Do we take water for granted?

There are so many things that we take for granted and for most of us, water is one of them. You open the faucet and out it flows. What would our lives be like if it didn't happen?

Three million of my neighbours and I are about to find out. I live in Mexico City, in a neighbourhood that mirrors what you would expect to see in the United States or Canada. The main difference are endless traffic lines, obvious cultural variations and sometimes, poorly paved streets.

The city’s water pipes are undergoing maintenance and tomorrow, the districts around me, home to 3 million people, are going to have our water supply cut off completely. The water supply is expected to be back at full capacity within seven days. An entire week.

We have water tanks that will last two days, so the building sent through a list of suggestions. I am sharing them because they made me think about my daily habits.

  • Avoid washing clothes and if it is absolutely necessary, make sure that the load is completely full to avoid water waste.
  • Keep showers as short as possible and use a bucket to capture water and keep that on hand for when water runs out.
  • Close the tap while brushing teeth (I do this already).
  • Avoid cooking food that needs lots of water.
  • Eat on paper plates to avoid washing dishes; this is admittedly not great for the planet.
  • Flush the toilet only when necessary.
  • Go on vacation if possible (yeah right).

Millions of people in Mexico do not have easy access to water and the United Nations tells us that more than a billion worldwide are affected by water scarcity. Not having H20 for a week is nothing compared to what those living in poverty stricken (or water scarce) areas face every day.

It made me think about what my life would be like if we had to ration for water on a daily basis. I would love to know where the big wins are. Keeping showers short and turning off the tap while we brush our teeth are fairly obvious and easy. I never thought of using a bucket, this could be used for hand-washing clothes. We can also buy clothes from brands that use less water in production.

Cooking with less water involves what we use in the kitchen as well as the water consumed during the production process. If we are grilling meat, we would think about how much water the cows drink, how much water irrigates the cow's food supply, and the amount of water consumed as part of the factory process. They say that one hamburger patty equals 26 showers! (

Paper Plates vs Dishwasher ???

I have been curious about this for a long time and I don't know what the answer is. What is better for the environment in the long run: to wash dishes or to use paper plates? I suppose it depends on the amount of water and other resources needed to produce paper plates and then to recycle them vs water used in dish washing.

What else can we do to consume less water on a daily basis? Please leave your ideas in the comment box below! And thank you for reading Diary of a Psychic Healer  =)

Astrology: Can We Rewrite The Stars?

Three years ago I went back to London for a summer and signed up for class at my psychic school. The main reason for the trip was two months of angel reading classes, taking the advanced level. To make the most of the trip, I signed up for half a dozen classes, including Psychic Astrology with Demian Allan, who uses a "building-blocks" approach to teaching astrology. That was when astrology started to click for me.

One of the distinctive things about Demian's class is how he has students walk on a wheel of the Zodiac, feeling its energy. It sounds crazy, but if we activate our intuition we can see what Leo, Aquarius or Aries feel like. This helps put astrology transits into perspective because we feel the energy and know it's not mental. In one of my favorite exercises we brought down the Moon's energy to awaken our intuition as well as our sense of empathy.

We also see how character traits that annoy us are often part of our shadow. The clashes we have with others have little to do with their personalities, and everything to do with our natal placements.

Can We Rewrite The Stars?

Later that summer, I signed up for Demian's Astrology & Magic workshop where he taught us how to download the energy of the signs and planets with guided meditations. Since then I have gone deeper with astrology, including the planets and signs in healing sessions, and using the natal chart as a roadmap for healing.

Natal Astrology helped me focus my healing sessions in ways that I can't even describe. The past year I’ve been sharing my experiences on a friend’s astrology website.

Please click on the titles to read the posts:

1) Healing The Shadow With Crystal Therapy. Natal astrology taught me that “my shadow is someone else’s light” and that the things I dislike about myself can become strengths. But only if I learn to accept myself for who I am, integrating the shadow.

2) Chakras, Energy Healing & Planetary Magic We can integrate our shadow by downloading planetary energies (see meditation below), but first, ground yourself by activating the Earth Star Chakra, and observe your Soular Chakra. This gives us the energetic foundation to be able to channel the Zodiac.

3) A Do-It-Yourself Astrological Pharmacy There will be times when astrological transits have us feeling flustered. I have been seeing it a lot the past year in energy healing sessions, especially with clients who are feeling Pluto's transit through Capricorn. In this blog post, we look at crystals and flower remedies to help us balance that energy, though grounding yourself is essential too.

