Healing Attunements with Extra Oomph

Last summer I gave healing to a family friend who had just been diagnosed with cancer. We both felt the energy strongly. My hands burned like never before. I was particularly drawn to the Solar Plexus Chakra where we hold the energy of fear, and to the Heart Chakra which, in one way or another, opens the door for us to heal every aspect of our lives. As the healing drew to a close I realised that he would need a lot of sessions. I also got the impression that he needed to heal himself. So right then, I improvised and attuned him to Reiki (sort of) by modifying the standard Healing Attunement and extending it to the palms of his hands. Let me explain ...

Reiki Masters learn to do two kinds of attunements. The most common, the Reiki Attunement, connects you to Reiki in the most powerful way. It kicks off a cleansing process that can last up to a month. It's also for life. Reiki is a way of life, as much as a healing modality, so people have to choose this path (or maybe it chooses them). There are also three levels to the Reiki Attunement, adding more healing tools to the existing connection. A Healing Attunement, on the other hand, brings a gentle stream of Reiki into a person's energy field, especially their Solar Plexus and Heart Chakras. This connection lasts for 2-3 months and we're taught to give it to people with chronic conditions who will need an extra boost between sessions. The standard Healing Attunement doesn't include the person's hands, so they can't use it for hands-on-healing. The cleansing aspect of the Healing Attunement is much softer too. It is better suited to cancer patients, who are already going through a hard time.

That day I improvised by carrying out a Healing Attunement, and extending it to the hands so that he could give himself healing. In this case, I also intended for it to last as long as it was needed. It has been a year and he is doing well. I haven't given him another healing and honestly, I don't think he needs it (see note below) That's the value of self-healing. I hadn't mentioned this before because I wasn't sure if this was the "right way" to share Reiki with others. For all it's simplicity, Reiki has a lot of rules. And on some level, I was worried about what other Reiki Masters might say. Straying from the original teachings is sometimes seen as a bad thing. Though by now almost everyone has. The branch that I studied, Usui Tibetan Reiki, blends Usui's original approach with Buddhist influences. Its lovely. Personally, I think creativity is a godsend.

It has also dawned on me that the healing is meant to suit the client's needs, not our thoughts about what it should look like. From now on, I'm going to offer this boosted Healing Attunement to clients with chronic conditions. And maybe to others as well. It's time to put my creative stamp on the Reiki lineage! Though I wouldn't be surprised if someone else has been inspired to do the same thing before. =)

Reiki hugs,

Regina

Compassion and Self-Healing

Hi There! This is the script from my A1R Psychic Radio show: July 15 2014.

Welcome to Diary of a Psychic Healer. My name is Regina. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a qualified Healer and author. Last week we talked about Energy Healing, what it is, and how we can use it to heal different aspects of our lives: mental, emotional and physical. Today we are going to talk about compassion and the role it plays in self-healing.

Let’s define Compassion: seeing a person’s faults and not punishing or judging them for it. When we’re compassionate with others we give them the benefit of the doubt. We also recognize the fact that we’re all human, we make mistakes and we’re continually evolving and growing on this path of ours.

Quite a few religions speak of compassion: Christianity and Buddhism both do. The framework I have enjoyed the most is the one Kabbalah uses. If you’re not familiar with Kabbalah, it’s an esoteric understanding of both human nature and divinity. It was originally developed by Christian monks in the middle ages, and has since been adopted by the more mystical side of Judaism. I’m not an expert on Kabbalah or a practicing Kabbalist, though geek that I am, I took a few classes.

  • One of the topics we studied was the Tree of Life (or the 10 spheres of light). I won’t go into it in too much detail now, only to say that the 10 spheres of light are each said to represent aspects of the Divine, including Wisdom, Glory, Mercy, Judgment and Manifestation, to name a few.
  • You’ll have to Google the Tree of Life to see an image, but the ten spheres are placed on three pillars of light, with the harsher elements on the left, the more caring elements on the right. For example, we have Judgment on the left, balanced out by Mercy and Compassion on the right hand column.
  • We need to be Objective, Rational and Discerning, in so far as Judgments are concerned. If however, we lean on Judgment without bringing Compassion and Mercy into the equation, we risk going too far. Both in our personal lives, and on the global scale. So many of the conflicts we see nowadays are due to people leaning heavily on harsh judgments and forgetting to show mercy in their actions. We really need both of these.

And Back to Energy Healing ...

Professional healers are taught to be compassionate, objective and non-judgmental. This is the only way to create a space where clients can feel safe opening up about the character traits that they might be self-conscious about. Or even feelings that they might be ashamed of, like jealousy and envy.

