What is Your Spiritual Path?

Every now and then I do Interactive Tarot Readings on my Diary of a Psychic Healer Facebook Page. It is a fun and easy way for everyone to receive guidance. We meditate on a question and then choose three icons to receive a personalized message. The theme this week was evolution on our spiritual path!

Please look at the picture below and choose three icons to represent Past, Present and Future where spirituality and consciousness are concerned. The cards were drawn for some of my favourite decks.

Choose Three Icons And
Scroll Down for the Meanings!

Wizards Tarot by Corrine Kenner. Today's card is the Two of Cups. In this deck we see a young boy and a young girl drinking from silver goblets. The youthful looks and innocence stand out; this card is about a pure heart that just wants to connect with others through the spiritual realm. Everything is an adventure and part of a growth spurt. It's a Garden of Eden stage, one that we should enjoy as long as it lasts. Note: Click here for my review of the Wizard's Tarot deck!

Ascended Masters by Doreen Virtue. The card I pulled today is a Twin Flame card, but I'm going to read it in a way that might surprise you. I read a theory recently where our Twin Flame is really our Higher Self, that wiser part of our soul that knows who we are and what we are here to experience. If you chose this deck, it may be time to connect with your Higher Self. There is a great book by Sanaya Roman called Spiritual Growth that can help you do just that. Next January I'm starting a free study group so we can read it together, please drop by my Diary of a Psychic Healer FB Page for details.

Gaia Oracle by Toni C. Salermo. Today I pulled a card about wisdom, knowledge and spiritual understanding being aligned with Mother Earth. Take some time to ground yourself, meditate with Nature and let the plant, animal and crystal kingdoms share their secrets with you. Let us know how it goes!

Chrysalis Tarot by Toney Brooks. The card I pulled is about disillusionment on the spiritual path and my intuition tells me it's a natural part of the process. As we shed false beliefs, we are sometimes left with a hint of sadness Trust that the Universe will fill that space with a Truth that is closer to your heart and soul. You don't need a safety blanket. Take some time to meditate and feel yourself loved by "All that Is". The angels can also help us with this.

Mythic Tarot by Julia Sharman Burke. Today's card is the Three of Cups, a card about celebration, joy and social gatherings. This tells me that sharing your spiritual faith with others can bring you much joy, whether it's Christmas, Hanukkah or the Winter Solstice that warms your heart this December. It's all about community and connection.

Miracles Now by Gabby Bernstein. Today I have energy healing in the cards, as Gabby Bernstein's deck tells us that we can release ancient pain by allowing ourselves to feel it. Take a trip down memory lane, let yourself feel any emotions that may have been buried and consciously let them go. The focus is on healing with compassion.

Archangel Michael by Doreen Virtue. The card I pulled was about angelic protection and working with the angels to build our sense of trust and confidence on both physical and material levels. Though all of the cards in this deck have an angelic twist, this one encourages us to reach out to our angels, meditate with them and get to know their energies. The more familiar we are, the safer and cozier we will feel!

Angel Tarot by Doreen Virtue. Today we have the Knight of Fire! We see a  knight on horseback, ready to charge into battle. He represents our Higher or Spiritual Self, while the horse represents our human doubts and fears. This card encourages us to see our ego for what it is: a self-defense and protection mechanism, so that we can start to move beyond it when necessary. You may enjoy reading Eckhart Tolle's book A New Earth, one of my faves on this subject!

Archangel Deck by Stewart Pearce. Today's message is about Grace and how we can receive more of it in our lives. As the holidays are coming up soon, let’s think about how we can channel the quality of Grace in all of our interactions, especially where giving and receiving is concerned. Follow this link for a few ideas!

Guardian Angel Tarot Cards

The last thing I need is a new deck of cards, but that didn't stop me from walking into Barnes & Noble last week and leaving with a brand new set of Guardian Angel Tarot Cards. They are amazing, I have no regrets! My sister asked if they were different from the others I have. Yes and no, but mostly yes. The deck is based on the standard structure and themes of  tarot, with 21 major arcana cards to illustrate big life changes and four suits of element cards to guide us through the details of everyday life. What I love most about the Guardian Angel Tarot, by Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine, is that the messages and the images are peaceful, angelic, and obvious so that the point is clear. My grandmother would love this deck, when others would might raise eyebrows. They are that gentle.

I also like the way they've translated the Suits of Pentacles, Wands, Air and Swords into what they represent in our lives: Abundance, Action, Thought and Emotions. All of the cards are illustrated in such a way to make them obvious and less prone to misinterpretation, especially by newbies when it comes to tarot reading. A great example is the very first card in any tarot deck: The Fool. In traditional tarot, the Fool shows a young boy walking off a cliff, his trusty dog following him and alerting him to the potential danger of a big fall. The kid however, is following his passions with so much enthusiasm that he hasn't a care in the world. The card can usually be interpreted to say that a leap of faith is required at the moment, and the dog is the guardian who is there to make sure we don't commit a great folly (so take a leap!).