4) Heal Your Heart With The Moon. This is a personal favorite as we meet the archangels that correspond to the four Elements. The focus is on healing the Heart so that we can open up to receive. Do the guided meditation for your Element, so for example, Moon in Cancer is Water, the meditation for Water. If you’re not familiar with the zodiac signs, have a look at the Astrology Tab in the Menu Bar > The original newsletter was taken down; my meditations are on Youtube HERE

5) Bring Your Destiny to Life with Tarot. We look at the Moon's Nodes and illustrate their challenges with tarot. Jan Spiller's Astrology for the Soul first introduced me to the topic and converted me from skeptic to enthusiast. Spiller points the way to bravery and happiness through our North Node sign. What are you most uncomfortable with and how do you get past it?

6) Moon Magick: Transform Your Life with the Light of the Stars  My book, Chakra Healing & Magick, ends with a teaser for a future book on healing with magick + astrology. I am working on a class too; it includes the themes in this post.

7) Intuitive Healing, Astrology & your Aura. This looks at how planetary energies are felt in the Aura and how we can ground, heal and integrate that energy. Read this for an overview; you’ll need to apply the tools in Chapters 5 & 7 of Chakra Healing & Magick.

Harnessing The Zodiac's Energy

We can also use energy healing meditations to download qualities that we'd like to have. The timing is very important, you can learn how to choose the right time for magic rituals in this class

Below you'll find a meditation that helps us download the intuitive, transformative and powerful qualities of Scorpio; using the Moon, Mercury or Jupiter as the point of connection. The best time to do this meditation is at dawn on the day that corresponds to the planet that we're connecting with. In this case, Wednesday for Mercury or Thursday for Jupiter. This timing applies as long as the planet is in Scorpio; both are in Scorpio the rest of the month! We can repeat the meditation once a week this October to activate our intuition.

This meditation went with the newsletter email, on boosting your intuition with Scorpio energy, but you'll get the basics from the guided meditation on Youtube. Along the same lines, we can download Jupiter’s wonderful qualities by applying some dof the tools in my article titled: Spread Your Wings with Jupiter (HERE). You can practice these techniques at any time, but the effect will be strongest when Jupiter transits the signs of Sagittarius, Pisces or Cancer.

One Last Astrology Tip!

That summer I discovered a gem of a book, The Joy of the Zodiac by Amanda Starr. It is pocket-sized and describes each of the signs and planets in just enough detail for beginners to understand. For months,  I carried it with me and slowly studied the different signs. It doesn’t cover birth charts, though. You’ll find an introduction to chart reading HERE

Thank you for reading Diary of a Psychic Healer!

Making Connections In Distant Readings

I have three exciting announcements this week and I don't know where to start. This is my 500th blog post! That in itself would or could be the most exciting, but the second development is that just yesterday, I signed the lease on my very first healing room / office!

The past few years I have been renting rooms at various holistic centers, but recently I had been struggling with the logistics. Scheduling appointments can be chaotic in Mexico City, with its 20 million inhabitants, especially if you have to plan around different locations.

Five years ago I left my job to become an Energy Healer. Now I’m going back to a 'corporate' setting at WeWork, still a Healer! Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while know how good it feels =) I'm nervous and very excited. Send me good vibes for an awesome beginning!

So the next news is that I am giving Skype readings again. People often ask about distance readings and how we are able to connect with the person who is asking questions. When I attended my first psychic development workshop  in 2010, the tutor guided us through a meditation to establish rapport. We can do this in person or online.

The idea is for us to connect from the heart. I still follow this before every reading:
  • Sit in front of the person receiving the reading and ground yourself by visualizing tree roots growing out of the bottoms of your feet, into the ground. This stabilizes our energy field.
  • Visualize white light pouring down from above, clearing the space around you and surrounding you with healing energy.
  • Ask your angels to place a bubble of light around both of you, isolating your sensations from the room to avoid confusion.
  • See and feel a beam of light between your Heart Chakras. (Always remember to dissolve the beam when finished).
  • Choose a proxy, say a crystal, and keep it on the table with the intention of sending and receiving energy through it.
  • Tech Tip: In online readings we can use Instant Messenger to send a picture of the cards that we wish to discuss.
  • Ground, close and shield yourself when done.

Making The Reading Skype-Friendly

In Skype readings we begin with this. Then I ask the sitter to close her eyes and picture a color while I shuffle the cards - this helps me tune into her energy. When the cards are shuffled, I divide them in three stacks and let them choose the order (unbeknownst to her).

During the opening meditation we create a circle of energy that contains us both, much like distant healing. I gave my first reading today after a 3 month hiatus and the connection was amazing.

And One for the Road!