We all have a shadow side: that side of us that we don’t broadcast to the world (and sometimes, we won’t even acknowledge it ourselves). Our shadow side makes us act out of fear, anger, worry or jealousy. And its 100% human. Self-healing involves accepting these ugly bits with the more appealing ones that we show the world. The more we work on our self-confidence and self-love, the easier it is to heal and release the shadow. Even though it will most likely, never be gone. And that’s OK too. It’s all part of the process. With time we’ll start to appreciate the beauty in our imperfections.

So be kind, be compassionate. Start with yourself and let it spill over to your relationships and the people you meet. It will bring lots of love into the world!

Eco Friendly Businesses

A while ago I found myself asking the question: What would I do if my books took off and I suddenly found myself making bucket loads of cash (hey! a girl can dream). What would I do with it? Aside from covering my own bills, etc?

So here it is! ... I like the idea of starting a planet friendly business. On one hand, I want to keep blogging, writing, teaching. Start an online university. I have a feeling that as time goes by I'll have lots to write about. And thanks to my marketing background, I could make that work. I would have to get over my aversion for self-promotion (igghhh).

My BIG IDEA, though, is to invest in eco friendly businesses.

I like the thought of a holding corporation where the majority stockholder is nature. Are the businesses, products and services sustainable? Will they leave the earth better off (or at least, not make it worse?). The financial bottom line matters, but not more than the environment. I could see myself owning 10% , my business partners another chunk, and the bulk of it belonging to nature.

It would be good to have a sustainability expert on-board. Not someone who is militant about saving the earth, but someone who can find a way to make it work in the short and long term. And maybe someone with financial sense to be involved in the day-to-day running of things. I have an MBA but haven't really zeroed in on finance. Maybe its time to read up on my notes from class.

Imagine what the world would be like if we all invested a bit time, energy and money into planet friendly businesses? That's what I intend for the future =)

Angel Cards vs iPhone Apps

A friend of the family came over this week to learn about angels. She asked how I got into healing, intuition, and was it a gift? I think its a gift we all have. Learning to follow your intuition is like learning to play the piano, we can all learn to read music, sound out the keys and have fun with the songs. Its true that some people might pick it up quicker, more seamlessly. Maybe they've done it in past lives.

But we can all learn. Everyone can. Especially with the wonderful tools at our disposal. I learned to do psychic readings at the College of Psychic Studies, where we'd start with a nice, long meditation. My tutor taught us to start by grounding and protecting ourselves before taking the journey. The beginners meditation started with us imagining a door in front of us. Open the door, step through it. You come into a hallway, find a staircase leading downwards, and we go down one step at a time (putting us in a relaxed mode). From there the teacher would guide us to different locations without describing our surroundings in too much detail. Your imagination brings it to life for you.

After the meditation we'd write down what we saw and then talk about it. The psychic messages were in the things we'd seen. The colour of that door, how heavy it was. What was the scene like on the other side? And then the place we traveled to, what it looked like, who we saw there. My destination was often full of book. A lot like the library in Beauty and the Beast. I love reading, learning, writing. Its in my Spiritual DNA. After a few sessions, we started going on guided tours of our classmate's spiritual hideouts. That was amazing. I might not see it the same way they did, but I'd interpret what I saw and would then give them a message. Sometimes we'd interpret it together.

Of course, this takes lots and lots of practice. Lots of meditation. Angel Cards, Tarot Cards, i Ching, the runes and other tools can give us a short cut. Just ask a question, pull a card and see what comes up. I pulled a few cards for our family friend this week and then encouraged her to buy her own deck, as she really seemed to enjoy it. Most of the decks I own are available printed, though you can also buy an iPhone or iPad app. Personally, I'm pretty comfortable with electronics and I use these more than the physical decks. Somehow, the cards always seem to be relevant. On this particular occasion, I pulled 8 cards from my "physical" decks and then 4 on my iPhone. Would you believe me if I told you that three of the cards I pulled on my iPhone also came up on the first reading, with the physical deck? What are the chances? I honestly believe it was the angels demonstrating that it makes no difference which you use. My favourite decks I'll even end up buying twice, to have both.

My favourite decks for beginners are these:

      The Radiant Rider Waite

The Wizard's Tarot Deck

Angel Therapy Cards
This isn't Tarot but still one  of my faves

What is Energy Healing?

Energy Healing is a complementary therapy that promotes mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, as well as relief from stress-related health concerns.