In the Guardian Angel tarot, again we have a young boy near a cliff, only he isn't jumping off it. Instead, he lets a butterfly take flight and his guardian angel is right behind him, making sure he is safe and supported. The message is the same though it also reminds us to rely on our angels. It's gorgeous, you'll love it!

Here is a little reading that I gave myself with the Guardian Angel Tarot
  • Helper of Abundance: Although I have lots to do, it's important to get organised. Once the planning phase is complete, get to work! This is especially helpful right now as I have tons of ideas and I should prioritize. Traditionally the Knight of Pentacles.
  • Guardian of Thought: I may be called on to be a spokesperson for a cause close to my heart. Finding a mentor will help catapult my plans too. To me, this card is about strategizing and focusing my efforts where they will have the strongest influence. I need to give this some more thought, especially as opportunities arise.
  • Messenger of Action: Something exciting in comes to pass in my career. I'll be excited to learn and grow, even if it also brings nervous energy. This card is often about responding to a request, a suggestion or a new opportunity that presents itself. The messenger cards also tell us that we'll get to cut our teeth on a new endevour, possibly requiring a new but exciting skill set!

This deck is lovely and I'm still getting to know it right now. I'll be practicing with free mini readings over the next few weeks to familiarize myself with the cards and their messages.

Constant Craving by Doreen Virtue (A Book Review)

On January 3rd, I started an informal Sugar Detox. It was going to last all month, but I cut it short after 21 days when this beautiful tempura ice cream landed on the table at Sunday Brunch. That's not bad, I'm proud of how far I have come. My goal was not about weight loss (if anything, I think my waistline resents all of the unsweetened peanut butter I had for dessert), but to be more aware of the sugar in processed foods. Mission accomplished! My sweet tooth has also been curbed, and that means a lot. The most dramatic change has been in how I take my cappuccinos, no sugar! And the fact that I'm mostly OK with fruit for dessert. It's also been three weeks since I munched on processed cereal bars. Instead I've had tons of veggies, more veggies and unsweetened peanut or macadamia butter. Yummy!

I also read a fantastic book by Doreen Virtue: Constant Craving. The food we eat fills our tummy but it often satisfies an emotional need. Especially when we tend to crave certain types of foods and not others. The ones I'm most drawn to paint an interesting picture of my personality. Here is what I discovered:

  • Spice up your life! If we're constantly craving hot sauce and spicy food, it might be excitement that we are after. Do I put hot sauce on everything because I'm bored, or because I'm from Mexico? Tough call. I might eat more spicy foods that most of my countrymen, and often I'll go looking for crunchy snacks just so that I can cover them with chilli powder. My favorite is cucumbers with lime and chili powder but potato chips work just as well.
  • Peanuts and Peanut Butter: This is about fun! Snickers and Reese's are my favorite chocolate bars. Barely any chocolate and lots of peanut. It also dawned on me that I am happy in jobs with a high fun factor. Other business school graduates look for high stakes positions and intellectual challenges. For me it's about fun. My favorite role was pribably sports and movie marketing at a cola company. Followed by product launches and advertising, which were both creative. I ended up leaving both of these jobs when the fun, creative side dried up. No fun, no joy.
  • Crunchy Snacks:  Stress buster! My jaw is often tense, and in her book Doreen tells us that crunchy snacks help us release that tension. The only thing that has made it go away for longer periods of time is acupuncture.
  • Salty Foods:  Another stress buster, if my memory is correct.

This book is a fantastic read for healers. I would recommend it to therapists as well, you can ask your clients a few  questions to get an idea of what they're looking for on a subconscious level. It was written for personal use, healing, and to analyze our cravings.

I give it Five Stars!

The Moon in The Angel Tarot

It's been a week since I posted on this blog. Things are pretty quiet. I'm on holiday in Mexico and today I am taking a break from the hot Acapulco sun. I am not used to these sunny days anymore! Four years in London will do that to you! Our downstairs neighbours gave us their wireless password and here I am.

My last post was about feeling restless and nervous, like I didn't know what comes next. Yesterday I was playing with my favourite Angel Tarot Cards and The Moon came up. I hadn't actually read the description in the booklet, and yesterday I did. It talks about periods of anxiety and how those feelings can stem from the subconscious or from our intuition. It doesn't mean something bad is going to happen - rather that our intuitive self begins to sense changes before we are consciously aware of them, and that sense of change and unknowingness leads to a little anxiety and restlessness. The advice is 'sit tight' and wait it out. The tide is turning but there is nothing to be afraid of ...

Archangel Haniel is associated with The Moon and with intuition, psychic abilities with other aspects that are linked with our feminine side. We can ask her for help tuning into those feelings of anxiety or restlessness, so that we can understand and decipher them. We can also ask for peace and quiet until we have a more complete understanding of what is going on.

