learned to write about the things that bother us as a way to release those feelings. As you write, you tend to gain a deeper understanding of how you really feel and why. Adding Reiki gives the session an extra oomph, as we direct healing energy at those feelings and let them evaporate gently. When you're done writing, place your hands on your Heart Chakra and fill your body with a sense of calm, peace and love (Reiki).

Reiki doesn't keep us from feeling our feelings, but it gives us a chance to understand them and hopefully feel just a fraction of what is there, as it makes its way out of our Aura. In some cases, for example trauma, it is best to see a therapist, but most of us will be able to give ourselves Reiki informally at home. Either way, Reiki is complementary to medical care, not alternative.

Many spiritual fads tell us to think positive, keep our vibes happy. I like to think of myself as a generally upbeat person, but I also spend a LOT of time thinking or writing (or drawing) about the sad, angry, and fearful feelings that make an appearance. And that is a big part of self-healing; otherwise the happy thought is no more than a bandaid. There is no reason to be afraid of our thoughts, but running away from an unhappy one can make it more resistant.

Reiki gives us an opportunity to deep dive into our feelings - letting the things that 'get us down' come to the surface in a gentle way. It serves to clear and heal the emotional body so that the things that aren't going perfectly well in our lives don't weigh us down so much. My spiritual psychology teacher likened each 'difficulty' of sorts to a glass that was full of water - every time we self heal, journal, or give ourselves Reiki, a bit of that water pours out.

Ready To Get Started?

We can only channel Reiki if we've been attuned by a teacher, and I would definitely recommend taking a Reiki Level 1 workshop. If the time is not right, there are other energy healing techniques that we can practice without attending a workshop. Both of my books guide us through the process. Chakra Healing & Magick includes creative techniques for chakra healing, intuition and a bit of crystal magick!

The energy healing exercises in the book can be done with Reiki or by following the steps in Chapter 5: Awaken Your Inner Healer. Available on Amazon below:

Astrology, Tarot and Reiki (Rolled Into One)

I'm an Aquarius Sun with Mercury in Pisces. If there is a traditional way of going about things, I tend to go in a different direction. Can't help it; Aquarius likes doing its own thing and Pisces has trouble staying inside the box. Think of a colouring book where the lines are invisible so you draw anywhere and sometimes on the table too. That is Pisces 🐠

And with Gemini Rising my ruling planet is Mercury - which in tarot terms, is the Magician! This energy likes to shape its own reality and plays with Fire just because it can. It has gotten me into trouble when sessions get creative. I keep hearing, that is not how Reiki works.

The Zodiac Wheel + Rider Waite Tarot 💕

Energy Healing and Tarot

Last week I had a crazy creative Reiki session; it was such fun that I hope to repeat it many times. A client came in for healing and wanted to work on confidence and personal power. I started out the way you usually would: clearing his Aura, tuning into his energy from the shoulders and letting Reiki flow from the Crown of his head all the way to his feet. Then I moved onto his Chakras, expecting to use the Reiki Symbols to clear his energy. The symbols are based on Japanese kanji and each of them has a meaning and a vibration. We use them for intention setting.

Instead, when my palms were over his Solar Plexus Chakra - the center of joy, power and personal identity - a Tarot card came to my mind. I saw an image of two people making their way through a snow storm with no buildings in sight. It made me feel like he was braving the Elements, not knowing where he was going. I thought OK, so we're healing with images now, and started to fill that mental picture with Reiki, while picturing it in his abdomen.

Within a few minutes the image changed to another card, one where we see the King of Fire sitting on-top of a Fire Dragon (from Doreen Virtue's now disowned tarot). This card is about being able to communicate our vision with power and confidence, so I moved one hand up to his Throat Chakra and kept the other on the Solar Plexus. I stayed there for a little bit longer, until the images shifted again. The next one was actually my favorite card (and please don't think I'm crazy) - the Death card. This isn't actually about Death, instead relating to Scorpio energy. If you're not familiar with this powerful watery sign, it's the energy of demolition and rebirth rolled into one - any situation can be healed by Scorpio.

Astrology, Tarot and Reiki

Scorpio is the most powerful Zodiac sign because of its force (ruled by Pluto and Mars) and its laser-sharp insight. It knows how things will play out, which ensures success, though like all Zodiac signs it has drawbacks. Smother love and control issues - but when we send energy healing to the image of the card in a person's Aura, those qualities are harmonized. Rather than project the energy of the card, we see it in the person's psyche and let Reiki balance and heal it.

This isn't how one typically works in a Reiki session, but it is very similar to the energy healing sessions that I learned to do at the School of Intuition & Healing in London. And thanks to my dreamy Mercury in Pisces mind, I really can't predict what I will see or where I'll go in healing or Reiki sessions. The fun thing was that the client loved it and felt 100% happy, relaxed and peaceful when the hour was up 🙌 🙌 🙌

I wouldn't have expected a session that dealt with Scorpio upheavals to be peaceful, but that is what Reiki does for us. It calms the waters and diminishes turbulence. Also it is much better to consciously channel Scorpio energy, than to have it rush through your life unannounced LOL.

Read Chakra Healing & Magick to work with tarot, clairvoyant images and energy healing. The book is available on Amazon (HERE)And you have seen this, but Katy Perry's Wide Awake has so much tarot symbolism. It's the journey that we go through, beginning with The Magician and through the tunnel with our Inner Guide.

An Unexpected Happiness Boost

One of the things that I’ve toyed with is going vegetarian to reduce my environmental footprint, but rational arguments aren't always strong enough for us to give up something we love. And my favourite foods are veggies, salads, steaks and cheeseburgers. The compassion plea might be stronger.  If we think about how animals are kept in factories, it is worth it to choose free-range beef and chicken. Let's say the animal had a humane life and we believe in the food chain (animals eat each other in the wild); there is nothing morally wrong with eating animals. Moderation is healthy too.