Last month I took my Chakra Healing & Magick book offline; it is back with new healing tools. The Solar Plexus session was revised to reflect insights from recent Energy Healing sessions. Those of you who purchased the Kindle book can update it manually in your Amazon accountAnd thank you for reading Diary of a Psychic Healer!

Exploring the 12 (or 13) Chakra System

When I was a healing student, circa 2011, we spent lots of time connecting with the Chakras and looking at how they influence our lives. Many of us are familiar with the seven chakra system, beginning with the Root Chakra at the base of the spine and working our way up the Crown Chakra.

In this scheme, the Heart Chakra is our center, with three chakras below and three above it. The ones found below the Heart Chakra are the Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus. In my book, Chakra Healing & Magick, I refer to these as manifesting chakras because their energy relates to how present we are in the world, and if we are able to take an idea and see it to fruition. The three Chakras above the Heart can be viewed as metaphysical in nature, taking our attention beyond the physical realm through the Throat, Brow and Crown where we experience clairaudience, clairvoyance and intuition.

Generally, we would begin with chakra meditations and healing activities to activate these seven energy centers. We can do this by meditating, practicing Reiki, yoga or other healing modalities.

"Waking Up" Your Chakras

We also have Chakras directly over our heads in the Aura and one beneath our feet, connecting us to Mother Earth. The latter is called the Earth Star Chakra. These are transpersonal, taking our awareness beyond our physical selves and identity. The Earth Star is one of the reasons we enjoy nature, making it possible for us to feel the energy in the trees, plants and flowers!

Ideally we would work with one Chakra group at a time, going up the consciousness ladder from the Root to Crown. I spent several years on the first nine Chakras before moving onto those above the head, which can be seen as transpersonal because they make it possible us to tap into the collective consciousness and our soul's plan. The more we activate the Chakras numbered 8-13, the easier it is for us to channel compassion and creative power.

The 12 (or 13) Chakra System

Below you will find a list of the Chakras along with my experience of them, starting with the Unity Chakra at the very top of the Aura, to the Earth Star Chakra below our feet. Work your way up from the bottom, focusing on grounding and on the chakras below the Heart.

The Transpersonal Chakras are in pink;

    • Unity Chakra: This one makes it possible for us to see ourselves as one with the rest of humanity, with nature and with Source. As far as I can tell, it's about the collective, and it makes it possible for us to have empathy for all beings on Earth. It connects us with 'all that is' or exists in every dimension. We can connect with the Unity Chakra by meditating on the energy of infinite compassion and letting it flow through us. I perceive it as a soft gold light that sits on top of the Aura. Whether we can fully activate it is up for debate. It is oneness and nothingness
    • Stellar Gateway: I'm not entirely sure about this one, and it sounds like science fiction, but the Stellar Gateway taps into the Universe's energy. Is this a Chakra or a doorway, or both? We receive light from all of the stars in the universe through this gateway - as much as we can handle based our seven main chakras. 2021 Update: My gut feeling is that the Stellar Gateway relates to your Higher Self, and that it is equipped to receive lots of light from the Divine Feminine/Masculine  šŸ¤šŸ¤šŸ¤
    • Soular (Soul Star) Chakra: This one references our Solar System as well as the Soul. This is where I focus on when I am reading someone's Natal Astrology Chart or focusing on major issues that could be seen as Karma. It helps us tap into past lives for healing and to awaken inner gifts. I tend to see it as a shining light over my head. Sometimes a moon.
    • Causal Chakra* I see and feel this as a Selenite circle or hoop near the Crown Chakra. Like all of the transpersonal Chakras, it begins to awaken naturally when we bring light down from above in energy healing meditations. It makes it easier for us to receive messages from angels and universal light from above. My feeling is that the Causal Chakra is not stationary, creating a halo effect when active. It acts as a light switch between the Unity, Stellar and Soular Chakras, and the Crown. It strengthens our connection with the archangels.

Here is a summary of the seven main chakras as well as two transpersonal chakras. In my student Healer days I focused almost exclusively on healing the seven main chakras; they are covered in both of my energy healing books.

