Drawing on Ancient Techniques to Map Out your Life

I recently discovered an astrology channel on YouTube that specializes in Hellenistic Astrology; it's called The Astrology Podcast and it has so many good videos ๐ŸŒŸ

Today I'd like to share my experience with one of their podcasts; it's more advanced than what I usually share, but also quite simple. The episode presented a predictive technique from Ancient Greece that mapped out life phases based on the Lot of Spirit or Lot of Fortune (aka the Arabic Parts). This technique is called Zodiacal Releasing; it predicts the timing of big chapters in life, along with high and low activity phases. Incredibly accurate too…

I listened to the 4.5 hour lecture on YouTube and ran the dates for my Lot of Spirit, which looks at career and overall life direction. It helps us break down our lives into chapters or story arcs where we have a build up period that involves laying the foundations for the future, then going into a peak activity period where things come into focus. Finally we move into a third ‘cooling down phase’ which continues efforts to date. New chapters or story arcs keep coming up with each arc lasting several years (it depends on your astrology chart).

The peak activity dates line up with my CV, with the exact month & year for big shifts in my career. Sometimes down to the day, or even a few days difference (crazyyy). I was also thrown a curve ball in June 2021 and the specific day was highlighted ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป‍♀️

A Case Study of Zodiacal Releasing

If you have been reading my blog for a while (blogging since 2010), you may be familiar with some of my big pivot points.

Below is a picture of my zodiacal release. I was born in the early 80’s - my first big phase is childhood, college & grad school. You’ll see this under Level 1, my birthday ◼️. The second huge chapter started in October 2004, it’s still in progress.

Level 2 is a huge chapter that spans the last 17 years. Whenever you see a date circled in blue, that is a peak period with lots of activity. Though as Chris Brennan points out in his podcast, it could be a subjectively pleasant or unpleasant experience - just lots of activity.

Below are highlights for Level 2 peaks - what I’ve been up to since 2004 lol.

- October 2004: This month is memorable because it brought a number of changes on a personal level. I spent time abroad and loved it. It gave me an idea of the life I wanted to create, but that wouldn’t fall into place until the next peak period in 2008.

I took a marketing job at Frito Lay in Mexico (2005) where I was involved with sports, film and TV promos - it might be the most fun that I've had in a job. The sign on that Peak Period is LEO, which also happens to be my North Node (soul growth). Leo is a playful sign, full of fun.

BTW: I’m not sure if we are supposed to interpret the Zodiac sign or just look at dates. I have yet to take the full zodiac release class.

- August 2008: I left Frito Lay in August 2008 (!!!). I still have an email that I sent to the HR manager on   August 11th 2008 telling him I'd drop off my parking pass that week. At the time, I planned on traveling for 5-6 months and returning to Mexico to start a marketing consultancy with two friends. The next few months I went to India, Nepal and other places.

As luck would have it, I stopped in London for a weekend, where a friend told me about a work visa that foreigners could apply for if their job back home was highly skilled. This had been a dream of mine! I moved to London, where I was lucky to find a job at Johnson & Johnson. I stayed for four years, while exploring intuition and energy healing on the side (a big shift for me). This blog began in September 2010 (HERE).

- January 2013: I quit my marketing job to become a Healer, leaving the company at the end of January. I finished writing my first book that year,  A Personal Guide to Self-Healing, Cancer & Love. Published it in June and did lots of promotional work.

I moved back to Mexico in this phase too. The next few years were interesting but rocky; it dawned on me that I wanted to focus on teaching but wasn't quite ready for that. Plus there is a difference between mastering the technical skills, shining a light on your ego / insecurities, and having a big picture awareness of how it all comes together. From 2016, I began experimenting with different ways to set up classes.

September 2017: There were two HUGE earthquakes in Mexico City that month. It was terrifying, honestly, but also beautiful in terms of how the city came together to pull through. I reached out to the yoga school where I'd been teaching and suggested a meditation fundraiser to help rebuild. The fundraiser was held on the 28th September 2017. This is when I finally found my footing with workshops and healing meditations.

Since then I've had some changes — the pandemic has obviously thrown everyone a curve ball. Without going into too many details as this is already lengthy post, I had been planning on enrolling in a masters in counseling psychology the Fall of 2021. On the 25th of June 2021, the school that I still hope to attend decided not to open their campus and I had to defer for a year . The L's are pivots. So that's that — it's eery how this technique fits.

Philosophical Questions

Chris Brennan, from The Astrology Podcast, raises a lot of questions around freewill and destiny. I feel that this technique can help us pinpoint high and low energy phases in our lives as well as pivot points. But ultimately the content of that life depends on the choices we make in a “choose your own adventure" sort of way, and on our willpower and actions taken.

I’ve never been into predictions and feel that if we postpone taking action until the “right time,” we won’t get anywhere in life. That said, the dates in my Zodiac Release do line up with my past. This tool may be helpful for planning, and it's fascinating.

➡️ The podcaster, Chris Brennan, has a book called Hellenistic Astrology that looks at the origins of astrology. He spent years traducing ancient texts; it’s good to know where our current thinking comes from.