Then three months ago I went on a heart healing workshop where we connected with our Higher Selves and with teacher guides such as Buddha or Quan Yin. It sounds like science fiction, but we can all learn to receive their messages and guidance if we meditate with this in mind. Beyond a certain level, the messages that come through are meant to help us and these highest level guides never ask for anything in return. My Reiki Teacher calls it the Third Heaven level where all we encounter is compassion; no duality, no give and take, no agendas. The messages are about helping you.

The message that I received from a spiritual being that shone like a thousand suns, was that going vegetarian would make me happier, as I wouldn't be eating certain emotions. It made me think about it…

I'm Testing Vegetarian Waters

This was in March. Two weeks ago I finally thought I would go cold turkey for a month. I love meat - I really do - so in the long term my plan is to become a weekday vegetarian and eat burgers and hot wings on weekends. Tacos too - it's really hard to be Mexican and live in Mexico and never eat a taco again (although my favourite taqueria has a vegetarian menu). I went to a nutritionist to get tips on how to substitute protein, iron, B12 and all of the others nutrients that we get from meat. Two weeks have gone by. I had a spoonful of ceviche the first week, and chicken enchiladas on Wednesday, but otherwise no meat products.

And guess what? I have never been happier. It took like 10 days for my mood to adjust and another few for me to notice. But I feel like my Aura is full of light, my mind is clearer and my Solar Plexus Chakra is radiating. Nothing has changed in my life - actually, there are a few things that make it less than perfect. But I am happy for no reason, except for the biological one ...

Science On Vegetarian Happiness

Yesterday I was thinking about how I feel so much happier and was there a scientific reason for it? I googled "happy after 2 weeks as a vegetarian" and came across a clinical study that looks at the acids in animal meat and the effect they have on the brain. This particular acid is called Arachidonic - our body needs it to function properly, but if we have too much, the studies show a correlation between depression and animal consumption. The trials run with meat eaters showed that after just 2 weeks on a vegetarian diet, people who previously ate meat were happier.

So I had no idea about this before I started - other than my intuition telling me that I would be happier as a vegetarian. The archangels have told me repeatedly that our personal ability to channel miracles into the world depends on how happy we are - but also, that if we are super unhappy they can help us with a bit of divine intervention. Thank God for that, literally.

I would never presume to tell anyone to become vegetarian. But if we can't bring ourselves do it for environmental reasons or out of compassion (I couldn't manage it despite those reasons), test it for your own happiness. Just for two weeks to see how you feel, and if you are happier, think about adding a few meat-eating days so that you are able to benefit from the mental uplift as well as your favourite dishes. At this point I don't know if I will stick with it forever but I am loving the happiness boost. When this month is over I might choose the weekday vegetarian plan as that gives us freedom to eat anything on Saturdays and Sundays - then again I may run with it and go vegetarian 99% of the time. The main benefit is happiness; for me, for the animals and the planet.

Vegetable Protein Sources

Knowing what to eat is the biggest challenge and to be honest, I didn't stock up on protein alternatives so by the end of the first week I was feeling tired. Plus my favorite workout is spinning á la SoulCycle, so I had to up my protein game. I have been relying on a few ingredients and I'm actively looking for more. The tiredness went away with these:

  • Fage Greek Yogurts have 20 grams of protein in one pot, which is almost half of what I need in a day (at 63Kilos) - amazing.
  • Feta, Goats Cheese, unsweetened peanut butter are good too.
  • Pastas made from Lentil, Garbanzo have 8-10 grams.
  • The Veggie Protein Shakes at GNC are great.
  • Lots and lots of greens like Spinach etc
  • Lentils, beans, garbanzos, nuts and seeds.
  • Quinoa is a famous protein grain but I am really loving another one called Freekeh that is very filling and has lots of protein.
  • Eggs for breakfast are wonderful.

My nutritionist suggested switching my carb intake to bread, rice and pasta that take longer to digest. Some carbs give us more energy - and I have to include the right type of carbs, protein and fat in every single meal or snack. The only thing that's been cut are pastries, candy and sweets (or fruit after 2pm as it disrupts digestion). The bread that I am eating is called Ezequiel or Centeno in Spanish; the rice is usually wild or a bit harder, no white or processed carbs for me.

The Bigger Picture

We get a lot of nutrients from meat, chicken and fish - not just protein. Iron, B12 and other minerals need to be substituted as well. I am no expert on this - clearly I’m just starting out. But the past weeks have seen such a HUGE SHIFT IN MY HAPPINESS that I anticipate being mostly vegetarian for a long time. How many of us would love to feel a little bit happier. If a plant-based diet does it for you, going vegetarian is a pleasure, not a sacrifice.

There are plenty of rational reasons to not eat meat and you will find them in this 4 Minute TedTalk on being a Weekday Vegetarian. But we humans aren't entirely rational - so many of our decisions are made emotionally. So do it for yourself - for your happiness, and if you feel a difference it will be very easy 😇

I hope you enjoyed this post and please don't unsubscribe - we will go back to energy healing and intuition posts next week. And if you'd like to give this a go - see a nutritionist. The last thing you need is to miss out on nutrients and think that being a part-time vegetarian is exhausting, when it just requires planning and knowledge. And of course, every physical body is different, please pay attention to what you need.

One last plus to going vegetarian, you usually have room for dessert!

Reiki hugs,

Regina

2025 Update: ... I was a vegetarian again for about a year and a half, until the pandemic. Couldn’t make it stick. Sorry!