The Transpersonal Chakras awaken on their own when we channel energy healing. I’d start with the seven main chakras. You’ll find a basic chakra meditation HERE

    • The Crown: Connection to Source, your Soul & Intuition.
    • The Brow: Thought, belief, logic, imagination, ideas.
    • The Throat:  Communication skills, self-expression.
    • The Higher Heart Chakra: Compassion and unconditional love. This chakra funnels energy from a deeper level of being, bringing our intention and soul purpose to life. We can ground ourselves from this energy center, which then makes it easier for us to channel lots of healing. Activate your Higher Heart Chakra.
    • The Heart: Self-love, love in relationships, abundance.
    • The Solar Plexus: Confidence, joy, power, miracles.
    • The Sacral Chakra:  Creativity, appetite for life, passion.
    • The Root Chakra:  Roots, security, belonging.
    • Earth Star Chakra: Our connection with Nature. Accessing this Chakra gives us deep enough grounding so that we can tap into the rest . Here is an Earth Star Meditation

Back To The Basics

Waking up the Chakras is a lot of fun, especially when you start to access the transpersonal energy centers. This is when meditation becomes an actual adventure. But before we flex the non-physical Chakras that take our consciousness out into the Universe (and potentially beyond!) we have to ground ourselves 100%

Think of a tree and how deep its roots have to be for it to stand tall without blowing over. Our energy works the same way, regardless of the type of healing that we practice. It is vital to develop a grounding practice before flexing any of the Chakras above the Heart.

Finding Our True Center...

So this dawned on me last week. When we start thinking of 13 Chakras instead of seven, the Heart is no longer the bridge between the physical realm and the non-physical. The Throat Chakra is our energy center when we consider our energy body (or Aura). This was a pleasant surprise because the last year I have been attending a yoga class that focuses on sound and music as tools for self-healing and consciousness boosting. In class we tend to activate healing energy by singing mantras, but also the occasional pop or dance song.

šŸ«¶šŸ» Read my books below for an intro to energy healing and intuition. Please note, they lay the foundations but my books do NOT include the transpersonal chakras šŸ¤

Reiki hugs,

Regina

Does eating meat make us less intuitive?

Last month I went on a yoga retreat in tiny resort called Ollinyotl, Mexico. The place is amazing, surrounded by mountains that give off a constant vibe. We were in the middle of nowhere, with no internet and hardly any phone reception.

I am on-again-off-again with yoga, and sadly, I sprained my neck a few days before the retreat so I missed most of the yoga sessions and spent time in nature instead. The teachers were super kind and added a restorative yoga class.

Yoga Nidra was a nice surprise too: a guided meditation that puts us in a deep sleep. I'm sure I went somewhere else entirely!

Ollinyotl means "Movement from the Heart" in the Nahuatl language.

The yoga-psychology part of the retreat was amazing. We learned tools to raise our physical vibration so that it is easier to connect with our spirit. The goal was to reach Sattvic mode (more on that later), so for example, we woke up at 6:30 AM for breathing exercises, followed a strictly vegetarian diet for three days, and skipped coffee and black tea. Skipping coffee was the hardest part for me. In 2016 I tried being a weekday vegetarian for 6 months and I'm thinking of going back. Not for intuitive reasons, but because it feels good and I like veggies.

Back to Square 1

Does eating meat make us less intuitive or spiritual? I'd be tempted to say NO. Less rational YES, because the farmed food industry has terrible consequences on the planet. If we are aware of the environmental damage, continuing to eat animal products is bonkers (See Here).

This is the main reason why I attempted to become a weekday vegetarian. At the time I felt good physically, but I didn't think it had any effect on my intuitive readings. I said as much in my latest book, Chakra Healing & Magick, though in hindsight, I was able to write it in a very short time. Maybe the diet let the insights flow...

Does it make us less spiritual?

Part of me feels that we only eat factory-raised animals because we never see the way they are kept in the run-up to being killed. Once you've watched videos of cows hooked up to machines that milk them, it is easy to become disgusted and switch to almond milk or soy. But this is related to empathy and compassion, which are human traits. So no, I don't think skipping meat is spiritual - rather, it is an emotional response that is 100% human.

With all this, I still eat meat and I love burgers, barbecue and some Lebanese dishes that would be impossible to eat sans meat. But a part of me wants to cut back for a million different reasons, and the easiest way to do it, I think, is to become mostly vegetarian so that when you do eat meat, it's free-range animals. The fact that you can have a steak or fish on weekends makes it easier to go without on weekdays. Below you'll find a clip from a Ted Talk that I like: Why I'm a weekday vegetarian, by Graham Hill.

And Some Exciting News!

My Chakra Healing & Magick book is getting an update - the Kindle book will be offline for a few weeks. The revised paperback is already on Amazon. I made a few changes: rewriting my intro to the Solar Plexus Chakra to reflect the insights I have had in healing sessions lately, and swapping out one of the affirmations that I had included in the section on healing with mandalas and color. We also have a new grounding visualisation in Chapter 1 that will be easier to practice - with flashes of red, to activate the Root Chakra.

Those are the updates! For those of you who already have the paperback, I will post them on the blog soon. If you have the Kindle version you'll be able to download the updated file.

Reiki hugs!