Energy Healers channel a mix of Universal and Earth energies, through their Heart and Palm Chakras to the client’s body and energy field. This helps them release stuck energy, emotions and anxiety that they may have picked up from everyday interactions. So for example, let’s say you’ve had an argument where you found yourself exasperatingly tongue-tied. Not having the words to express yourself can leave a sense of frustration and even constriction in your throat. I’ve certainly been there a few times! Or maybe, you felt a pang in your stomach, where we tend to hold our personal power and boundaries. If this happens often, the energy builds and we may see chronic sore throats or even tummy aches. Energy Healing aims to clear this energy from the body and the energy field.

There’s a fantastic book by Inna Segal, called The Secret Language of your Body, that sheds light on the meaning behind specific symptoms and organs. Similar to Louise Hay's work in You Can Heal Your Life, though Segal goes into the meanings in more detail. I use this knowledge, combined with my intuition and the channeled energy, to work my way through a healing session, whether it’s with a client. Or just healing myself – which is also wonderful!

It's worth mentioning that Energy Healing is complementary to medical care, not alternative. I like to think that healing addresses the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of disease, while conventional medicine takes care of the physical urgency. This is especially important when it comes to serious conditions like cancer, diabetes and certain mental health issues. While some people have strong affinities for either natural/alternative medicine, or conventional,     I like to get the best of both worlds.

What happens during a session?

We have the Healer, channeling energy, and a client receiving it. The client usually sits or lies down, fully clothed. I usually start by placing my hands on the client’s shoulders to connect with them, before working my way through the Chakras and the Aura.

Focusing on the Aura and Chakra System enables us to focus on specific areas of our life; for example: Root Chakra to strengthen our foundations, Sacral Chakra to stimulate our appetite for life, Solar Plexus to work on our confidence and personal power, Heart Chakra to enhance our experience of love, Throat Chakra to strengthen our voice, Brow Chakra for our vision and analytical skills, and finally Crown Chakra to boost our intuition and spiritual connection. We can also clear and balance the different Aura layers, before ending the session by grounding the client.

I'll do this by putting my hands on their feet and intending for excess energy to go into the earth. This clears the mental and emotional bodies again.

It's common for clients to report feeling relaxed afterwards. During the session, you may feel temperature changes, tingly sensation or electricity. Everyone is different. Some people feel nothing, and that’s OK. I tend to feel the energy strongly when I give healing. Not so much when I receive it.
People often ask if they need to believe in healing for it to work. In my experience, they just need to be open to receiving it. It’s OK to be skeptical, especially at first. Some of my case studies in Healing School were colleagues who had never had healing and were curious and a little bit skeptical. The best way to understand how it works is to go for a session and try it out. You might be surprised!

A little bit on Self-Healing

Before we take our first caller, I'd like to talk a bit about self-healing. Seeing a professional Healer can give us a big boost and a sense of direction, but nothing beats learning to heal yourself. Even when we do see a healer, we only release the baggage that we’re ready to let go of. It’s a great idea to take an active role in your healing process. There are plenty of self-healing techniques to choose from, including Reiki, meditation and breathe work.

Tune in next week to learn more! If you'd interested in self-healing, I would also suggest you look up my book: A Personal Guide to Self-Healing, Cancer and Love. Though the theory is tailored to families who are coping with cancer, the techniques can be applied by anyone.

Writing my Memoirs (Already!)

I haven't been blogging so much this year. There's a good reason for it too: I'm halfway through the 1st draft of my next book! Yay! Its coming along slowly, I started in December and writers block got in the way most of the winter. Or maybe I just needed a break. Since then I've been scrawling away (literally) and I've got about 50 thousand words down on the first draft. About 40% through my outline, though I'm sure I'll end up cutting a lot of it later.

What's it about? Well ...

I'm rewriting this blog as a memoir, from scratch. Not sure exactly where it starts. Maybe when I quit my job in Mexico in 2008 to go travelling and somehow found myself moving to London. That was when I discovered healing, astrology and eventually, psychic development. I'm thinking back to the early days: what it was like to get the first impressions, to wonder if I was imagining things or if I was really getting signs. Its been 4-5 years and so much has happened. So many interesting people along the way.

Fingers crossed I will be done with this first draft in the next month or two and then I can put it down for a while. I have been wanting to write a fiction story with a supernatural slant, and that interlude could be a good time to do it. I'm still thinking about the Flower Fairy I dreamt up last year (see here).

Here's my 1st draft: handwritten to get past the writer's block =)