Shamanic Sound Healing

I had an amazing time today! The Healing Forum organised a sound healing and shamanic journeying session to open heart chakras and channel healing. The evening was run by Patricia White Buffalo of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, an amazing woman. This shamanic thing was new for me so my description might be a bit off. We were supposed to connect with the five elements and with spirit, as the Native American tribes would have done back in the day. By connecting to the earth and feeling spirit in and around us, we bring a taste of heaven to earth. And how do you go about connecting? You dance :-)

We started with the Root Chakra, at the base of the spine. This Chakra is our connection to the earth and the sustenance it can give us. Before humanity went urban and cybernetic, we were a lot more in tune with our Root Chakras and with the Earth. A strong Root Chakra will make it easier for you to enjoy life in high definition because it grounds you in the moment. This was the most fun of all the Chakra dances too. We were in a gallery near Shoreditch in East London, not the most nature based place in London (it is the hipster part of town, cool but not shamanic lol)

We got up to dance on the concrete floor and were led to stomp out feet as if we were dancing around a campfire. It was loads of fun and I imagined myself kicking up a dirt storm around me lol. Then when that was done we moved onto the Sacral Chakra, which had a hoola hoop dance to it. Patricia told us to imagine we were painting the room orange with each swoosh (how does that work, exactly? Imagine a paint brush between your legs haha). The Solar Plexus dance reminded me of the "Lets Twist Again" song - oh and each of these had its own tune too.

Finally we made it to the Heart Chakra. The song played here was a Hawaiian luau. We danced about and visualized Hawaii. All along I kept spotting my grey converse and they threw me off lol, but it was still good fun. When it was time to awaken the Throat Chakra we listened to italian opera and sang along at full volume (though thankfully the song was louder than our voices) and for the life of me, I can't remember what we did for the Brow Chakra. I think I did my own thing and visualized the Tibetan Reiki Symbol in my forehead. The Crown Chakra dance was about letting the light in and it had very little movement. Lots of soaking in. All in all really cool.

By then we had had a really good shake and on came the trance music. Intense but still fun. i haven't listened to trance music since I was in university. Just when I thought I was tired, the music slowed down and we settled into out shamanic journey position. That was pretty amazing too, similar to some of the spirit guide meditations. I had a wolf and a horse as a power animal. It was pretty cool over all, the image that came to mind was the Page of Swords from Doreen Virtue's angel tarot deck, a card that features a young warrior surrounded by her power animals.

Healing Ancestral Lines with Mediumship and Reiki

A couple weeks ago I was feeling fearful about my future. The thing with fear is it is completely irrational. Some risks are meant to give us the jitters but if it's calculated risk, I think you make the decision and go for it. Don't look back. That is what I did when I decided to go part-time in September and then to leave my job at the end of January.

I also had a specific plan and it is on track:
  • Publish my book on Self-Healing and Cancer. The writing, revising and editing are done! The cover design and pictures are in process. Next week I'll start on the layout design and then I am sending it off to Amazon to Kindle publish. =)
  • I am going home to Mexico for 2 months in the summer to start writing book #2 and to promote this first one, which should help because I won't have to pay rent for a couple months.
  • In the meantime I have one-off Reiki Sessions, Angel Readings and my savings to pay the bills. In August I might take a part-time job or a healing job and I feel good about that.
My mind tells me everything is going well and I kept trying to visualize success and go for it. Why was I feeling this irrational fear? I made a resolution to meditate on it and heal any traces of fear and worry from my system (and my solar plexus). The question was: where is that fear coming from? My dad kept popping into my mind but I could not figure out what that meant. I thought it might have something to do with wanting to live up to his expectations but that was not it. I was puzzled.

As luck would have it I went for a jog in the park and found myself outside a bookstore. On a whim I went in and found a lovely deck of cards: Doreen Virtue's Angel Therapy Deck. It was exactly what I needed. I sat in the park and pulled two angel cards:

  • Vacuum Away Your Fears: Essentially this card suggested that I ask Archangel Michael to vacuum any fears from my solar plexus and take them away so that I wouldn't feel anxious. Archangel Michael could then step in to heal the solar plexus, make it strong again and help me feel confident. I also like to give myself Reiki when I ask for healing. Gives it a boost!
  • Parents:  Ahh, this card pointed back to my dad. The picture shows a man and woman sitting on a log, playing the guitar and singing. My eyes kept going to the "dad" in the picture and I felt like my dad (who passed away 10 yrs ago) was trying to send me a message. I asked my angels to tell me what this card meant and what I got was a visual of my dad being very fearful and anxious about taking financial risks. Hmmm, it rang a bell.

I picked up the booklet and read the description for this card. One of the things it mentioned is how children can sometimes absorb their parents beliefs, feelings and attitudes. As a highly sensitive kid I learned to be anxious and risk-averse from my dad. He was not completely risk averse but I do think worrying about that things might go wrong undermined his willingness to take risks. I think he was coming to me now because he wanted to let me know that I was feeling his fears, not mine. Funny thing is I am not risk averse: I go for it, but I'm a nervous wreck LOL. But then it works out in the end.

It was time to let go of those fears. This made tons of sense to me. The few months I always pulled the same card in the Angel Tarot when I asked about this new adventure: The Knight of Fire. The card shows a Knight on horseback, the horse looks like it's taking a few steps back and the knight pushes it forward. I take the horse to be the nervousness we feel when we're taking risks. The knight is our resolution to persevere and win. It tells me it's time to tame my subconscious and lead with confidence. That was easier to do once I was able to pinpoint the source of my fears and heal them.
