The Liberating Power of the Female Buddha (Book Review)

Last year I found a book called  TARA: the Liberating Power of the Female Buddha, by Dr Rachael Wooten.   The author is a depth psychologist and Tara devotee. It had been on my desk for months. Whenever I'd walk by I'd think to myself, I need to sit down and meditate. Green Tara has such a cool vibe but her energy felt distant somehow. I finally started reading it again this week after meeting up with a friend. She had been connecting with Tara too 😅 Tara is a powerful female Buddha - known as Wisdom Moon in her early incarnations. Wisdom Moon is said to have taken on the challenge of becoming enlightened. At the time, the common belief was that only men could become enlightened (haha). What it means to be enlightened is a separate topic, but if it includes clarity, compassion and having a bigger picture view of life - there is no reason why men and women couldn't both become enlightened.  The name Tara translates as Star. The idea is that the goddess Tara conn...

Songs To Manifest From the Heart

The past year I have been attending a yoga class where we sing mantras and sometimes dance songs. It is called Naam Yoga; I love that it puts me in a fantastic mood. One of my favourites is a mantra called Sacred Aum, by Dr Joseph Michael Levry. Listen to the clip here.  Some call Aum the sound of creation. This sound exists in several spiritual traditions: Amen in Christianity, OM in Hinduism and Aum in Kabbalah (one of the 72 Names of God from the Exodus). I love listening to music, but I didn't understand how it went with mantras until I came across Aum  again last week while reading Wayne Dyer's book,  Manifest Your Destiny .  In the book, Dyer walks us through nine principles that shift our worldview to one that is compassionate, collaborative and loving towards the people that we encounter. From this place of respect - where we genuinely listen to understand instead of listening to reply - he recommends meditations to manifest our heart's d...

Affirmations To Unblock Your Spiritual Vision

A course in miracles talks about how we see the past, when we see something new. As an eternal student, I try to remind myself that what I learned in other classes doesn’t always apply to new concepts. But it can be really hard to apply that, and sometimes my own ego get’s in the way (wanting to be right lol) - and not feeling like a newbie.  But back to the concept, why do we see the past? In the first place - I guess on a psychological level, we look for reference points.  My go-to mantra is: Forget what you know.  For me, mantras and affirmations serve a similar purpose. The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying tells us that mantras are a shield to keep your conscious mind from drifting off into unconscious territory LOL.   Why Would One See The Past?  So for example, if we went for lunch and were introduced to an athlete, instead of viewing that new acquaintance as someone in their own right, we may project the feelings that we had ab...

Dive Into The Ocean of Your Thoughts

I have  been meditating for six years but I didn’t know what B uddhist meditations were about until recently . And even though admitting this makes me feel incredibly foolish, I thought I would share my findings in case you have been reading this blog for years and are equally clueless abou t meditation , beyond contacting angels, which we all love =) T here are different kinds of meditation and the one I have practiced all along is focused on connecting with my intuition, chatting with my angels and asking fo r guidance . It has been wonderful , but it can also take you away from the real world, instead of bringing you to a place where you can feel peace in the moment. Then last month , I walked into a shop and a bright yellow book caught my eye. It had a mandala on the cover. The co lor dr ew me in even though the title was a bit of a downer: The Tibetan Book of Living & Dying , by Sogyal Rimpoche .   I was drawn in by the themes of h...

The Reiki Dance: Bringing Beauty Into Healing

Tomorrow is the last day of my Reiki Master training! It started six weeks ago and I have been through some major ups and downs since then. One big down and lots of ups really. A couple weeks ago someone suggested that I write about the difference between energy healing and Reiki, and I promise I will get around to it. I think that would require looking at the question from a couple different perspectives. I have experienced Reiki and Energy Healing as a student. Let's start with the similarities. Reiki is described as universal spiritual energy. It is channeled through a reiki healer and they can give themselves healing or give someone else healing. The same happens with energy healing though HOW you go about channeling that energy changes. I also think Reiki has a different flavour or vibration from the energy channeled by energy healers. I wouldn't say one is better, it depends on your taste and what resonates with you. Moving onto how we channel the energy... In en...
